Good when I was a kid, a bit crap in recent years, awful now.

What other foods have turned to rubbish?

Things do taste a lot more chemically now. Also agree that cheese doesn't act the same anymore, wonder what they've done to it.

OceanSounds123 · 25/04/2023 17:58

Cadbury’s Crème Eggs aren’t as good as they used to be.
I do love Gold bars and they haven’t been ruined yet.

Cadbury is awful now. I really enjoy M&S chocolate and Aldi.

For the toblerone lovers- M&S mountain bars are a good replacement.

m&s chocolate generally is probably one of the better ones.

Friendofdennis · 25/04/2023 17:58

Green and blacks 37% coco milk chocolate is still lovely with a good chocolate hit

Mrsjayy · 25/04/2023 17:58

I don't think the original walnut whip has a walnut in it now and it's just called whip.

Thindog · 25/04/2023 17:59

Cadbury's anything. Especially Milk Tray. It used to have delicious hazelnut swirls with piped chocolate, and strawberry, and orange, and coffee fondant inside lovely chocolate. Now the chocolate's inferior and the chocolates are all solid. Thornton's have also gone seriously downhill with their continental selection.

Bluevelvetsofa · 25/04/2023 17:57

Walnut whips. The M&S one is so small now, that it won’t be long before the walnut is bigger than the whip part.

Moser Roth is the best affordable chocolate. Ritter is lovely, but pricy.

Didn't walnut whips used to have a walnut inside the chocolate as well as on top? Anyone remember that? And the chocolate was about ten times as thick, of course.

TheReverendBeeb · 25/04/2023 17:59

Another Twiglet mourner here.

Used to be my go to Christmas snack.

Sad times ...

Exhausteddog · 25/04/2023 17:59

Mini eggs and dairy milk are nowhere near so nice as thry used to be

PresidentWilson · 25/04/2023 18:00

Another vote for original Lucozade. I would pay a LOT for a bottle of it. Such a unique flavour that's been lost. The replacement tastes like nasty supermarket value lemonade.

I do agree Irn Bru is not as good but it is still recognisable in flavour unlike lucozade, and they did have the "decency" to bring back the old recipe for a hefty price (Xmas and birthdays only)!

Fannyinfinefettle · 25/04/2023 18:00

@Surely2023IsTheYearForMyRainbowBaby Lidl's fake ritz crackers are good too - they certainly don't last very long around here.

Do they not have them inside anymore?!😲

The outrage!

I can't remember a walnut inside just the cream/mallow .

Full fat Dr Pepper. It no longer tastes like how I remember it did in the 80's

That's because it now contains sweeteners - even the non diet versions.

Same with Pepsi and even Fentiman's gone over to adding sweeteners. They taste awful now. It's really hard to get a fizzy drink without them other than Coke and I'm not that keen on colas.

I now buy Cawston Press almost exclusively

Fannyinfinefettle · 25/04/2023 18:04

Ribena and most soft drinks. I had to prepare for a colonoscopy re and the advice is to take the prep with squash - I bought some expensive squash and it was still foul. The sweeteners just ruin it.

Lolaandbehold · 25/04/2023 18:04

I read an article in the ahem Daily Mail the other day re "What happened when I ate ultra-processed food for a month"
my goodness it was an eye opener. As one of his sources said, so much food nowadays is more accurately defined "industrially produced edible substances"

Molecule · 25/04/2023 18:05

Black Jacks and Fruit Salads. Up to a couple of years ago they transported me back to childhood, one of the few sweets that hadn’t been adulterated. Now they too have been got at and are an insipid shadow of their former selves.

Rosscameasdoody · 25/04/2023 18:06

CardinalCopia · 25/04/2023 15:05

Irn Bru and Lucozade. It wasn't broke and it didn't need fixing.

I don’t think Lucozade has ever tasted the same since they stopped putting it in glass bottles. But that might just be me !!

Ritter isn't pricey at all, I paid £1.25 for a peppermint bar, I keep it in the freezer and eat a few squares at a time. However I've never forbidden Ritter Sport for stopping making the Mocha flavour many years ago, probably 30 years ago!

Silentbarking · 25/04/2023 18:07

Milky Ways, completely ruined.

Tizer, was immense in the 90s turned rubbish in the 00s and beyond….

Tizer, there's a blast from the past! In the 70s I recall drinking cider and blackcurrant which tasted remarkably like Tizer.

This grieves me every Christmas. I used to adore them but they have been vile for years and years now.

Rose are now banned from this house. DH bough a big tin a few years ago and I couldn't believe how bad they were. No one ate them after the first taste.

They've ruined Crunchies too - not only are they teeny, but the chocolate coating is shite. Bought a pack of four last week- three are left and THAT wouldn't have happened a few years ago.

One of my friends is a massive chocoholic and always preferred the cheaper chocolate to the fancy pants ones and would have two bars a day. But even she won't touch Cadbury's now. Imagine ruining chocolate... what an absolute bastard. I'd like to meet the man who did that, fucking crime against humanity, no punishment good enough quite frankly.

Might try a flake though if it is still the same... And good to know about Aldi. And yes to watery Baileys. Aldi do a good range of Faileys though - we had a few at Christmas and liked them. Still a bit watery though.

Bedtimemode · 25/04/2023 18:10

Ribena definitely!! Dp doesn't agree with me but I swear it's all been switched to the "tooth kind" recipe since the sugar tax came in! I hate it now

Mrsjayy · 25/04/2023 18:12

Rosscameasdoody · 25/04/2023 18:06

Yeah it doesn't taste the same although I sometimes get a can of original lucozade from the £shop and it taste as close to.

MagicClawHasNoChildren · 25/04/2023 18:13

Agree that Giant Buttons still taste as they ought to. And I'd like to put a word in for Lidl's JD Gross chocolate, too - I treat myself to it every so often and it's creamy and lovely.

What I want is salt and vinegar Golden Wonder crisps to be available like they were when I was a kid. They were amazing. I miss Golden Wonder.
