Anybody else have a word they can’t stand?

Two words I hate for reasons unknown to me - moist and buggy. No idea why.

By contrast, I love ‘bumble bee’ and again I have no justification.

Surely I’m not the only oddball who has this irrational like/dislike of words?

What is with moist. Why are so many people offended by it.
Damp?
Moisture?
Wet?

Is it just moist?

NameChangeAndLifeChange · 09/08/2024 05:05

Poo

"Cuppa" ... and it's used on here a lot. Makes me cringe.

It’s better than ‘brew’ used as a noun, though. Ugh.

hattie43 · 09/08/2024 06:04

Cunt and Gob

Both are just vile

merrymelodies · 09/08/2024 06:25

Hate woke and chav, I’m disappointed when someone I like uses those words.

Gorgonemilezola · 09/08/2024 06:44

Chillax. Or chill used as a verb - ' I'm just gonna chill this weekend'. I'm not entirely sure what it means - do you just sit on the sofa or stay in bed for 2 days?

'Harass' mainly because nobody says it properly anymore

I'm interested in this one. Presuming you mean 'say' to mean pronounce that is. As I'm not sure I've heard (or noticed) it pronounce one way.

Mind you even if you mean 'say' as use in a sentence I'm not aware of any common misuse!!

Anyway for md, I dislike the words "ablutions" and "pop" when used to mean go somewhere.

@frangipan
I've read your list 3 times and laughed a little more each read. I was thinking, Definite theme here. Then re-read and laughed harder wondering how a few words might fit the theme. 😂

I really do not like brexit pronounced "breggsit". Or sexual, pronounced 'secsual" - anyone doing so is automatically confessing a fetish as far as I'm concerned. Similarly, people calling their husband a hubby are announcing a sexless marriage and anyone going on holibobs is announcing themselves to be an extreme twat.

theblackradiator · 09/08/2024 09:52

Tad. when people say a tad rather than a bit. no idea why but I can't stand it.

EggOm · 09/08/2024 09:56

I find it weird to hear the word "wedgie"

Flumpie59 · 09/08/2024 10:39

''Tummy''.

''Sibling(s)'' UGH! Bloody hell I absolutely HATE that awful word!

I too love bumble bee or just bumble or bee and I love discombobulate(d)!

NameChangeAndLifeChange · 09/08/2024 17:50

Been on a "journey"

Bambooshoot · 09/08/2024 18:09

“Normalcy”
(the word is “normality”)
“a wine”
(when used to mean “a glass of wine”, not the particular variety)

So glad to see so many people also hate “cuppa” - I can’t stand it!

SunshinyDay1 · 09/08/2024 18:37

Lots but I definitely agree with "belly".

Yep, they're always "literally obsessed''🤣

I have another - dirty! When used to describe food,

Dirty fries
Dirty burger

Makes them sound disgusting.

yeah- cheeky as in a cheeky wine or cheeky takeaway.

Just fucking own it. You had a wine. End of.

My friend uses 'bubba' to talk about babies 'Oh my neighbour's sister's librarian had her bubba this week'.

It's baby. Baby.
