I'm shocked but not surprised. This world is depressing and scary for women.

Firstly, I do feel terrible for the poor woman and child murdered. It’s a tragedy. I cannot get my head around what causes someone to do this.

it is worth pointing out though, that family murder/ suicides like this is not a uniquely male on female pattern of violence - yesterday a woman tried to stab her three kids and then herself, luckily help arrived before they all died. The woman is recovering in hospital and has been arrested (it was in Huddersfield IIRC). To make this only a ‘male on female’ violence problem isn’t accurate.

im not seeking to detract from what the husband did - it was wrong on every level and abhorrent - but I think it’s important that things are looked at accurately.

Here’s a cookie from the men 🍪

This thread is really not the place for your “women do this too” bullshit.

needthiswilderness · 07/02/2023 13:52

I'm furious too. Furious and so exhausted of men killing women and girls and no meaningful action or change to stop it happening again and again and again. Not to mention the awful misogynists and apologists who crop up like poison whenever a man kills a woman, trying to explain it away or blame the victim. Ugh, I'm so deeply deeply angry.

Come on! Female violence of that nature is so rare. This is absolutely and completely a male violence issue

There are no reasons for guns in a school. None. Ever.

Maybe we should outlaw men having ownership of guns, full stop. If they have a need, they can be borrowed from authorised centers for sport etc, under female monitoring. If they continue to kill us, they can't be trusted with weapons.

Oh do stop being so silly.

Movinghouseatlast · 07/02/2023 13:53

These situations are more common than we think.

Around 18 months ago the same thing happened in my village, except the children were saved by a neighbour breaking the door down. The man then killed himself in front of the children who had witnessed him kill their mother. This was never reported in the national.press and the inquest was not reported at all. The woman who was murdered is not even included in lists of women who have been killed by their partners. She has been forgotten. How many more are there like her?

How are we still on a world where violence against women is not surprising, is not unusual? Why does nothing change? It makes me so angry and despairing.

BigotSpigot · 07/02/2023 13:55

FrenchFancie 'looking at this accurately' would acknowledge that the vast majority of crimes like these are committed by men, not dragging up a desperately sad and vanishingly rare case of a woman killing her children.

If you look at the data, this absolutely is male pattern violence.

themessygarden · 07/02/2023 13:57

@LookItsMeAgain , reminded me of that too ! and the subsequent campaign 'Her name was Clodagh'.

Just awful for the family of Emma and Lettie, RIP.

Amazingly, women with MH issues manage not to annihilate their families. This is a male violence issue.

Well some do but it seems churlish to argue the point at the moment. It’s a terrible tragedy and I absolutely despise people, whoever they are, who murder their families out of nothing more than spite.

fairypeasant · 07/02/2023 13:58

Something radical needs to be done about male violence. Allowing men to own and use weapons is literally killing us and our children. And themselves.

And this was a school, normalising gun use. The guns have to go. Men can't be trusted with them. 94% of those holding a gun licence are men.

Oh for the love of god, it’s MEN who hate women and so murder and rape us that’s the fucking problem. Women who hate men tend to just want to stay the fuck away from them, which they are fully entitled to do.

HarlanPepper · 07/02/2023 14:00

I think studies have shown that men and women kill their children in roughly equal numbers, but family annihilation is definitely more a male crime.

SleepyMathematician · 07/02/2023 14:01

I teach secondary age students and it was honestly so depressing hearing my GCSE students talk about this yesterday. Their comments were all “I expect one of them killed the other one” and they were shocked and thought it was outrageous that I said “yes, almost certainly the man did the killing”. The girls especially are so conditioned to “be kind” that a) they genuinely couldn’t see or agree that it was more likely to be the man doing the murdering and that b) they’d have excused it anyway on the grounds the poor man was probably stressed and had mental health issues.

Why are we feeding our kids this bullshit? Why are we so frightened to speak the truth? This is about MALE violence. It happens depressingly, scarily, often and nothing is done. You can bet your life if it was normally women killing men we wouldn’t be making excuses for them or pretending these kinds of crimes are committed equally by both sexes. I am so angry that this keeps on happening.

stop with the not-all-men bullshit. Pops up every time you try and discuss male violence and is used as a way to deflect from what is actually happening and what we want to discuss which is why are men so violent and what can be done to make it better. Yes not all men but its always men.

CaveMum · 07/02/2023 14:02

@LookItsMeAgain the case of Clodagh Hawe and her boys is haunting. The fact she was only referred to as “his wife” in reporting, a mere possession not a person in her own right, makes me seethe. Her family spoke out about being pressured by the Church into allowing him to be buried alongside his victims, though thankfully he was exhumed after 250 days.

Not all men. But a fuck tonne of men. Too many men. Much much more men than women. 98% of sexual and violent crime are carried out by men. Why? And this warrants talking about.

Posts like yours certainly doesn't help. At all.

JemimaTiggywinkles · 07/02/2023 14:03

To call him a "monster" when he was likely very ill is wrong.

Firstly, I think you're going to need to provide some evidence of it being "very likely" he was ill. Most men who murder women are not ill at all. They're just bad people.

Secondly, even if he was ill (which I don't believe), he had a choice to either get help or kill himself but not his family. Instead, he decided to murder his wife and child.

Stop trying to make excuses. Too many men murder their wives and children. Those who choose to kill themselves afterwards rather than face justice for their actions do not deserve any more sympathy than those who go on the run.

HiccupHorrendousHaddock · 07/02/2023 14:04

I swear all these NAMALT posters can
get in the sea. Read the fucking room

An inspirational, talented woman and a 7 year old girl were murdered. He did this. He didn’t just kill himself, he wilfully and knowingly took their lives too.

This is overwhelmingly a male crime. Male violence is a massive problem.

My thoughts are with the family of Emma and Lettie. Those poor souls.

PSNonsense · 07/02/2023 14:04

Can't even tell someone to fuck off with their NAMALT without the handmaiden mods getting deletion happy 🙄
