What minor laws would you introduce?

lighthearted

If you were put in charge of Everything for a few weeks, what minor laws would you introduce? I'm thinking things that would be really easy to implement, and would make people's lives easier.

I would make it the law that manufacturers of electronic devices had to indicate on the outside of the product which batteries it needs (type and how many). I'm fed up of having to take the battery cover off, check what's in there, and then either put the cover back on (fiddling with a tiny screwdriver), or leave it off somewhere (to inevitably lose it) until I can get new batteries for the thing.

While they're at it, they can make the cover permanently attached to the device so it doesn't get lost. But not attached in a way that makes it impossible to reach the batteries.

All hen and stag parties confined to one island keeping the dross away from decent people wanting a piss head free flight and holiday

@Partyandbullshit only likes wealthy people then?

Huh?

Wishawisha · 03/05/2023 03:35

VAT of 200% added to fake grass / AstroTurf in anywhere but a sports facility.

Wishawisha · 03/05/2023 03:38

Oh also I’d regulate social media influencers (or bump up ASA and give them actual powers to put in place big fines or remove people from social media after an offence - not declaring adverts, gifts etc).

Mostar · 03/05/2023 06:02

Clementineorsatsuma · 03/05/2023 02:15

You.... you do know that it's automatic, don't you...? That the author doesn't type that out?

Yeah, but you can change it so you don't have to sound like you're bragging about your expensive phone and/or come across as some corporate whore fanboy who camps outside the Apple store to be first in line to offer up all their money for the latest soon-to-be obsolete model. And if you do type it in yourself, the fine doubles.

Potential MPs have to do at least a year working in either education or the NHS, preferably while living in social housing.

In a similar vein, 50% of MPs to be drafted in a similar way to jury service.

All NHS management to have to spend a week working on the wards / operating theatre each year.

Ban on leafblowers - only leaf vacuums allowed.
Total ban on jet skis.

I think if we had dog-parks that dog owners had to pay for/dog licences it would encourage a much more responsible type of dog owner

Dog licences are compulsory here in Australia, with on-lead the default and enforced by fines. Only off-lead where signs say you can, which is not much I can tell you. Where I am there are off-lead areas but these are shared with sports which have priority, with fines for canine intrusions. No way would a council set aside space solely for dogs and we rather think we've paid for the shared use via our very high rates and the licence fee.

I mention this as although lots of similar suggestions come up on MN threads, I live the reality of it, and we have more space. Dog licence £44 pa.

Joystir59 · 03/05/2023 06:46

All cyclists banned from the roads. Obviously.

Nw22 · 03/05/2023 07:00

@Booklover40 and all the people who irrationally hate dogs are nice?

Kazzyhoward · 03/05/2023 07:05

I know not in the spirit of the thread, but I'd bring in a law banning any new laws unless and until proper enforcement was put in place so that they wouldn't be routinely ignored with no sanction/punishment for the person/organisation breaching the new law!

HaroldeVwilliam · 03/05/2023 07:27

Op that's excellent. Also every single business has to show it's prices up front whether that's a shop display window or business eg dancer school.

Definitely one for dogs without designated enclosed areas where they can go off lead eg corner-store of every park can be for dogs off lead no where else and robust licences for dangerous breeds and dogs with huge Jaws.

The one I'd like to add is that in laws must be respectful towards their dils especially around the birth of a baby.
New mother's should be given extra rights to protect themselves because it's when they are under tremendously need stress, emotions /hormones etc and yet its when in laws seem to cause the most trouble.

I believe in Italy there's are laws around mils in particular interfering in marriages.

HaroldeVwilliam · 03/05/2023 07:30

@echt and.....

What's living with the reality like?
Do you hear shot dog attacks?
I think this week we be lost another child possibly third this year to dog attacks?

Smart phones and social media made illegal for under 18s. If caught the punishment falls on the parents who lose their own access to social media for a year.

All dog poo bags to be clearly stamped with the dog owners address and for it to be a mandatory duty for any found to be stuffed through the letterbox of said address.

Absolutely..we need far far tighter laws on the Internet and social media for children.

Whochangedmynamec · 03/05/2023 08:10
  1. repeal all the laws that gave allowed companies to spy on us- I did an internet search on private browser (not for a product) and another company made it very obvious they had spied on that search- unforgiveable
  2. give us back freedom to protest, and freedom of information
  3. keep iur human rights
Natsku · 03/05/2023 08:33

I like the community service for teenagers idea but I'd expand it to include MPs and millionaires.
Also CEOs can only be paid up to 20x the pay of their lowest paid employees.

When I come to power, I will outlaw all on road parking. If you don’t have a drive, you need to get rid of your car nad utilise public transport. If you park on the road, your car will be towed and you will not get it back until you provide proof of an offroad parking spot. The End.

Dispensation for London as nobody has a drive (pretty please).

Traffic lights should be set to demand only after 9 pm. Sitting alone at an otherwise empty junction while waiting for the other lights to sequence through gets very old very quickly.
No music should be heard outside the confines of the walls of the premises it is played in.
When at social gatherings there should not be any music that exceeds 75 decibels. We gather to meet up with people and connect with conversation not shout single words into their ears.
No noisy dogs. Or children who scream outside for no reason. Screaming because of danger or damage is allowed.

So much this. Going to a pub and only being able to talk to the person right next to you and then only if you shout right into their ear.
What's that all about?

beguilingeyes · 03/05/2023 08:53

Ban performance farting. Invariably men who think it's hilarious.
Abolish Rupert Murdoch and Paul Dacre.

SomersetBrie · 03/05/2023 09:46

A ban on sweet smelling vapes for teens.
In fact, all vapes should smell absolutely hideous, unless it's being used medically for someone quitting smoking where there would be no smell.

I would also put all my best scientists working on calorie free chocolate that tastes just like normal chocolate. They would then move on to pizza.

A new incentive scheme every week. This week, £100 for everyone who owns a cat.

Railway station.

😂😂😂

i know this is meant to be light-hearted and you can say whatever you want, but this is the weirdest fucking thing. I’ve never heard anyone refer to it as a railway station. Do you say ‘I’m just hopping on the railway to Devon!’ 😂

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 03/05/2023 10:31

Life sentences for those who talk on their phones held out in front of them talking into the mic.

What minor laws would you introduce?

I meant, and rather thought, I'd made clear that I was responding to the poster I'd quoted, about dog licenses and off-lead areas where I live.

Have you read the thread title?

HaroldeVwilliam · 03/05/2023 10:59

@echt

In terms of the feedback nothing really no.
The only clue is there "I'm living the reality of it" but you didn't say whether you feel its a good or bad thing.

SeaToSki · 03/05/2023 11:19

Anyone who parades down the street trying to block traffic while virtue signaling their unrealistic ideas should immediately be handcuffed to some railings outside the local council offices, so they can prothletise without bothering people who just want to get to work/school/the hospital. This should also apply to anyone who throws paint or glues themselves to something they dont own etc

Loudspeakers on phones and smart devices should be automatically disconnected in public spaces and only allowed to work when the device knows it is ‘home’. Whenever the device is not ‘at home’ it should only allow bluetooth connection to headphones. Any hacking or messing with this protocol results in the phone being instantaneously detonated

tectonicplates · 03/05/2023 12:07

Make it compulsory for all events/classes adverts to say the day of the week. For example as it’s 3rd May today, it needs to be listed as Wednesday 3rd May. I know what days of the week I’m free on and it’s so annoying having to look at the calendar each time.
