I've really fancied trying these Bueno eggs, finally saw them in Tesco and nearly collapsed in shock at the price. £2.75!! For a few tiny little eggs. I think not. The delights of the Bueno egg will remain a mystery to me.

What have you seen lately that's ridiculously overpriced? I know everything but maybe like the little treats you might have bought that are now so out of budget that you won't buy them even if you can afford too.

£3.95 for a tiny bottle of Heinz ketchup in co-op. I used to say ketchup and beans were never going to be something I'd buy own brand, but not any more.
Their own brand was £1 and tastes fine.

We bought Tesco’s own a little while back as they had no Heinz. Won’t be switching back again at 1/4 of the price. It used to be the own brand ones were pretty horrid but this one is fine and the kids like it so good result there

Charity shops

I agree . Went into one charity shop recently. There was a white stuff skirt selling for £16.99. It was new with tags, but still...it's only white stuff.
Seemed overpriced to me.

It’s so variable. Our local RSPCA my 6 year old found 2 really nice next dresses, an H&M butterfly top, M&S jumpsuit and a zip up hoody in the 5 for £1 bins

Sparkleshine21 · 03/02/2023 20:09

@Petlover9 shes six so she doesn’t even look at the tins, she just knows by taste somehow! It was a nightmare in lockdown when they went out of stock of the Heinz bolognese for ages and she wouldn’t eat any own brands 🤦🏼‍♀️

ensayers · 03/02/2023 20:10

Any item on any shelf at WH Smith.

How has that shop not gone bust?

Sparkleshine21 · 03/02/2023 20:13

@Girlattheback great tips thanks! I’ll have a look. I think I have a sign up offer of a discount off over £60 👌🏼

Genius gluten free bread. £4.50 and its not even half the size of a normal loaf.

Yay for coeliacs 🙄

If you've got an M&S or Waitrose near you have a look. Their gluten free range is actually nice and the prices are bad but not THAT bad!!

RustyExhaust · 03/02/2023 20:17

@Rebel2023

Ooh! I am so jealous… that would be my dream shopping combo!😁
it’s become a bit of a challenge, trying to find the best quality you can at the best price, so at the moment Home Bargs is the winner, a monthly Iceland delivery for the freezer and mainly Asda for top-ups.

Cinema tickets. We wanted to take our son to see Avatar when it was first released. He loves 3D films. (He’s 21 so an adult, but he has special needs). It was £48 for three adults. We couldn’t afford to go.

Which cinema was that?
Have you looked at Vue prices for the same film, near me they have a long standing offer of any ticket £499. Another Vue has the extra large comfy seats and there its any ticket £8.99
£16 seems a lot!

I saw a photo on FB earlier of a supermarket shelf. HP sauce £4.10 😮

The large bottle in my local Tesco was £2.99 today, not on special offer. Maybe the facebook post was a fake?

HelloBunny · 03/02/2023 20:26

“Fashion” clothing. Saw a Ganni jumper in a women’s mag recently. £££ for a fugly orange & purple number with GANNI written across the chest. Stylish it was not... Most designer gear is actually minging. From what I’ve seen in TK Maxx Clearance!

Moonlightsonatas · 03/02/2023 20:31

Baby and toddler shoes at Clarks, got DD measured and was shocked that the shoes were £40 a pair. Can’t afford to pay that so ended up getting some second hand off FB.

Maybe. But prices do vary wildly across the country.

TortolaParadise · 03/02/2023 20:36

Giant Wotsits £2.50 !

Anotherselfemployedcleaner · 03/02/2023 20:37

HRTFT, so apologies if this has already been mentioned.

Can’t recommend the ‘Trolley’ app enough - it’s saved me (and my clients) loads: won’t work for everyone as depends which supermarkets you have easy access to (in my town, it’s Tesco and Co-op), or whether you can work as a group (see below):

Trolley

I reckon the way forward is going to be people clubbing together with delivery passes for different supermarkets.
Is it right to have to do that? No. Does it work? Yes.

I have Morrisons, clients have Ocado, Sainsbury, Tesco and Waitrose. We all use the app, and work it out between us.

Girlattheback · 03/02/2023 20:39

@Sparkleshine21 you’re welcome.

I think I completely missed the point of the thread though 😂

TwoMonthsOff · 03/02/2023 20:40

Clinique uplighting on eBay for £143 -I have two unused (I’m not selling them ) retailed at £30 before it was discontinued, it’s nice but not that nice

Most daftly overpriced thing you've seen lately?
Rebel2023 · 03/02/2023 20:45

@RustyExhaust it's fab! I'm also partial to the other retail park which has TK maxx, homesense, home bargains and dunelm

DuchessOfDisco · 03/02/2023 20:48

A 2year old Hyundai i10 premium, 1.2 automatic for £16,500. The EXACT same car rrp is only £345 more - and you could probably haggle that down as well.
so much for cars loosing value the minute you drive them off the forecourt

dms1 · 03/02/2023 20:54

We don’t have Vue sadly. In fact cinema options near us are limited! Lesson learned though… we have a wee jar now to save for outings etc although it’s not always easy to find something spare to put into it. Prices for everything now is crazy. Our latest gas increase has hobbled us with respect to going out.

Herecomesthesun1976 · 01/02/2023 22:08

Small jar (230g) of Bisto Best. £4 in Tesco yesterday! Unbelievable!

They had that for £2.50 in Lidl, and I thought it was overpriced at that!

A cheese toastie at our local garden centre. £14.50 Well I thought that for that it would be a good one. No, two bog standard pieces of white sliced, nondescript cheddar, three slices of white onion.

Same garden centre, the little sachets of ketchup etc that used to be complimentary. 50p each. But what surprised me most was that the place was rammed with people obviously very happy to pay these prices.

SaturdayGiraffe · 03/02/2023 21:03

All the houses that went on the market in winter 2022 at summer 2022 prices and are still unsold...
