Most daftly overpriced thing you've seen lately?

I've really fancied trying these Bueno eggs, finally saw them in Tesco and nearly collapsed in shock at the price. £2.75!! For a few tiny little eggs. I think not. The delights of the Bueno egg will remain a mystery to me.

What have you seen lately that's ridiculously overpriced? I know everything but maybe like the little treats you might have bought that are now so out of budget that you won't buy them even if you can afford too.

These beers are a bargain!

I always think that people who fall for those deserve to be conned! It's often much cheaper to buy 2 1 litre bottles of Vimto than a 2 litre size.

Bluebelle100 · 03/02/2023 21:04

This made my eyes pop last week!

Went into Tesco for a small jar of coffee as there was none at work. What the heck happened to the price of coffee? Nothing under £6.50.

Tabitha1960 · 03/02/2023 21:08

Half a litre tub of Haagen Dazs Salted Caramel, which for years I've bought at £3.50 to £4 depending on shop, is now showing as £6.20 in some places, like Morrisons at Amazon.

@Rebel2023

Oh God!!
Don’t mention Dunelm😍
I could die a happy woman right there in their cushion selection!!
I got offered a job there - but I’d spend all my wages in store and end up owing them! Don’t think I’ve ever bought anything that was shoddy or disappointing from there. I could literally spend spend, spend in that shop!
Also love a good poke round in B+M - but finding it more expensive and full of tat since Christmas.

A cheese toastie at our local garden centre. £14.50 Well I thought that for that it would be a good one. No, two bog standard pieces of white sliced, nondescript cheddar, three slices of white onion.

Same garden centre, the little sachets of ketchup etc that used to be complimentary. 50p each. But what surprised me most was that the place was rammed with people obviously very happy to pay these prices.

You are kidding ??? 14.50 for a cheese toastie 🤯

I also love Dunelm and Home Bargains luckily have one of each smashing stores really nearby

Trampslikeu · 03/02/2023 21:14

Have a look on the Heinz UK website shop, you can buy bundles and have them delivered free if you use the subscription part.

PrincessPeachy · 03/02/2023 21:14

My local farm shop had home grown cauliflowers for £2.99 today and pointed cabbages for £2! I really want to support them, but wtf! I did buy their meat and sausages though, that I don’t mind paying for as it’s amazing!

Tabitha1960 · 03/02/2023 21:24

It wasn't in the window but I asked my local very reasonable butcher if he had a leg of lamb please. He popped into the store to grab one whilst I got a £20 note out of my purse, wondering if there'd be any change as I hadn't bought one for years and had no idea what they cost these days.

He weighed it, wrapped it and as he handed it over the counter I nearly fainted when he said that'll be £37.50 please.

Thinking2022 · 03/02/2023 21:24

Awful

zippitydoda · 03/02/2023 21:25

@whatsinaname2 interesting. I'm desperate to go to Thailand and keep reading its so cheap.

Maybe time for a re-think.

LadyLapsang · 03/02/2023 21:25

Dishwasher salt - seems to be a shortage of the normal bags, had to buy an expensive branded box. @Bluebelle100 those Simplehuman mirrors are very good when you get to a certain age / level of sight.

Had a bit of a chuckle about Paperchase earlier in the week - few years ago they allowed themselves to be bullied by left wing fascists like Owen Jones into withdrawing advertising from the DM (and I have no real regard for that particular rag)

As the saying goes "go woke, go broke"

Left wing fascist 😆

I can beat that, I saw a cauliflower today for £3.49! I stopped to see if it was special in some way but no, it looked exactly the same as the one I bought in Aldi for 97p.

Branded anything seems to be the issue at the moment - how on Earth are Heinz shifting ketchup at £3.99 a bottle when even the Essential Waitrose one (which is nice) is 90p? Who the fuck is buying brands still, and WHY?

I'm aged 60+ so the cost of the mirror together with my image in it made me gasp....lol

pigsinoodies · 03/02/2023 21:42

People are stupid, and many people just buy what they buy.

I've watched ex-DP shopping and there is literally no attention to prices at all. Plenty of moaning about the cost at the end of the shop but no attention at all to the price of what's bought.

So 1.60 for Heinz soup when there's Tesco's for 60p. 1.10 for three onions when there's a 1kg bag for 49p right next to them. 1.45 for Uncle Ben's rice when there's Tilda for 95p or Tesco's for 35p on the same shelf. Buy a pack of 4 whatevers when it's cheaper to buy 2 packs of 2 whatevers. Supermarkets obviously make their profits from idiots.

£35 for a water bottle with a smelly cap!!!

I bought one of these for my niece as she wanted one for her birthday and couldn't believe the price tag of £35!!

Whatthetrolley · 03/02/2023 18:52

Aldi sell them for £1.69 and they don't bulk out with Brazil nuts, so double bonus!

Lidl do too, but they are bulked out with those bitter bastards, aka walnuts.

Mummapenguin20 · 03/02/2023 21:48

Chocolate spread is ridiculous

LoisLane66 · 03/02/2023 21:50

2 tiny pieces of frozen cod fillet in gluten-free crumb from M&S. £4.25. So small I ate both with veg and a whole pack of Tilda lime and pepper rice. Tasty but they're much smaller than last year and 75p more expensive.

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 03/02/2023 21:52

I balked at one Suckies yoghurt pouch costing £1... my DD wanted it for her packed lunch but I fobbed her off with a pack of 6 that cost only a little more.

JFM27 · 03/02/2023 21:57

Cooking foil in Aldi used to be less than £2. Now over £4.00 if Aldis is that what the hell are other shops charging, Bought baking paper instead does same job way cheaper.

Lizzy1980 · 03/02/2023 21:59

Two double G&T’s were just over £25 in the pub last weekend. Luckily it wasn’t my round 🤣 Needless to say we didn’t stay for another. I was with an old friend and we were reminiscing about the days when we used to go out in town on Monday nights because it was student night and certain drinks were £1. You could have a pint of lager, bottles of Smirnoff Ice or Reef (anyone remember that stuff???), a small glass of wine or a shot, they were all £1. We’d go out with twenty quid, get drunk and still have enough left over for a bag of chips to eat on the walk home. Happy days. This would be around 2004 so quite a while ago but still
