Anybody else have a word they can’t stand?

Two words I hate for reasons unknown to me - moist and buggy. No idea why.

By contrast, I love ‘bumble bee’ and again I have no justification.

Surely I’m not the only oddball who has this irrational like/dislike of words?

tummy, belly and belly button. I also can’t watch people touching their navels or rubbing their stomachs 🤮

midsomermurderess · 14/04/2023 18:02

I agree with 'lived experience'. On a recent thread about Butlins a poster huffily proclaimed that her finding it awful was her 'lived experience'. What a tit. And 'entitled'. It is everywhere. Ooh, you sound entitled, OP. I am so tired of it.

2ManyPjs · 14/04/2023 18:04

Agree with PP - cuppa

Craftycorvid · 14/04/2023 18:07

Coatigan. Even worse - jacketigan. Shacket. 😬😬😬

HoleyShit · 14/04/2023 18:07

When people say "I'm all in a tiz-waz"

Or - I'm in a tizzy

Fucking twee and irritating.

Also hate bubbles (to describe Prosecco or cava)
Nibbles, picky bits.
Supper

there's probably loads more....

Bao · 14/04/2023 18:10

Utterly.

BenCoopersSupportWren · 14/04/2023 18:13

Babba / bubba
Doggo / pupper
Kitty
Furbaby

Generally not a fan of infantilised or anthropomorphic terms for animals.

SmallandSpanish · 14/04/2023 18:13

'Educate yourself. Do your own research.' I get the idea, but FFS, so patronising. And let's be honest. People demanding we do our own research aren't usually trawling through scientific journals and peer reviewed studies are they? We're watching shit on YouTube.

electricmoccasins · 14/04/2023 18:16

At school, I had a history teacher who pronounced ‘human’ as ‘yuman’. It still makes me nauseous.

electricmoccasins · 14/04/2023 18:18

@HoleyShit

’supper’ I can cope with…

but ‘kitchen supper’ 😱🤢

eatdrinkandbemerry · 14/04/2023 18:20

Narrative 🤷‍♀️
I never really used to hear it now it's always saison the news and in schools. Don't know why I don't like it it just annoys me immensely 🙄

And 'source?' being barked at people on here as if it were an academic symposium.

Rosula · 14/04/2023 18:28

Cleanse. Somehow it sounds unctuous and unpleasant. Just say "clean", FFS.

Also hubby.

LlynTegid · 14/04/2023 18:40

Overused- 'big'. All birthdays are 24 hours long, don't do 'big' birthdays, for example.

ArcticBells · 14/04/2023 18:42

Cool
Furbaby
Meds (instead of medications)

ArcticBells · 14/04/2023 18:44

Gloriousgardener11 · 14/04/2023 17:10

Nipples -- ewww !

That's an unusual one . What else can you call them?!

Fuctifin0 · 14/04/2023 18:46

Bubs
Hubs
Ick
Cunt

MMBaranova · 14/04/2023 18:46

Educate yourself (AKA 'oi you be an autodidact') is a curious one. Clearly the non-educator sees the other of needing knowledge and understanding, but no clue is given.

I also hate this. Having others touch my stomach when I was pregnant was torture as well.

I don't mind moist. I loathe the word LUSH when used to describe anything that isn't vegetation. Makes me shudder.

signalsnap · 14/04/2023 19:45

qqq82 · 14/04/2023 14:59

'Lush'

🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

YES!
