Good when I was a kid, a bit crap in recent years, awful now.

What other foods have turned to rubbish?

Don’t like Cadbury anymore, bland and a bit soapy, even favourites like Buttons and Twirl, can’t eat them (had a Toblerone recently though and thought it was still pretty good).

As PP, fizzy drinks with sweeteners, especially Lucozade and when you are buying it because actually need the sugar. Especially hate the supposedly amazing natural alternative Steviol with horrible digestive side effects.

Agree Twiglets now taste burnt. Marmite nuts are great though.

Away with your gaslighting. Dairy milk used to have a lovely texture that melted in the mouth, now it just sits like a lump of candle on your tongue. Agree with a PP that Dark Milk is the only Cadbury chocolate worth the calories these days.

I’m sure I’ve read on here that the Cadbury’s Freddo are the old recipe as they are still made in Ireland.

Smoked salmon and custard doughnuts?? Was that a typo? I hope it was a typo Envy

Or a special, limited edition Christmas delicacy.

wentworthinmate · 26/04/2023 22:36

Tuc biscuits with ‘cheese’ in the middle. Hadn’t had any for years, bought them on offer and what an abomination they were! Just awful, biscuits were tasteless (seemed to be no salt on them anymore) and there was the tiniest scraping of cheese in the middle.

Too much palm oil in chocolate makes it all taste like whale semen and leaves a margarine coating on my teeth. It’s terrible what’s been done to chocolate.

That said, Lindt and Aldi own brand still get a pass. Tony’s is less greasy but still tasteless. Nestle choc doesn’t even look attractive these days - it’s like they’ve given up!

taste like whale semen

Dare I ask how you know this? 😫😂

Marks and Spencer’s dark milk chocolate is to die for, but really bloody expensive.

I miss the old Dairy Box.

JenniferBooth · 26/04/2023 23:30

I remember getting a Suchard Easter Egg as a kid about 1985 i think Peach coloured box with a Victorian or Edwardian lady on the side Or a cameo I cant remember But the chocolate was amazing as were the chocolates inside the egg. And i loved the Mackintosh Toffee and Mallow Eggs (they were the same size as a creme egg)

JenniferBooth · 26/04/2023 23:31

And Terrys Nut Cracker

Suchard was lovely but sadly bought out by Mondelez who are responsible for all chocolate now being crap.

whynotwhatknot · 26/04/2023 23:55

creme eggs when they changed the recipe it went to shit

and i loved them so

whynotwhatknot · 26/04/2023 23:58

oh i forgot all crisps

fucking baked and ruined the taste

JosieJasper · 27/04/2023 00:06

Pickled onion monster munch!! I used to love them as a kid and was so excited to buy a bag when they made a big come back but boy, was I disappointed ☹️

RoseMartha · 27/04/2023 00:24

Macvities Digestives. They taste like cardboard now.

This ^ I used to love Digestives with cheese but the last time I had some they tasted terrible.

And on the subject of cheese, I agree with those that have said it doesn't melt properly these days. I'm a Cathedral City girl and whilst I still find it tastes ok, it's rubbish for cheese on toast. Recently I couldn't get Cath City so substituted Pilgrim's Choice...that was totally vile.

LibertyLily · 27/04/2023 05:39

Tesco salt and vinegar sticks (aka chipsticks) is another that's been ruined - they used to be thicker, more crunchy and taste (surprise surprise) of salt and vinegar. Bought some for the first time in ages the other day and they were flat, greasy and tasted of not much at all.

I was never keen on the other versions so I'm reluctant to try those in the hope they'll somehow have improved.

Try Aldi's. They are a surprisingly good match with plenty of flavour.

@WickedSerious That's exactly what I thought- conceived by the same mad scientist who brought us doughnuts as burger buns Shock

Hotel chocolate - what on earth happened - were they taken over by the same people who ruined Thortons? Nothing in the chocolate world tastes as good as it used to -Maltesors are awful, kitkats. mars bars - suits me, they are easier to resist, they just taste of sugar.

Yes, I bought a box of Hotel Chocolat for my DIL at Easter and they were not great, certainly not worth the price.

Nairns do various types of oaty biscuits, you might try them? They're not all the traditional oatcakes and we like the gluten-free version in the pink pack.

My DD loved Dairy box and the nearest I found to this was Prestat Chocolates & Truffles Assortment (bought from Ocado) which were expensive but full of old fashioned soft centres. No pralines or continental fillings.

LadyEloise1 · 27/04/2023 08:32

M&S did a fabulous dark milk chocolate bar with dried raspberries.
Discontinued sadly.

Beastieboys · 27/04/2023 08:46

I think mcvities (united biscuits) have been taken over again

LadyOfTheCanyon · 27/04/2023 08:46

RHTFT but Belvoir do a blackcurrant squash without sweeteners which is near enough to Ribena to do the trick.

Co Op salt and vinegar crisps in the big bag take the roof off your mouth and are very crunchy.

Monty Bojangles truffles are pretty good, but quite spendy.

Agreed that Tony's is rank - I really don't understand the hype about it

theblackradiator · 27/04/2023 11:07

yes I agree. they still taste the same but a bit harder. I was furious when they removed the original foil and paper wrapping. I miss being able to run much thumb nail along the middle then snap the fingers apart it's just not the same without that also the original paper and foil was full recyclable this current wrapping is not. I'm that sad lol that i did try and email in to kitkat to complain but it wouldn't submit the email for some reason so I gave up.
Also toffee crisps wft have they done to them there is no 'crisp' on them anymore it's just a thin layer of toffee they used to be lovely. I reckon all these classic bars will be discontinued soon due to poor sales as people will stop buying them as theyve all gone shit. I miss topic bars too they've already been discontinued sadly.

threatmatrix · 27/04/2023 11:19

I bit into a Kit Kat out of an Easter egg and literally spat it out.
