Would you spend this much on your hair?

So I've recently gone from bleach blonde to brown (natural colour )
It cost me £180 to do so and it faded within a few weeks
My greys have came through in 6 weeks and I'm booked in next week
It's going to cost £130 just to get my roots done and I honestly am tempted just to buy a root touch up kit.
It's not like I'm getting highlights or anything
Can't really afford it either (well I can but I would rather use that money for something else if I could )
What would you do ?
Is it worth £130 ?

Fingers crossed @pingading

I live in London. A haircut and highlights cost me around £160. My hairdresser said highlights should be done about every six weeks. There is no way I will spend that sort of money so regularly. I usually leave it for about 3/4 months.

£180 for an all over colour seems excessive to me, as I think it is simpler to do than highlighting. And £130 for roots seems an awful lot. I'd be inclined to do it myself. There are some good suggestions on here.

Deffo not for an all over colour. I spend £250 🤢 but I'm there hours and have highlights and I have long hair but when I was just brown I just did it myself

My hairdresser is around £40 for roots and blow dry. I go every 3 weeks as I'm quite grey.

Your hair looks lovely op, if you can get away with a box dye, do it. £130 is so much money, it must be a very fancy salon.

I get my cut & colour (with highlights) done for £120 (London, by self-employed hairdresser) around 4 times a year and use root touch-up to cover greys every 3 weeks in between. Works perfectly - quick and easy to use - I’d say it comes out darker so try one a bit lighter than your shade..

I have PM’d you OP

@PelicanWings

Is it really rude to turn up for a cut and colour appointment but say uou only want the cut doing?

I'd ring to let them know you don't want the colour as far in advance as you possibly can, so they know your appointment doesn't need to last so long. That way they have a chance to give the appointment time freed up to another client so they are not out of pocket.

That seems the least you can do to not impact them adversely.

All done
I don't think it's worked out too bad
Saved me over £100 anyway

Looks absolutely fine!

DuvetDownn · 05/03/2023 13:24

Well done, it looks really good.

Buzzardbird · 05/03/2023 15:12

My hair is the same colour as yours. I also went from blonde to brown and find brown needs a root and hairline touch up every three weeks. I use the Schwarzkopf Root retouch kits (available in a pack of three on Amazon) Medium brown. This brand is better than most, though I do have to leave it on at least ten minutes longer than it says and my greys are stubborn. I'd rather spend that money (and time) on something nicer than hair colour.

angela99999 · 05/03/2023 16:26

It looks really good, spend the money you saved on something lovely!

I agree it's better to let them know, but I've lost count of the number of times when my appointments have dragged on because they were behind.

ellyeth · 05/03/2023 23:40

It looks very nice.

I think notice should be given if a much shorter appointment is needed, otherwise they will lose the opportunity to book in somebody else.

Stewball01 · 06/03/2023 07:28

I'd had enough of paying tq¹o colour my hair. Told my hairdresser and he immediately cut all the colour out. I'm.now silver. Never been so happy. My sister did it too.

MamaBearBoo · 08/03/2023 21:27

My hair costs between £140-£160 I alternate between getting a full head or half a head (t-section) of highlights but I have 4 colours (a bleach, caramel, honey and a chocolate low light) so it's not just a block of colour and it does last -plus I get Prosecco and a head massage!

Caelan2018 · 09/03/2023 13:01

Highlights every second months €130 and I buy the shampoos and conditioners there too they are about 40 every 6 months then the odd toner €35
