Good when I was a kid, a bit crap in recent years, awful now.

What other foods have turned to rubbish?

Orangina is not the same as it was, not in this country. But you can still get the proper stuff in France.

I’ve always hated Cadbury’s type chocolate - the only one I like are Rolos (Rowntrees) - but it’s hard to find them in London. What’s happened to them?
Can’t get them anywhere locally, can’t get them at Waterloo station etc.

Rolos have, imo, drastically changed since childhood. Hugely disappointed whenever I have them.

@thislittlebird I suppose look on the positive side …..calories and teeth benefits of not eating biscuits but I struggling with that tbh …..old school digestives were always my comfort back in the day but now I’d rather not bother waste of calories

They’re not great for sure - shit chocolate - can you still buy them where you live?

Mirabai · 25/04/2023 21:30

I don’t ever remember newsagent chocolate being nice - so I can’t really tell if they’ve changed - were they ever ok?

I've not looked for a few months but I definitely could last year.

I think it’s time we maybe should try making our own. At least we’d know exactly what ingredients were being used.

TwoMonthsOff · 25/04/2023 21:51

@Silentbarking hmmm given my baking skills that’s not an option I’m sure even the mice and birds wouldnt eat them 🤣 I’d probably be reported for cruelty

😁 it might cull the rat population though!

Frazzles no longer give you that bacony hit and seem all puffy.
@tobee Aldi snackrite bacon rashers are pretty good and they aren’t puffy at all. I’ve had a few bags where someone’s been heavy handed with the flavouring and they reminded me of my childhood Frazzles.

I posted about Rolos earlier in the thread. They are really horrible now. My local shop sells them and Home Bargains does too.

Oh I thought it was just because cheese had changed. You're telling me my crackers and cheese are DOUBLY betraying me now? 😭

TwoMonthsOff · 25/04/2023 23:07

@Tarkan
yes I forgot cream crackers used to be delicious in an underwhelming way, the same way that mozzarella cheese is, if you see what I mean? Like not lots of flavour but lovely it isn’t own way, now they are damp and stale tasting like they have been left in a tin for months, and really pale lie they needed more oven time, there’s nice bland which is what’s required for tasty toppings but their texture is all wrong….I’m always on the hunt for nice crackers if anyone can recommend

churley · 25/04/2023 23:09

Anything with chocolate in sadly. I had some Italian chocolate recently that was made as actual chocolate used to be. Mmmm I really miss nice chocolate!

Bought a tub of Roses in the local British shop at Christmas. $25, which is what, about 20 quid? They were awful! My husband ended up taking them to work.

What!!! That was meant to say thank you @SoDamnObvious !!!!

Sorry

salsmum · 26/04/2023 01:51

Cheese puffs from M&S used to be really cheesy and a nice size now they're tiny and not very cheesy at all. Marshmallows don't have nice powder on anymore either. 🤦‍♀️

fryanddry · 26/04/2023 01:53

givemecoffeenow · 25/04/2023 15:30

Also is it just me or is cheese just not the same anymore?

its not just you! having a cheese toastie isn't the same for me any more its very bland and doesn't melt the same

fryanddry · 26/04/2023 01:58

most fruits do not taste the same anymore
ive tried from different super markets, all underwhelming,
I have a good taste and smell memory
the textures and flavours of fruits are very different to 20 years ago and not in a good way

Newestname002 · 26/04/2023 02:09

@euff

I'm a chocoholic and used to find it very hard to resist. You can put them in front of me and most of them just don't have that pull on me now.

Try Waitrose No.1 single origin chocolates. Utterly delicious. I tend to buy the dark chocolate starting at 65% cocoa but they have the milder milk versions too. And whilst not cheap they are better priced than some of the premium chocolates at the top end of the market. 🌹

What's newsagent chocolate? It sounds like your local paper shop is making its own chocolate bars round the back. Which would be weird.
