I'm shocked but not surprised. This world is depressing and scary for women.

Good, it bloody well should be. Looks to me like yet again the police might have ignored warning signs.

There weren’t any really - although I’d really question renewing a gun licence for someone who lives on school property.

lets not pretend that a lack of guns would have stopped this though. If a man is determined to kill his wife and child he will find a way, he doesn’t need a gun. I hate guns and wish people weren’t allowed gun licences but the gun was just a means to an end for this awful man

What if he'd gone on the rampage in the school? If he's prepared to murder his own daughter then why not other girls. It's a terrifying thought.

I think being appalled by what did happen is bad enough, without thinking he'd do a Sandy Hook.

Thankfully to date, no one in the UK has done something like that and thankfully we have much tighter gun laws. I don't know why he had a gun, especially on what seemed to be school grounds. He was an accountant, not a farmer.

It's unbelievable to me still that he could do this. I don't understand how someone could kill their child

Guns do however make it a lot easier for the attacker and a lot harder for the defender and someone shot is more likely to die than someone stabbed etc. It also takes longer with other means and in this case, help was on the way.

This. Men kill women by means other than guns every day.

StClare101 · 07/02/2023 20:54

I knew it would be him. It’s the same the world over.

In Australia, on average one woman is killed by her current or former partner every single week.

Only once I’ve been wrong when having the suspicious at another news report and in that instance it was her Dad. He still killed the grandkids as well as his daughter.

Then there was the man who hunted his children like prey and killed them when he knew their mother would be out of the house. To punish her. The teenagers weee found dead hiding under a desk with their arms around each other.

These men could just kill themselves but no, they see their partner and even worse their children as possessions.

I wonder if they ever spare a fleeting thought for their own parents etc? How they will be thought of by everyone as a monster?

I’m tearing up as I write this. I’m so damn sick of it.

Male violence is fucking everywhere and women who minimise that can fuck right off.

Not surprised, the wretched, evil coward.

I bet the 2016 report of DV HE tried to make was the classic deflection tactic these abusers often make.

Once she had made that distressed call to the relative, he knew his public mask had slipped and he took the most evil steps after that.

Name changed for this but my abusive ex-husband did exactly the same.

I used to work in a job where I needed a clear Enhanced DBS and he accused me multiple times of abusing him/kids. He wanted me arrested so I would no longer have a clear DBS or a job, and then become even more reliant on him.

Oh how quickly Dunblane has been forgotten. Another amazing inspirational teacher and 16 children.

Dunblane, 1996.

Atethehalloweenchocs · 07/02/2023 20:56

FFS MH does NOT equal murder. Plenty of people have MH issues and dont hurt anyone, I am sick of seeing violence downplayed this way.

What warning signs? Moving house?

Atethehalloweenchocs · 07/02/2023 20:58

And yes, Dunblane- another fucking man with a gun.

I completely agree with you. I am so f ing angry. Thinking of Hannah Clarke and her three children burned alive in her car by her scum ex husband.

Yes I was just going to come to say that.

Those poor babies and their amazing teacher.

Andy Murray and his Brother Jaimie were at the school at the time.

goodbyestranger · 07/02/2023 21:00

Dunblane has been mentioned in terms at the Plymouth shootings inquest. The KC asked the guy in change of issuing licences whether the lessons of Dunblane had been ignored, and the guy said yes, that's correct - ignored.

Ah. I honestly forgot that. I've an old brain and don't like to verify via Google everything I post. Apologies for not remembering.

a tragedy as it is, how is there 24 pages of comments on this? What’s there to say and what difference will it make?

WellWhatASurprise · 07/02/2023 21:03

Worst thing is I knew by the tone of the police statements, no third party being sought etc
A clever, capable woman and her daughter murdered violently
No wonder it’s called annihilation

Ndd135632 · 07/02/2023 20:30

Agreed. But Jess now needs to stop pretending that women don’t need safe spaces.

Absolutely this. The LP are completely, horrifyingly stupid on this. Rosie Duffield is one of the very few who has a backbone and will stand up for women and girls.

goodbyestranger · 07/02/2023 21:04

The family member who was phoned may well be able to provide good evidence as to what was going on. It's a pretty chilling fact that the husband reported the wife in 2016. Classic move on an abuser's part and clearly very troubling for someone with direct safeguarding responsibilities as she would have had at that time. Essentially he was threatening to take down her entire career. And of course the police would have turned up and scolded her like a naughty girl. That's what they do - love it when a man reports a woman.

Why don't you want us to talk about Male violence?

Keeping quiet has never made a difference.

GoAgainstNicki · 07/02/2023 21:07

I KNEW this would be the case. The amount of violence that men show women and children is genuinely horrifying. This is something that will never stop and will only get worse.

What in the world would drive someone to do this?! It’s so awful, my God
