If you like musicals obviously!
I love Hamilton, followed by les mis and wicked. Also going to see jamie this year.
Hamilton with the original cast on Disney is just incredible.

Sunset Boulevard
Evita
Phantom

I have seen each at least 6 times and first saw Phantom on the BBC news when it first came out, I was 7 and wanted to go for my birthday! I saw Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman and I remember being captivated, unfortunately I feel like its dated now :-( Sunset is still my favourite and I cant choose between Glen Close and Betty Buckley as my favourite Norma Desmond!

Cabaret and Grease. Bit of an odd combination.

Les mis saw it on a school trip in early teens - was bored to death for first half hour then it gripped me and been obsessed with it since. Not a fan of alfie boe as JVJ he's too shouty

Actually hated wicked its a one song show, reluctantly went to see Jersey Boys the same day as wicked and it was miles better

Saw school of rock, singing in the rain and bat out of hell last year didn't love bat out of hell at all (songs were awesome obviously) the others were good singing in the rain is so bloody glorious

Ridiculously one of my favourites which is largely overlooked is shrek its got some brilliant songs in it. Netflix used to have a hamilton style original cast recording of it which I'd recommend - Sutton Foster was great. Saw frozen last month and I've seen lion king and id go see shrek again before either of them

Figgygal · 07/05/2023 22:28

Oh and ghost was good too

Pashazade · 07/05/2023 22:29

I've just remembered one of my actual big loves is Slipper and the Rose, totally overlooked but it has some glorious songs.

ochnanoch · 07/05/2023 23:23

I also love the Slipper and the Rose but hardly anyone seems to know it.

MyBloodyMaryneedsmoreTabasco · 07/05/2023 23:25

Wasn't Richard Chamberlain in that?? Used to be on BBC2 in the bit between Christmas and NY a lot when I was young iirc.

Thequeenofwishfulthinking · 08/05/2023 05:49

I love the Slipper and the Rose.

Pashazade · 08/05/2023 07:45

Yay I've found my people! Yes it was a regular on the tv at Christmas. You can buy it on prime now (the dvd is harder to source). Yes Richard Chamberlain being very princely and Annette Crosbie as the Fairy Godmother is wonderful. Also the same choreographer as Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. (Apparently rooftops and kitchens offer many of the same opportunities choreographically!)

Clawdy · 08/05/2023 08:09

Jesus Christ Superstar
Bat Out Of Hell
West Side Story

usernotfound0000 · 08/05/2023 08:34

I've seen lots and the only one I didn't enjoy was dirty dancing- which is a shame as I love the film but it was a bit panto for my liking. Favourites would be
Book of Mormon
Hamilton
Six
Funny girl

I realise this is quite a London-centric view, but there are so many more musicals than the few that seem to be mentioned (albeit in different orders) here. In my very humble, ‘just a punter’ view, the big shows, especially the large jukebox type musicals are really not the best musicals (and some barely musicals) by a long chalk.
Of those mentioned I’d echo Hamilton, of course, which I just love, and Come From Away.
My favourite for the moment is Standing at the Sky’s Edge which is utterly incredible both dramatically and musically. Take your teenagers to it.
Also loved Sylvia (about the suffragette) which has a slight Hamilton vibe.
