DH to be doesn’t want a wedding ring.. at all?

Anyone roses DH not wear a wedding ring?

DP doesn’t want one at all, we get married this year. At first I thought it was because he works a manual labour job; so suggested a silicon ring and perhaps have a metal actual wedding ring put up sage and wear occasionally?

but he doesn’t want one at all and that’s thrown me a little. I mean, realistically it’s just a ring - but I liked the thought of seeing him with a ring on, that symbolisation that we are married maybe?

or am I just being silly?

Hussy is such a brilliant word. @Youaremysonshine

Woodywasatwat · 21/03/2023 15:10

I’ve never worn a wedding ring.

I’ve never worn a single bit of jewellery, I don’t like it.

(I’m a woman by the way).

We didn’t even include the swapping rings bit in the ceremony.

premicrois · 21/03/2023 15:14

it’s not about loyalty, or looking single for me I don’t think. I think it’s for my own personal gratification to look at his wedding band and think “wow we’re married!”

This is really shallow and your marriage will run much deeper, don't let it spoil things.

BeeDavis · 21/03/2023 15:14

My dad doesn’t have a wedding ring and I myself try to make more of an effort of wearing mine and my engagement ring! I can go days without wearing them.

Northe · 21/03/2023 15:14

I also dislike wearing mine. I wish I had saved the money and not purchased! I am otherwise very boring and conventional

Bananalanacake · 21/03/2023 15:14

When we had our registry office wedding we went for the non ring ceremony, so no need for rings. I'd rather spend the money on a new bathroom.

FeltCarrot · 21/03/2023 15:16

Coming up to 27 years married and my DH has never has a wedding ring. He tried one when we were choosing rings but it just didn’t suit him.

Toddlerteaplease · 21/03/2023 15:18

My dad has never worn one.

randomsabreuse · 21/03/2023 15:23

DH has/had one, no damn clue where it is and we've moved a couple of times. He can't wear it for work and he's got big knuckles so the size that goes on doesn't actually sit well on his fingers so it's only been worn for other people's weddings...

I'm happy with that.

I'm not currently wearing mine although I normally do because my skin was getting sore with the winter weather so I'm giving it a break.

gogohmm · 21/03/2023 15:23

Exh had one but rarely wore it as he didn't like wearing one with gloves (due to job) my dad lost his before I was born, 55 years on my parents are still married!

It's no big deal if the man doesn't wear jewellery, if he already regularly wears jewellery I would find it odd to refuse to wear a ring. I know dp would want one for the symbolism but not for everyday as he doesn't wear any jewellery

MysteryBelle · 21/03/2023 15:27

My husband never takes his off but then he likes wearing watches too so it doesn’t bother him. A lot of men don’t like wearing rings or any kind of jewelry. Although here in USA, most do. I had never heard of men not wearing rings until I read the men in the royal family don’t. I can’t remember the reason, does anyone know the traditional meaning of men not wearing rings? I realize it is more traditional to not wear one but I can’t remember the origin of it.

I’m not wearing my ring right now. I do love my rings but I don’t like wearing them all the time, not a huge jewelry person, so I can relate to men who don’t.

It doesn’t mean anything, op. The only time it would mean something sinister is if a guy always did wear a ring but then suddenly stopped wearing it for no reason.

It’s important to you though, and honestly it is to me too, it’s nice to be a ‘team’ and both wear rings so I get you. Your fiancé should compromise and get a ring and wear it at least sometimes. That seems reasonable to me.

twointhemorning · 21/03/2023 15:29

We got married (both for the first time) fairly late in life. I fully intended on wearing my wedding and engagement rings every day. I do, but I take them off every night. My DH never takes his off. It is the only item of jewellery he wears, except for a watch occasionally. I have to admit I do like seeing him wearing his ring and the symbolism.

xogossipgirlxo · 21/03/2023 15:32

My husband has one and it was more expensive than mine (not millions though). Never wears it. Maybe few times a year, like birthdays or Christmas.

SettlingForANewPassword · 21/03/2023 15:32

When i got married 18 years ago (registry office) we were specifically asked to tick a box saying if there would be one ring or two. So it is common enough that people do not do it.

DH refused to wear one. he said it was not the done thing in his social circles and it is true that not one of his friends wears one.

My ex refused to wear one because he was in a job that frequently saw people lose fingers due to to a ring being caught.

Parker231 · 21/03/2023 15:34

Neither DH or I wear a wedding ring. Neither of us like them. Why’s it important to you?

gamerchick · 21/03/2023 15:36

We've got them for the wedding day but I can't stand wearing rings and his got a bit snug. Still happily married.

Crispsdippedinmilk · 21/03/2023 15:40

I never wear my ring as I just hate wearing rings, they're annoying, dh has one and only wears it on special occasions, he works a physical job and also just not a massive fan. I really wish we hadn't bought them at all, as they're just a waste of money when never worn.
They're both in a box somewhere, you don't need to have the ring to have the random moments of wow were married!

HurryShadow · 21/03/2023 15:44

When DH and I got married he was the same - didn't want one. His DF didn't wear one (manual job), and he worships his dad, so anything that's good for his dad is good for him (despite him not being in a manual job!).

He was adamant that he wouldn't like it as he's never worn jewellery, not even a wristwatch.

All I asked was that he try, for me, and he agreed.

We bought him a ring, which we exchanged in the ceremony and he now will occasionally wear if we go out for an evening, but generally he doesn't wear it. He's tried it, and really doesn't like it, but will wear it for an event (when he remembers!).

I thought it would really bother me, but in reality, it doesn't, as I know how uncomfortable he finds it.

HermioneKipper · 21/03/2023 15:44

It would bother me.

My husband doesn’t like jewellery either but does wear a wedding ring. He wanted to show he was married

HurryShadow · 21/03/2023 15:45

xogossipgirlxo · 21/03/2023 15:32

My husband has one and it was more expensive than mine (not millions though). Never wears it. Maybe few times a year, like birthdays or Christmas.

Ironically, the ring we bought DH (which he rarely wears) came out more expensive than mine initially.

I added a couple of diamonds to mine to tip the balance!

QuintanaRoo · 21/03/2023 15:48

I don’t wear one. Dh used to, not sure if he still does. I hate the feeling of them.

Ponderingwindow · 21/03/2023 15:48

dh And I lovingly selected rings. Neither of us wears them for comfort and practicality reasons. If I wasn’t worried about having an allergic reaction to the ink, it is the one tattoo I would consider.

I would want to understand his objection before deciding how to react. Even a silicone ring can cause sensory issues.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 21/03/2023 15:48

Dh job is manual and.its never been a problem. Its scratched but you can't tell unless up v close.
