I've really fancied trying these Bueno eggs, finally saw them in Tesco and nearly collapsed in shock at the price. £2.75!! For a few tiny little eggs. I think not. The delights of the Bueno egg will remain a mystery to me.

What have you seen lately that's ridiculously overpriced? I know everything but maybe like the little treats you might have bought that are now so out of budget that you won't buy them even if you can afford too.

The large tubs of branded yoghurt (Onken I think?) were £5.50 in Tesco yesterday!

Gosh!

I noticed a couple of weeks ago in Aldi that their own Greek natural yogurt seemed to be one of the few things that hadn’t shot up in price. Very reasonable indeed.

FallonofDynasty · 03/02/2023 19:12

Heinz tinned soup is now about the same as the fresh soup in the refrigerator section.
Doesn't seem right!

Mulefathethird · 03/02/2023 19:14

Given electricity costs have shot up trying to work out if it's cheaper to make soup rather than by tins now

I think there's an awful lot of profiteering going on. Greedy supermarkets.

Agreed - the profiteering is going way too far and looks like out and out greed to me too.🙄
Also, supermarket petrol and diesel is overpriced by at least 10p/per litre according to the AA, so supermarkets are making a killing there too.😡

cakewench · 03/02/2023 19:17

I've just been marvelling today at how the price of a pack of 300 handwriting pens (I do purchasing for a primary school) has gone up almost £30 since I started the role at the start of the school year.

There are cheaper options out there but I'm afraid of switching in case they turn out to not be as sturdy as these 😑

But surely quicker turnover and not asking for the same/more for a pre lived item is better? It winds me up when I see them asking £5/6 for a primark top I just think who’s going to buy that?

I agree - I presume they know the market or they will not be making money or providing reasonable priced clothes.

DrSimeon · 03/02/2023 19:26

Bisto Best £2.00 in Asda

littlbrowndog · 03/02/2023 19:27

Cat food. 16.70 for 40 pouches. I swear to god they were 12.00 just recently.

everywhere is selling them at that price. Is that price fixing ?

Voting for the Tories and/or Brexit has turned out to be very expensive ...

It's brexit and Tories yes. We are in a right hole in this country. I'm really very fearful of the future. If food prices continue to rocket like this people are going to starve.

I think Heinz are taking the piss with their hikes in price. Also produce grown in the UK like rape seed oil gone very expensive, Tesco has even said some of its suppliers are profiteering. Walkers 6 bag crisps now £1.80 in Tesco. I visit 3 supermarkets now to try to buy cheaper. Crowds of people looking in the reduced counter for their dinner down my way. 😠

Had a bit of a chuckle about Paperchase earlier in the week - few years ago they allowed themselves to be bullied by left wing fascists like Owen Jones into withdrawing advertising from the DM (and I have no real regard for that particular rag)

As the saying goes "go woke, go broke"

wtf?

£1.10 for a REDUCED dented tin of Heinz soup. £1.70 full
Price.

That gluten free bread is terrible. I'm sorry to read that as you're not awash with options there.

I was going to say Heinz soup. £1.69 a can now, are you fucking joking? It was 85p about a year ago. Not a chance will I buy that salt ridden shite, even though I’m partial to a tin of cream of tomato

Mary46 · 03/02/2023 19:38

Same in Dublin with prices. In dealz (poundland) 1.50 everything is now 1.75. Aldi and Lidl increased too

Girlattheback · 03/02/2023 19:41

@Reebokclassics. We have similar issues …. Heinz beans and tomato soup are regularly on special offer at Ocado. £10 for 12 cans.(83p per tin) at the moment. you can have a whole delivery of bulk bought soup and beans….. if you haven’t ordered from them before there are sign up discounts too.

CriticalAlert · 03/02/2023 19:42

I think that some supermarket chains are profiteering. Some of these price increases are unsustainable. Cafés will go out of business if they're too expensive. Maybe the Tories want the poor to starve to death??

TerfOnATrain · 03/02/2023 19:44

Boneless chicken things - 4.49 for a small tray in Morrisons, they were 2.99. I bought no chicken today, the price was a joke

Pigtailsandall · 03/02/2023 19:44

@Rosscameasdoody (great username btw) know, it's sad. I love supporting local pubs - this one is close to my work and a bit "trendy" but popping in for a quick drink after work is now a total luxury

I was browsing second hand clothes online earlier and they have gone up too. I love supporting second-hand trade but if the difference between a new shirt and an old shirt is, well, near enough nothing I'll get the new one thanks

kateandme · 03/02/2023 02:43

that french fancie one has me really upset.i CANNOT come to terms with that price hike. they were my little brother favorite thing i got for him!not anymore.
i too end up just not being able to keep looking at prices.

I got some in Sainsbury's yesterday, £1.37 on offer.

LaMariposa · 03/02/2023 19:49

Everything has gone up so much. We don’t buy snack food any more, can’t justify the cost.

I have a Bother club account (google wearebother) and that gives 15% off their prices.
Ideal for online bulk shopping, particularly branded stuff. 4 cans of tuna in spring water are £2.96 after the discount, and free shipping.
Not everything is cheaper but quite a lot is.

If you want my referral code message me, (£10 off membership) but even without using it I’d still recommend it.

The Trolley app is also good for price comparisons.

Single tin of Heinz Baked Beans with sausages - £2. Asda. I think they are horrible but the GCs like them.

Jar of Loyd Grossman pasta sauce - £4 in Asda. Regular jar, not large jar.

2 X10 sachet packs of Quaker Oat So Simple - £7 generously reduced to £5! I remember when they were £4 for 2 reduced to £3. You can still get a big bag of porridge oats for around a £1. Really grudge paying for flavoured porridge but adult DS likes them when he comes to stay.

The Lloyd Grossman pasta sauce is 2 jars for £2.50 in my local Iceland, assume that is nationwide.

4 rolls of Kitchen roll £8.50 from Asda!

dddxxx · 03/02/2023 19:54

I know this is a value pack, but nearly £8? For fish fingers??? I don’t remember them being that expensive. I used to buy them for my daughter a few years ago and they were no where near as much
