Good when I was a kid, a bit crap in recent years, awful now.

What other foods have turned to rubbish?

I just buy cherry Tomatoes now.

Pelsall116 · 26/04/2023 18:33

Dairy box! All my faves like Hazelnut Log and Almond something or the other have gone!

poppingpea · 26/04/2023 18:40

I feel the same with chocolate etc.

Do you think this is because we all lost our taste with Covid. Der der derrrrrrrrr

Boxes of 'Weekend' sweets. Does anyone remember them? They had jellies, fudge etc... in them

Also Lidl's whole nut chocolate is awesome

Sunny D juice. I know it’s unhealthy lol but used to taste fab.

It used to taste like the weird orange drink we'd get from the vending machine in the leisure centre when we were kids.

HarrietPoole · 26/04/2023 19:01

Quality street. Miss the proper tins, the nice chocolate, and all the one that had the little cigar bands on them. Now just dull and sickly.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 26/04/2023 19:11

I still think Galaxy's pretty decent, and better than other non-premium alternatives. It's creamy, without being too much so like Lindt. I love the Counters - like Minstrels without the shell. Revels did them for years in their packets but you couldn't buy them on their own for a long time.

Last Christmas involved a disappointing tub of Roses, a disappointing tube of S&V Pringles, some disappointing boxes of liquorice allsorts and sports mixtures, and some bloody awful smoked salmon and custard donuts from Sainsbury's own range.

Proust's madeleine cakes it was not.

Smoked salmon and custard doughnuts?? Was that a typo? I hope it was a typo Envy

csigeek · 26/04/2023 19:16

Everything they’ve replaced sugar with sweetener in. I bought a bottle of regular Pepsi and that is now full of sweeteners…isn’t that just Diet Pepsi?!
gah

Grin

And from Sainsbury's, we bought some smoked salmon, and we also bought some custard donuts, and they were both crap.

Tbh they might as well have been mixed together for all the culinary pleasure they didn't give us.

AutumnCrow · 26/04/2023 19:20

All these sweeteners in drinks and food - aren't they implicated in fucking about with metabolic processes, children's behaviour, etc?

Cheese is definitely different. It no longer melts properly.

This!! I have assumed it was me failing in all my recent endeavours for a gooey melted top even with Waitrose cheddar at nearly £7 ffs!

L3andlosingit · 26/04/2023 19:31

Cadburys is almost a swear word in our house. I won’t even get the advent calendar or Easter eggs. They messed with the recipe and ruined it. I miss real Dairy Milk and real Cadburys Crème Eggs 😭

L3andlosingit · 26/04/2023 19:32

Also normal full fat normal sugar yoghurt. No, I don’t want to feed my kids low fat artificial sweetener crap. No I don’t want to give them fromage frais either. Just a regular yoghurt with normal ingredients that haven’t been f-d around with please.

ScotsBluebell · 26/04/2023 19:49

San Pellegrino. Used to be a lovely 'grown up' drink if you didn't want alcohol or were driving. Not too sweet, very tart and refreshing. Then they replaced the sugar with stevia and now it tastes far too sweet and horribly soapy. Revolting. Although I'm told there's now a 'classic' version - but I haven't tried it yet.

Aren't the multipack KitKats still in foil and paper?

No. A few months ago they started putting them in plastic wrapping that is only recyclable at the supermarket. Has definitely put a lot of people off buying them.

My sister swears that the Aldi fake Pringles taste like the old Pringles did. Might be worth a try.

Aldi fake Pringles are amazing.

If you use Doux de Montagne cheese (or Tomme de montagne which Lidl have in their French week theme) in sandwiches it’s glorious ….so oozy and melty, it’s not as strong tasting as cheddar but it’s got beautiful characteristics all of its own…..

Lidl fake wotsits and frazzles are superior to the branded ones

HarrietPoole · 26/04/2023 20:28

@AutumnCrow that's such a relief.

Retired65 · 26/04/2023 20:48

Wagon Wheels, they use to be much bigger.

They did this a couple of years ago, said it was temporary, changed back then did it again.
They're smaller too, and somehow less substantial. DH is devastated.

curlywurlylover666 · 26/04/2023 21:50

Everything which is now advertised as less sugar. Just stop bloody meddling with stuff.

2nd · 26/04/2023 21:56

Hotel chocolate - what on earth happened - were they taken over by the same people who ruined Thortons? Nothing in the chocolate world tastes as good as it used to -Maltesors are awful, kitkats. mars bars - suits me, they are easier to resist, they just taste of sugar.

Fluffmum · 26/04/2023 22:14

Smarties, original lucozade , cream eggs
