What outside noise can you hear right now?

What noises can you from either outside or from your neighbours? So not noises that are being made from from your own family.

I have just heard the air ambulance go over (I live 2 miles from base), I can hear what sounds like somebody shoveling gravel and also my neighbour banging around in his kitchen (he is incapable of doing anything without making a racket!)

@Greengr What's that you are reading? Jojo Moyes? I thought I was the only one😏

cassiatwenty · 20/02/2023 15:16

@LakeFlyPie How is Yorkshire Dave today? Behaving himself? Should I WhatsApp him 😋

Quiet and calm. No traffic or dogs. Very lovely. In the summer our back garden neighbours (we share the back fence in our gardens) often have hot tub or bbq parties with their friends that involve alcohol and music and get quite loud.

It's easier to put up with now I work reasonable hours with no alarm set earlier than 5.30am but in my old job I'd start at 3am so would have to wake up at 1.30am and I'd often start work having had little to no sleep because along with the parties, their kids would be making noise in the garden during the day when I was trying to sleep. And when I tried to talk to them about it they told me to "f* off"

Right now, I can hear cars humming outside, far away

wobblyweasel · 20/02/2023 23:28

I can just about hear a plane going overhead, other than that nothing, because my DH is snoring so loudly!!

Whyishewearingasombero · 21/02/2023 00:33

A little bit of light snoring...but mostly the sound of the mill stream falling over the rusted Vicrorian wheel and occasionally an owl hooting.

slavetothekittens · 21/02/2023 07:49

Somebody next door shouting at someone. A car going by.

Tarkan · 21/02/2023 08:27

The starlings who nest in our roof are having a domestic by the sound of things this morning.

One of those flat bed lorries with the chains for lifting a skip just drove into the car park between our street and the next one. It waited around 5 minutes then drove off again, empty the whole time.

Carriemac · 21/02/2023 09:03

A woodpecker , and next doors contracter drilling something

Twospaniels · 21/02/2023 09:05

I’m on holiday in a villa and can currently hear someone playing tennis on a court opposite our villa, breeze through a palm tree, hum from aircon (or similar), very faintly waves on the beach nearby, my tinnitus ☹️

watcherintherye · 21/02/2023 14:33

In sharp contrast to the semi-suburban idyll of silence punctuated by birdsong I posted about yesterday, the bloody neighbours are having work done again, so I can hear lots of hammering and sawing to a background of loud music and bantz from the builders!

Mischance · 21/02/2023 14:43

Birds and lambs

cassiatwenty · 21/02/2023 14:55

I'm out, so train humming, tracks, people next to me chatting with each other and on their mobiles, PA announcing stops

OnlyTheWeedsGrow · 21/02/2023 15:13

It’s 1am here, and my neighbour has just trundled the wheelie bin up the shared pebble/concrete driveway. It sounded like rocks in a cement mixer. Other than that, there is silence.

Igenix4 · 21/02/2023 15:25

My wind chime in the garden and the occasional lorry go past on the road

Doihavetogotoworkdotcom1 · 21/02/2023 15:40

At the moment….nothing.

Inthetropics · 21/02/2023 15:42

I can hear birds. The neighbours twins playing far away.

Left · 21/02/2023 16:52

Faint hum of traffic on the next street.
A slightly louder shhhh noise when cars drive past my home.
Occasional car door noises from neighbours.
A gravelly roll sound from a neighbours garage door.
Distant birds chirping.
Crunch of my gravel and letterbox noise as a leaflet is delivered to me.
An aeroplane overhead.

From inside: a tiny snoring noise from my cat as she snoozes in her current favourite sleeping spot.

I feel really calm after stopping to listen, I’m going to make time for this every day this week.

dameofdilemma · 21/02/2023 18:00

Weirdly nothing (6pm London). I've probably got used to the distant hum of traffic/planes though.

Deathraystare · 21/02/2023 19:24

Fairly quiet outside. Just people coming in and out of reception. The noise is next door in the place of safety though the patient has calmed down but the staff are a bit rowdy every so often and I can hear the tv.

cassiatwenty · 22/02/2023 23:06

Faint hum of traffic, somewhere, far away. It's quiet.

DeeCeeCherry · 22/02/2023 23:41

Screeching cats and foxes. Its a nightly yelling match

slavetothekittens · 24/02/2023 10:18

The collared doves chatting to each other, the recycling truck on its way round and some small birds twittering.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 24/02/2023 10:19

Bin lorry and a chaffinch.

cassiatwenty · 24/02/2023 12:43

Cars humming, wind making noise, windows shaking slightly
