New Harry Potter TV adaptation: What details are you hoping get included?

Things that weren't in the film adaptations, either due to technology not being available to show it on film, budget, or cutting due to run time.

Little detail: in the Philosopher's Stone, one of the ways the Hogwarts letters are delivered to the Dursley house is rolled up inside a dozen eggs, passed through the window to Aunt Petunia (as the door is already nailed shut). I would love to see Aunt Petunia cracking open eggs and finding a Hogwarts letter inside each one.

Big detail: The whole scene in which the Weasley family attempt to come get Harry from Privet Drive ahead of the Quidditch World Cup, by connecting their fireplace to the Floo network, then can't get out as it's an electric fire, end up blasting half the living room apart and Fred & George "accidentally" let Dudley eat a Ton Tongue Toffee.

What's yours? One big detail and one little detail allowed each!

That made me jump! I thought we’d lost Maggie Smith as well then.

SeeNoWeevilHearNoWeevil · 14/04/2023 21:42

Small things - more of the house elves, Winky, SPEW etc, cleaning the Weasley garden of gnomes in HPATCOS.

Big things - Neville and St Mungo’s, Peeves.

CatherineMaitland · 14/04/2023 21:44

Just don't film it in the dark - to this day I have no idea what went on in the last two films. Could barely see a thing.

Ginny being the sassy girl. The films did her dirty!
Peeves!
The firebolt actually being given to Harry at Xmas and the fallout from it.

St Mungo’s hospital

The fireplace blowing up and the Weasleys behind it

Harry’s Parents, Sirius and Lupin being the right age instead of old

Fred and George actually being funny

wonderinglywondering · 14/04/2023 21:48

I also hope they get the twins right. Fred was my favourite character and although the twins in the movies did a fine job with the lines they were given, it irritated the hell out of me that they spoke in unison and didn’t seem to have the distinct separate characters the books had. I had such a crush on book Fred

SpikeWithoutASoul · 14/04/2023 22:06

Yes, Ginny! Such a drip in the films when she’s a great character in the books.

Would love to see more of Harry at the Dursleys making strange things happen and not understanding why. His hair always growing back immediately etc.

PatChaunceysFruitCake · 14/04/2023 22:12

Definitely Kreacher's story.

A bit more of Petunia and the look she gives Harry as she leaves in the final book.

The scene where Molly gives Harry her brother's watch for his 17th. Flushing out the subtle point that Molly was a Prewitt and both her brothers were murdered by Voldemort before her murdered one of her children.

Luna’s picture of Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny and Neville with ‘friends‘ written.

aSofaNearYou · 14/04/2023 22:18

Lupin and Tonks' relationship - I found it so charming and heartbreaking in the books.

MousesInHouses · 14/04/2023 22:23

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh.
Very, very exciting. Will JKR have any say in the production?

I hope they will cast a better Harry, Hermione and Dumbledore.

NotHooray · 14/04/2023 22:26

The Deathday party
Winky and SPEW
Neville and parents in St Mungos
Neville's gran
Lockheart in St Mungos
Hermiones teeth
Colin Creevey
Voldemorts back story
More scenes at the Burrow

Exciting news!

I'd like to see the final showdown between Harry and Voldemort shown as it was in the book in the Great Hall with everyone looking on. I always felt that was a letdown in the film.

stickybear · 14/04/2023 23:32

More of the Marauders, and of the Order of the Phoenix meetings at Grimmauld Place. In fact more of the adults generally, and Lupin in particular. I loved Lupin in the books, especially in book 3 where he's all wry smiles and twinkly eyes. Movie Lupin did not match up.

Oh I've just thought of something else - the ravenclaw symbol needs to be a fucking eagle! Not a raven!

ive seen this scene. They made a slightly longer version, not sure where it was released and the scene is in it. Uk cinema and dvd release took it out.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 15/04/2023 00:30

Little detail - Winky. Her entire involvement in the dark marks appearance and her trauma at finding herself in the Hogwarts kitchens

Big detail - Ginnys entire personality. In the books she is feisty, a smidge scary, clever and athletic. In the movies she's a fucking drip.

Morewineplease10 · 15/04/2023 00:37

Moaning Myrtle

Luna Lovegood

Both great characters so flesh that/them out as much as possible!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 15/04/2023 00:37

A proper scene depicting all the amazing taps on the prefects bathtub

Yes! And in the book their colours are blue and bronze. They are blue and silver in the films.

I can't watch the films because of how much they focus on action rather than storyline, I've tried several times because I love the books and loved a visit to the HP studio but the focus on poor CGI over storytelling really annoys me

Not sure if this counts as a big or little thing but I also hope they realistically cast actors for the characters who were Harry's parents age, they should all be in their early 30s at the start of the series not in their 50s like the actors in the films were!

Definitely the casting. It always annoyed me about the films.

sashh · 15/04/2023 05:18

Nifflers.

Why has no one said nifflers?

PretzelKnot · 15/04/2023 05:31

The whole amazing conversation in the books Harry and Voldemort had just before Voldemort died. The amazing satisfaction of reading about Voldemort’s dawning realisation about Snape’s true allegiance and the elder wand’s true allegiance. All because of love. The most critical scene of all the books and completely left out in the movie in exchange for some ridiculous overblown aerial action sequence.

SunshineAndFizz · 15/04/2023 07:39

Tom Riddle's back story.

The story of Dumbledore's sister etc.

stringbean · 15/04/2023 07:55

I always imagined Tim Roth in the role of Snape for the film version of HP - think he would have been perfect. But too old now, alas! Much as I liked Alan Rickman, always felt he was too old for the role.
