I'm shocked but not surprised. This world is depressing and scary for women.

Just seen the school has a rifle range for students and staff. Unbelievable.

Floofyduffypuddy · 07/02/2023 21:39

@Mellymoon.. Because this is a chat forum.

A place where people come together to chat about all sorts of things and when something disturbing happens people like to talk about it and process it. It's probably so many pages long because mn has a huge member base... Go to a smaller forum and you will get a few pages.

I haven't seen any reporting that he isn't British? Where are you getting that from?

It's been reported that he was born in Jamaica.

lljkk · 07/02/2023 21:41

don't think I have ever heard of a "family annihilation" perpetrated by a woman.

There are a lot, I mean A LOT, if you start googling... which I don't recommend. Not so near bedtime, anyway.

Zone2NorthLondon · 07/02/2023 21:43

Family annihilation, it’s quite prosaic and self explanatory term. brutal

2023username · 07/02/2023 21:46

Such a horrific crime.

it’s awful to think that she was probably pregnant or with a newborn when that alleged police report was made in 2016. At her most vulnerable.
RIP mother and precious daughter, and I hope your man rots in hell.

Forfrigz · 07/02/2023 21:46

People who are arguing that men's nature are to blame are slightly misguided. Males are slightly more predisposed to violence but the problem is exacerbated by the number of them living. Males in all species are supposed to be the minority, in fact the whole point in being male is foe the gene pool to 'test' whether genes are any good or not. Nature does not care if males survive which is why they have less longevity and are more likely to take risks. The risk taking behaviour is supposed to 'roll the dice' on the particular genes the male has, if they're not any good he dies. Unfortunately these days we have disproportionate numbers of them due to antibiotics and life preserving strategies of society. The more males there are, the more violent they become in order to prop up their overblown egos amongst one another which is another thing nature uses to get them to take risks and see if they're any good. Now, in a modern society we should all be taught these things so we can overcome our nature but that's not what's happening. We're all left at the mercy of the primitive drives that lead to so much destruction and suffering.

*And even unpleasant women don't deserve to be murdered by the man she is supposed to be able to trust most.

I don't know what posters are thinking when they post things like this, unless they are trying to suggest she must have somehow been asking for it or deserved to be murdered*

Of course not. I'm not sure what you're getting at. Are you suggesting that I am saying she deserved this? Fgs no. I knew her personally and I'm devastated.

@surreygirl1987 I think your post was unfortunately phrased (undoubtedly because if you are devastated careful phrasing is the last thing on your mind). I did read it as you almost implying that she was unpleasant -but suspected that might have been an unfortunate sentence structure! I am so sorry for you and everyone who is knew her and is devastated. I know the publicity and traumatic circumstances will be making an awful loss even more unbearable

KiwiMum2023 · 07/02/2023 21:51

I can’t get this case out of my mind. I do have a tenuous connection to the school and maybe that’s why but I keep thinking of this vital, smart and charismatic woman who had so much to give. I feel sick wondering about the life she may have had behind closed doors. It is unthinkable. As for that animal, I have no words.

Bunnycat101 · 07/02/2023 21:51

I read tonight that it was her sister she called and her sister that discovered them. That will haunt the poor woman forever. By the fact she called her sister and not the police, I’m imagining she didn’t realise he was about to kill them and I desperately hope poor Lettie was asleep.

It is such a horrific case and of course it will be talked about because it happened at a school.

There are not A LOT of female family annihilator. 90% are men.

It's been discussed a lot upthread. This is false equivalence and very distasteful in the context of this thread

AdamRyan · 07/02/2023 22:00

But just for lurkers, here's an article discussing male vs female annihilator

www.magellantv.com/articles/filicide-familicide-what-drives-men-and-women-to-family-annihilation

In summary male annihilators kill their whole family due to "The killers’ inability to accept or face failures or obstacles in their life"

Women annihilators kill their children due to "major mental illness such as depression or psychosis"

They really aren't equivalent

TheGlitterFairy · 07/02/2023 22:01

totally tragic - there are no words

British citizenship isn't based on where you're born. Where are you getting that he is foreign? Unless you think Boris Johnson, Cliff Richard, Freddie Mercury, Joanna Lumley are foreign?

Where does it say that he was foreign?

Annaissleeping · 07/02/2023 22:05

I feel absolutely sick about this case. It is so incredibly sad. What a waste of human life. Evil man, how could he have done something so cruel?

flabbygoldfish · 07/02/2023 22:10

Interesting because the phrase that keeps sticking with me is when she had said ‘my husband got a new job, which wasn't meant to happen, but did,’ makes me wonder if that was something to do with it.

surreygirl1987 · 07/02/2023 22:12

The previous poster has already said she wasn't addressing me, she was addressing somebody else...

icelolly12 · 07/02/2023 22:23

From The Daily Mail:

It was suggested Mr Pattison had continued to live at the family’s previous address for months after his wife took up her new post as the first female head at Epsom College.

Maybe there was an anger at moving house due to Emma Pattinson's new job.

They got 1.5 million for the sale and moved into free accommodation, so I'm not so convinced there would be money worries after this, but maybe it was a dent to his pride... just thoughts.

CraftyGin · 07/02/2023 22:24

I used to teach at Epsom College. I can't imagine what it is like today.

Justalittlebitduckling · 07/02/2023 22:27

I don’t feel that way most of the time either.
but the fact of the matter is I could be murdered while jogging or walking the dog on any random day of my life, whether I think about it or not.

Is there fuck.

The gun in this case is ultimately irrelevant, he would have done it with another means. Rip Emma and Lettie

Minimalme · 07/02/2023 22:34

This is why I spend many hours on here encouraging women to ltb.

People try to shut women down who share their worries about their partners. Lots of placating, not listening and reassuring words while ignoring the monster stood behind her.

Women stay in abusive relationships because they worry they will let their family down. They put effort into 'making it better' and 'being better' and have nothing left for saving themselves and their children.

We should all be outraged on their behalf and stand with them against male violence.

user764329056 · 07/02/2023 22:34

Every day there’s at least one murder reported of women and/or children by men, it’s fucking horrendous and if it was the other way round with women as the perpetrators there’d be uproar

I don't buy that he would have done it by other means. Ease of access to a method made it easy. How often had he threatened them with that gun? I think the gun and access to it is very relevant here. Yes, there are annihilators that use other methods, but it was a gun here. A gun that should never have been in the hands of an accountant in a school, in his home. There is no need for an accountant to have a gun in his home.
