If you like musicals obviously!
I love Hamilton, followed by les mis and wicked. Also going to see jamie this year.
Hamilton with the original cast on Disney is just incredible.

I’m old school - Starlight Express is due a comeback, surely?!

Yes. Yes it is.

ladygindiva · 30/04/2023 19:03

Rocky horror. Going for the fifth time in June.

BeautifulWar · 30/04/2023 19:04

Evita, Miss Saigon (preferred it in the 90s to the revival), JCS and Les Mis.

Ooh yes, that would be good.

HippoStraw · 30/04/2023 19:05

Jesus Christ Superstar, Six and Les Mis I think.

Florissant · 30/04/2023 19:05

Jesus Christ Superstar and Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Topseyt123 · 30/04/2023 19:06

Phantom of the Opera (I lov The Music of the Night so much), Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Evita (A New Argentina is my favourite). An early favourite of mine was also Jesus Christ Superstar.

Are you me? My top 3 are Les Mis, Hamilton and Miss Saigon. Closely followed by nearly every other musical ever written.

I am definitely you :)

Those are mine, in that order. Billy Elliott is 4th.

DorritLittle · 30/04/2023 19:08

Love lots of these but my faves are my childhood ones: Annie, Sound of Music, Oliver, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (the weird original one) Joseph and JCSS.

Toucanfusingforme · 30/04/2023 19:10

Joseph. Loved from it’s first TV short version because Gary Bond was gorgeous. Love the full show now.
Thanks to my mother have a love of the songs from Guys and Dolls, South Pacific and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers etc.
My own guilty secret is Paint Your Wagon. Clint Eastwood singing. What’s not to love about that?!😁

PuggyMum · 30/04/2023 19:11

Wicked
Miss Saigon
Lion King

We watched Titanic the Musical last night. It was very good but in the same category as Les Mis.... I wouldn't need to watch again!

Also love Chicago!

Xiaoxiong · 30/04/2023 19:12

For me, in no particular order: Matilda. Guys & Dolls, singing in the rain, anything goes, west side story.

Then there are the ones I would classify as more operettas but that I absolutely adore: pirates of Penzance, mikado, sweeny Todd.

Pashazade · 30/04/2023 19:13

Lol, I think my dad's favourite is Paint Your Wagon!
Honestly I love so many, one I think is vastly underrated or you don't get to see often is Witches of Eastwick, it is brilliant.
Also Legally Blonde makes me very happy! But have to say I'd love a Starlight Express revival, long overdue I'm sure.

Toucanfusingforme · 30/04/2023 19:14

You’ve just reminded me. West Side Story and Singin’ in the Rain. Yes please.

WeAreTheHeroes · 30/04/2023 19:17

Les Mis, Evita, West Side Story

I loved the Book of Mormon when I saw that, but the other three edge it out.

gabsdot45 · 30/04/2023 19:17

I love musicals. My favorite is The Sound of Music. I just love it
After that probably Les Miserables and Phantom. I haven't seen Hamilton live but the Disney movie is amazing and I'm going to see it next year when it comes to Dublin.
I see as many as I can and love them all really

Talapia · 30/04/2023 19:18

So many! Book of Mormon, Our House, Kinky Boots, Little Shop of Horrors,,Mack and Mabel, Guys and Dolls and Billy Elliot.

Didn't really enjoy Wicked or Les Mis.

salamanderturtle · 30/04/2023 19:18

Ahh such a difficult question. Of those I’ve seen:

  • the lion king
  • phantom of the opera
  • joseph
  • les mis
Amandasummers · 30/04/2023 19:20

Blood brothers and I absolutely loved the only fools and horses musical!

Talapia · 30/04/2023 19:20

Oh and I love Grease

WorriedMillie · 30/04/2023 19:22

If I had to pick one, Blood Brothers!

cheeseisthebest · 30/04/2023 19:24

I could not stand the lion King.

Merrily We Roll Along

Stephen Sondheim was a genius songwriter, IMO, and MWRA was his greatest, but I also love Company.

I loved the revival of Spring Awakenings in the late noughties.

I really like Jason Robert Brown’s output, and his songs are beautiful, but the shows themselves can err on the side of earnest. I like a bit of individuality, a wink to the audience, a clever turn of phrase etc.

I saw Six recently and that was fab. Modern musicals are so vibrant and clever, including Hamilton and the like.

ChessieFL · 30/04/2023 19:01

Yes. Yes it is.

No. It’s shit. Like most ALW musicals.

CaptainHammer · 30/04/2023 19:37

Really hard to pick favourites but these came to mind first -
Avenue Q
Once
Little Shop of Horrors
School of Rock
