What outside noise can you hear right now?

What noises can you from either outside or from your neighbours? So not noises that are being made from from your own family.

I have just heard the air ambulance go over (I live 2 miles from base), I can hear what sounds like somebody shoveling gravel and also my neighbour banging around in his kitchen (he is incapable of doing anything without making a racket!)

My son and his friend chatting and our dogs barking.

Tarkan · 20/02/2023 10:45

The wind must be in the right direction today. I can hear a siren, a train, a motorbike and a car just beeped their horn once.

None of this is in my street, sounds like it's the main road through town for everything apart from the train so it's a few streets away from us.

We have a military base nearby so when the wind is the right way we can hear gunfire when they're training and get a lot of interesting aircraft overhead. I sometimes hear the air raid siren which they use at times too, but haven't heard any of that for a few weeks.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 20/02/2023 10:48

Just birdies cheeping.

Most unusual.

There’s usually the twat with the guitar in the garden 2 doors down, and monologue man in his garden diagonally opposite. Can’t hear any drills or repairs for the first time ever.

CeriB82 · 20/02/2023 10:59

Nothing. Sheep are quiet and no birds tweeting neither

Phos · 20/02/2023 11:05

It’s very windy so it’s mostly that.

TheDogsMother · 20/02/2023 11:56

Just the birds.

slavetothekittens · 20/02/2023 12:01

A chorus of birds at the back, the full noise of a plane in the distance and the radio from next door, along with a few bangs, drill noises and shouts. ( think they are renovating the kitchen)

CatMattress · 20/02/2023 12:07

Muffled screaming from the primary school at the back of the house. I quite like it.

SaturdayGiraffe · 20/02/2023 12:10

Planes, car horn, hedge trimmer.

PillBoxes · 20/02/2023 12:13

Nothing, I've removed my hearing aids! Even with them in it's very quiet here. Kids around all at school, younger parents out at work, retired like myself quiet people generally. I live in a cul de sac so no through traffic. Summertime is a bit different with the sound of children in the park at the back and in their gardens, which is a lovely sound. If they get too "squeally" then I just remove my hearing aids. I'm quite deaf from a childhood illness but the aids work great - when I want them to 😉

Air ambulance is an amazing charity

Absolutely! I'm not religious but I always offer up a prayer of sorts that everybody will be ok when I hear them go over.

Birdsong here (rural Wales).

ShinyPikachu · 20/02/2023 13:24

"Shed Man" (he's always pottering around in his garden, usually in and out of his nice shed or fixing it up in some way) is in his garden hammering something. It's not the shed this time though.

Planes, car horn, hedge trimmer.

I forgot which thread I was on when I popped back onto mumsnet. My first thought was word association, followed by what3words 😂

A couple of cars have gone past in the last half hour. And our duck was quacking a few minutes ago. That's all from outside.

Inside, DH just coughed - we all caught something on holidays so we're all at it. And the kitten has the zoomies so there's a variety of crashes and thuds coming from various places around the house. There goes DH again.

Back to outside, there goes a rooster.

writemynameinthesand · 20/02/2023 14:12

The M8. It’s a constant noise, doesn’t even stop at 3am.

WednesdaysPlaits · 20/02/2023 14:13

Just birds. There was an almighty thud a while ago as a tree fell over.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 20/02/2023 14:13

Just the wind. We live rurally in a new build with good insulation so rarely hear a thing. A few nights ago we had an owl outside which was both interesting and annoying and recently the woodpecker has returned which is also interesting and annoying especially when he/ she pecks our actual house! In summer when we have the windows open we get endless crows, and cockerels. How many cockerels can live in a small area??

welshpolarbear · 20/02/2023 14:15

Small RAF planes going round and round and round.

Otherwise it's lovely and quiet.

FourTeaFallOut · 20/02/2023 14:20

Youngest watching telly, air purifier humming, birdsong, neighbour's water feature, one set of footsteps, someone quite far away making a metallic ringing sound - like scaffolding going up and then traffic, if you listen hard enough.

MarshaBradyo · 20/02/2023 14:20

So many birds tweeting

BridieConvert · 20/02/2023 14:29

Vehicles driving on the road outside, crows flying around the trees across the road

minipie · 20/02/2023 14:32

Bloody neighbour shooting her endless netball goals (adult not child). Thud. Thud. Thud. Thud. Thud. Thud.

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 20/02/2023 14:43

Construction noises because our town centre is being revamped.

FrostyBits · 20/02/2023 14:44

Wind. It was very strong last night and still
hasn't calmed down much.
