Just put it on to see protesters being dragged off the track. Feel bad for the horses in the ring, it looks warm and there's so many people about.

If we banned everything someone didn't like there would be nothing happening anywhere.

Enfys1982 · 15/04/2023 17:35

Oh look a dead horse at that fence. It’s not fucking cruel is it?

SirChenjins · 15/04/2023 17:35

Good on the protesters. They knew they wouldn’t be able to stop it but they’re shining a bright light onto it and they’re getting more people to sit up and take notice of the cruelty involved.

CremeEggThief · 15/04/2023 17:35

Nope. I don't approve of any activities that involve animal exploitation.

I will concede most of the racehorses are probably well-looked after while they are earning money for people, but what happens to them afterwards? They're not going to be treated with the kindness and care they deserve for their efforts, in the same way that animals used for breeding don't live much longer after they're too old to breed. Heartbreaking 💔.

That is what the protesters are trying to raise awareness of, but they're probably wasting their time.

WomanFromTheNorth · 15/04/2023 17:36

It's so horrible. And the people who go there, all dressed up, make me feel sick.

Notanothernewname · 15/04/2023 17:36

I used to go to Ascot races but as I've got older all I can think of is "those poor horses". Watching today and seeing the horses getting whipped to make them go faster just makes me so sad.

The fact that one horse had a mask on to keep him calm just says it all.

PinkLemonadee · 15/04/2023 17:36

The loose horses with the flapping reins are making me nervous!

It's not about banning everything people don't 'like'. I don't like car racing but I don't call for it to be banned. It's about banning things where there is a clear risk that the participants, who don't not have the autonomy to agree to their participation, may well die.

WomanFromTheNorth · 15/04/2023 17:37

PinkLemonadee · 15/04/2023 17:25

Haven't they? The ones that don't want to do it don't stay in training.

Oh don't be so fucking ridiculous!

They’re really not. They’ve just made themselves look like a bunch of hypocritical twats.

mbosnz · 15/04/2023 17:38

The Grand National is extremely problematic, with, as I understand it, an unusually high equine mortality rate.

I'm fairly pragmatic about horse-racing, have a background with horses, including trotters, but I'm ambivalent about this one.

I'm also very cynical about how genuine the protesters are in their care and concern for the animals. They don't seem to care much for the animals impacted by their behaviours.

greenlychee · 15/04/2023 17:38

I can't see that it's that much different to bullfighting or fox hunting tbh. Surprised that people can't see why it's cruel.

SirChenjins · 15/04/2023 17:39

Meandfour · 15/04/2023 17:37

If you’re the sort of twat who doesn’t see anything wrong with forcing horses down a course that could kill them then I’m sure that is what you think.

Arewehumanorarewecupboards · 15/04/2023 17:39

I don’t watch it because I don’t like it. I’ve not seen the protestors (obviously) so don’t really have an opinion on that but it is ironic to be worried about the horses waiting rather than them running the actual race.

TheUsualChaos · 15/04/2023 17:40

Why do people try and justify racing by stating how well looked after these horses are? Spectacularly missing the point.

QuestionableMouse · 15/04/2023 17:40

Well that was fucking carnage. Glad it's over for another year.

"a fair number getting round" they should all be fucking getting round. 🤢

Florenz · 15/04/2023 17:41

Congratulations Corach Rambler.

IfYouLikePinaCoIadas · 15/04/2023 17:41

NO. It's barbaric.

I fully support the activists.

Gondala · 15/04/2023 17:41

The loose horses with the flapping reins are making me nervous!

Why? You said the grand national is fine.

SirChenjins · 15/04/2023 17:41

Shame on everyone who took part

Florenz · 15/04/2023 17:42

Congratulations to everyone that took part. It was a magnificent race.

Tinktravels · 15/04/2023 17:42

Well done to all the horses and jockeys glad the protesters did not succeed

Meandfour · 15/04/2023 17:42

SirChenjins · 15/04/2023 17:39

If you’re the sort of twat who doesn’t see anything wrong with forcing horses down a course that could kill them then I’m sure that is what you think.

And if you’re the sort of twat that thinks an acceptable way to protest against animal cruelty is to jump around causing a scene in front of said animals, therefore causing them distress then crack on being an ignorant bastard.
I’m all for having a cause, but at least try and engage your brain and fight for it in an intelligent way.

Tinktravels · 15/04/2023 17:42

I did lose my bet though 😂

m00rfarm · 15/04/2023 17:42

Rapping is to make them jump
higher than they need to. If a horse doesn’t like jumping it is never going to be used in competition. Ever.
