I'm shocked but not surprised. This world is depressing and scary for women.

Emma and Lettie didn't 'lose their lives'. They were brutally murdered.

VioletaDelValle · 07/02/2023 14:21

Three people have lost their lives and it is sad for all 3 of them. Where is the compassion?

I'm sad for two of them.

He can rot in hell.

This, I will never feel compassion for someone who has put a bullet in his wife and 7 year old child. I’ll save my compassion for the victims not the evil cunt who did this.

Member968405 · 07/02/2023 14:24

BlusteryLake you have put it beautifully

This ⬆em

In spades.

How desperately terrified they must have been. There are no words foul enough to describe him.

Lentilweaver · 07/02/2023 14:27

So much obfuscation. All the ' yes women do it too' posters, please go and check the stats on sexual violence and family amnihilation. Digging up a rare case of women killing their children doesn't make you clever.

Do you think a female met officer would be able to get away with what David Carrick did?

As for the pathetic poster who said I am the problem, yes women ranting on a forum is the same as men annihilating their families.

Emotionalsupportviper · 07/02/2023 14:27

*sorry - not sure where the "em" come from

Walkingtheplank · 07/02/2023 14:28

I am distraught and raging.

Emma was a wonderful woman. She touched the lives of so many people - family, friends, colleagues, pupils and parents. I dont think I've ever seen such glowing and admiring comments from those who knew someone.

Lettie was a delightful girl. She was shot second, so she almost certainly knew her dad was about to kill her.

The horror.

I am f-ing raging that this has happened - and will probably happen a few more times this week if it's an average week.

The NAMALT misogynist and handmaidens can f**k right off. How dare you seek to justify and minimise this. It is an outrage. An absolute outrage.

Capitane · 07/02/2023 14:28

Over 90% are men according to this.

WedonttalkaboutMaureen · 07/02/2023 14:29

lifeturnsonadime · 07/02/2023 11:44

Emma and Lettie you deserved so much more than this violent man that you should have been able to trust. RIP.

To all of the posters who wish to minimise the violence that women & children face at the hand of violent males just shut the actual fuck up. Minimising this and blaming it on mental health of the male is part of the problem.

2-3 women are killed by men per week in the UK most by the men they should be able to trust the moment.

We need to talk about this. We need to stop downplaying it.

Yes yes yes

RandomCatGenerator · 07/02/2023 14:29

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 07/02/2023 12:07

Did she kill her husband/partner as well?

She did. She was a healthcare professional and administered a drug to herself, her husband and her children while they were sleeping (have tried to leave that a bit vague so as not to be too outing). It was so sad - lots of my class had known the little girl, and the family were devastated.

ScandinavianSkies · 07/02/2023 14:30

mast0650 · 07/02/2023 13:42

It's terribly sad, but we don't know anything about what he was going through. To call him a "monster" when he was likely very ill is wrong. Would you say the same if a woman had done it? My grandmother killed herself and her very young daughter. She was pregnant at the time and by father nearly died too. Was she a monster?

You utterly disgust me

WedonttalkaboutMaureen · 07/02/2023 14:31

@Tamarindtree if you're not angry, you're not paying attention.
Look at the stats.

LookItsMeAgain · 07/02/2023 14:32

themessygarden · 07/02/2023 13:57

@LookItsMeAgain , reminded me of that too ! and the subsequent campaign 'Her name was Clodagh'.

Just awful for the family of Emma and Lettie, RIP.

Exactly - the headlines were all about him and his mental health and his state of mind and in all of the news stories, a woman and her children were almost incidental to it all.

I remember the campaign "Her name was Clodagh" very well.

ThePoshUns · 07/02/2023 14:33

Bastard. Not interested in any excuses for him.
A woman in her prime and a little girl with her whole life ahead of her.
So sad for their family, friends and community.

smileladiesplease · 07/02/2023 14:33

We all knew it would be this way. Family anihalators are almost 100% men.

Final act of control.
What a bloody waste

HiccupHorrendousHaddock · 07/02/2023 14:34

Capitane · 07/02/2023 14:28

Interesting article. I hadn’t heard the term “anomic suicide”.

lieselotte · 07/02/2023 14:38

lalalalalaalalala · 07/02/2023 12:29

I have no compassion for the murderer.
Murdering his child especially is unforgivable.

He is no better than the shooters in the US. I doubt you'd have compassion for them. The only difference is he killed himself before he moved beyond his family - thank goodness, considering the location at a school.

StPaulandTheBrokenBones · 07/02/2023 14:38

This article about Clodagh Hawe and her children is insightful and the section about how the media writes about these types of cases is spot on in my view.

granta.com/he-had-his-reasons/

Having been in an extremely controlling and violent marriage with the father of my child I can only think "there but for the grace of God" (I'm not at all religious but this phrase resonates).

RIP.

GreyGoose1980 · 07/02/2023 14:39

ShiverOfSharks · 07/02/2023 12:26

Women have been known to kill their children and themselves, but they are usually a) severely mentally ill at the time or b) surpassingly desperate and struggling very badly with feeding and housing said kids. Male family annihilators typically do it simply because the relationship is in trouble or whatever facade of success they like to present to the world is under threat. The old "if I can't have (control) you..." It's a manifestation of domestic abuse.

Are we now allowed to say how ridiculous it is to have a rifle range on school grounds. He could have shot several pupils as well if he so desired..

It was his shotgun, nothing to do with the rifle range. The police have made this clear.

Newtonsnipple · 07/02/2023 14:41

Fuck that cowardly despicable bastard.

And fuck anyone with the tiniest ounce of pity for him over the beautiful woman and child that the cunt brutally murdered.

Im not a believer in religion, but cases like these make me wish that hell was real.

We all KNEW exactly what this would be yesterday. Enraging that even now people are trying to put the focus and sympathy on the murderer rather than the victims.

All I can feel when these cases keep happening, again and again and again, is impotent rage.

The truth is that it won’t be stopped. Our anger and despair over this case will mean nothing to the next victims.

And tomorrow/ the next day/ month will see another woman and/or child murdered by a man.

And supposedly ‘good’ men and handmaidens will rush in to scream ‘Not all men’ instead of asking ‘why are there so many fucking men doing this? And how the fuck do we stop them?!’.

Charming response to me sharing a family tragedy. Where is your humanity?
My father died of suicide too by the way.

The feeling of disgust is mutual.

SweetSakura · 07/02/2023 14:42

Both Emma and Lettie sound like they were very well loved and amazing people. I am so sorry about the horrors they must have gone through that night and also quite possibly for many years beforehand too. And I feel for everyone who knew them and is dealing with this horror.

There's no excuse, and I am horrified to see apologists for murder on this page.
