Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/08/2023 15:15

Morning and Happy Sunday. 😄
It's a holiday weekend here for BC Day.
Have had just over 5 hours sleep waking at 5am. A pattern this past week of waking up around 3:30-4:00am, so I guess 5am is improvement. Couldn't fall back asleep after a half hour so put a load of laundry on to wash then started watching vids on YouTube. Got out of bed at 6:30 and put together a blueberry-coconut cake that should be ready in about an hour if anyone wants to pop by for tea/coffee. 😋
Made a cold asian noodle salad with prawns for lunch yesterday; then had boiled new potatoes with fresh dill, chives, grated radish and butter and pan-fried steak for dinner.
Contemplating washing my hair now....
Havoc has now woken up. I can hear toddler chatter, laughing and sound from my lap-top. Better investigate. 🧐

ThunderclapCloud · 07/08/2023 05:57

Oh my goodness @Aria999 not the best week to go to Dorset- especially the distance you travelled! Beautiful county though. We stayed at Lyme Regis once (I dimly recollect reading The French Lieutenant's Woman when I was there - and being distinctly underwhelmed)
Righto - all on the 🚉 ✈ 🚘 to get to @Mumtobabyhavoc for tea 😋

Project blitz going quite well here. Now to keep it this way!
I may clean and rearrange the under sink cupboard today.
Wishing you all well!

SummerLobelia · 07/08/2023 07:06

I am definitely up for blueberry and coconut cake! Glad you had a 'lie in' @Mumtobabyhavoc ... although that is all relative!!

Safe return @Aria999

I have (for a while now) been putting forward a weekend visit ti Lyme Regis with my bookclub due to the French Lieutenant's Woman @ThunderclapCloud ... but no-one else has been enthusiastic! I quite liked the Jeremy Irons Meryl Streep film version in away as I had a big crush on JI for ages.

Thanks everyone for kind words about the pigeon. I think it was shocked too much- falling down the chimney (possibly for a few days) then a chimney sweep brushing coming towards it, then falling the rest of the way and being picked up by humans. Poor little thing. I am cross though that i did not push harder about putting the bird protecting whatsits on though.

I took the weekend off mostly. Just did the daily sort of maintenance stuff. Today though I am opening a bank account with the Yorkshire building society; have a load of washing to do; and need to generally get back to stuff.

Hope everyone has a very good day.

Peridot1 · 07/08/2023 08:01

@ThunderclapCloud - thankfully dog wouldn’t manage the stairs and I’m not carrying 34kg of Labrador up and down so no coming in to my bed for her! We have on occasion slept downstairs on the sofa with her though.

Blueberry and coconut cake sounds delicious @Mumtobabyhavoc!

safe travels @Aria999.

I got everything I needed to do done yesterday and picked up sis and family from Heathrow. Slight sore head this morning after too much wine last night now.

Not sure I will achieve much this week here.

petalpower · 07/08/2023 09:08

Back home today after our trip to family. Will be nice to sleep in my own bed and catch up on jobs. Just worked out we have seen 15 family members since our arrival on Wednesday evening! Both mine and DH family live in the same area so there are lots of people to catch up with.

RunningKatie · 07/08/2023 09:15

Morning all - there's a big yellow ball in the sky. I am drinking coffee with my feet up. Happy days to one and all!

SummerLobelia · 07/08/2023 11:30

I am back from banking duties.

I have told the DCs that they cannot have takeaway again for lunch and will have to make do with a tuna mayo sandwich for lunch - which I am about to get as they are starving apparently.

The gardeners have come so I am delegating garden work today. Grin

I am about to put a load of washing away.

We also have to review the carpet quote which came in at approximately twice what we expected.

@Peridot1 I am not a natural hostess so if i had guests I'd probably be content with just maintaining my equilibrium!! Hope the visit goes really well.

SpiritOfEdna · 07/08/2023 13:58

hello

Busy day here but have managed to make a pillowcase over 2 days!!! Don't know how they manage on Sewing Bee - maybe if I add up all my little increments of bursts of activity it would not be 2 days. Am onto my second one now.
SpiritDoggo is off her food for 2 days now and is moping around - not even tempted by a tiny bit of toast which she normally loves.

Today

  • finish a second pillow case!
  • put away all the sewing stuff when done (biggest challenge)
  • have chased up the damp man as they are due to start tomorrow and no confirmation (or deposit paid)
  • need to take down all the blinds in two bay windows as they get replaced on Thursday and the paint needs to be freshened up and dry before that happens
  • the search for a man with a van continues
That's all for now, will read back shortly to see what is going on in other's worlds. SoE
Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/08/2023 17:24

Just in case anyone feels line baking:

Bowl 1: 2c all-purpose flour, 1 tbsp baking powder. Sift.
Bowl 2: 1c sugar, 2 eggs, 3/4c yoghurt, 1/2c melted butter, 1 tbsp vanilla. Mix well.
Combine bowls, mix until flour disappears only.
Add 1c coconut, 2c blueberries and mix gently. Spoon and spread into greased and floured square pan. (Batter will be quite thick.) Sprinkle some sugar over top.
Bake a 350f for about 70 mins.
Enjoy.
Let me know if you make it and I'll pop over for a sample. 😋😋😋

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/08/2023 00:36

Storage room cleaned and re-organized!!!! Progress! 😄😄😄

ThunderclapCloud · 08/08/2023 06:11

That looks like a lovely straightforward and delicious recipe @Mumtobabyhavoc DH and I are attempting to lose weight but I'm tempted to make it for my mum. It sounds like it probably freezes well ( we started freezing slices of cake because otherwise we are capable of eating it inone sitting two days flat)

Yesterday I rediscovered that if my kitchen smells slightly stale it's because I've forgotten to pull out the stove and clean all around it (see also fridge/freezer) Today I will clean the inside of the oven. I'm actually feeling quite smug now. It feels like a proper 'daily project' project.

You are all doing amazingly well and I love this thread for friendship, accountability and inspiration. Have a great day, all 💕

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/08/2023 06:15

Vacuumed and have got a load of laundry in the wash. Have put away clothes that had previously been hung to dry. Bed as soon as this wash is done and hung up.
😃🥱
Planning on taking recycling to recycling centre tomorrow and pack up/clean out at least one closet.
Feeling like I was on the perimeter of hoarding: I had a bag of styrofoam and cardboard boxes in storage, "just in case" I needed to pack something breakable. 😵‍💫

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/08/2023 06:20

Thunder, yes, easy peasy. I make variations of it all the time. You can make a lovely lemon loaf by grating the zest of a lemon into the sugar and use finger tips to work it through then let sit for 20-30 mins before making recipe. Make a little extra to sprinkle on top. Freezes well.

SummerLobelia · 08/08/2023 08:06

Morning all.

I do like the sound of that cake @Mumtobabyhavoc . I will give it a try!

Being able to sew is one of my secret fantasies. @SpiritOfEdna I never learned. DH is the sew-er in this house... he does all the clothes repairs and nametags. I'd love to be able to make my own clothes. (I put a hyphen into sew-er as otherwise it said 'DH is the sewer' in the house.... and that seemed both untrue and unkind!!!!)

Hope the epic behind the oven clean goes well @ThunderclapCloud !

I was staring out the window thoughtfully earlier and mused I needed to tie in the new growth on the rose arch. Then recalled that this was one of my Daily Project projects! It made me think about everything I have achieved via this thread- which is quite alot really!

Today though I am just trying to get on top of things. I am in a bit of a low emotional patch right now..... so just need to try and nurture myself through it. I am making chicken pie for dinner though so that is something to look forward to! If I get through my washing and ironing pile I will be happy..... and that can all be done with netflix and a glass of wine so all good.

I also miss @FatSealSmugSoup . I loved her stories of living on a remote Isle.

SpiritOfEdna · 08/08/2023 10:30

😃sewer 😃Just need to do the border on the second pillow case and then done; annoyingly the thread kept snapping on the second one, same fabric, same tension, same cotton grrr. I've got a few other projects lined up to do next - all basically sewing in a straight line 😃and ironing. It's a good distraction and keeps my hands busy when I am trying to get back onto my diet and avoid boredom eating.
Today

  • been to the gym this morning
  • damp guy and team turn up today - so whatever they need moving around etc.
  • final sewing on pillow case (just shoved a pillow in the other one and it looks very good)
  • tidy up all sewing stuff, plan next project
Work is busy, so best crack on... Have a good day all, I miss FatSealSmugSoup too, SoE
petalpower · 08/08/2023 15:38

Sorry you’re not feeling so great at the moment @SummerLobelia . Take care of yourself.
Loving hearing about all the sew-ers/sewers! My late mum had a little sewing business later in life. She was tremendously skilled and made my wedding dress and bridesmaids dresses as well as those for other people. Sadly I don’t seem to have inherited her talent.
Today is my birthday so I’ve had lots of lovely birthday presents, cards and messages. Out with DD and DH for dinner later. Builder and plumber are here working on our new extension and DH is up another ladder but cutting the hedge this time instead of fixing the roof. I’ve been trying to get on top of jobs after our few days away and have:

  • been to aquafit class
  • posted two eBay parcels
  • filled my car up with diesel
  • been to the butchers and greengrocers
  • bought a replacement rose for the new watering can which DH had broken
  • dropped into the vets to enquire about tartar/plaque stuff for Petaldog’s back teeth as mentioned by the vet last week and made purchase
  • finally sorted out a slightly complicated financial thing for care home auntie
  • contacted the accountant (again) about useless HMRC and my missing tax rebate
I am planning on doing very little for the rest of the day apart from take the dog for a walk and choose something suitable to wear for my birthday dinner. It is rather grey here and I think we might get a spot of rain later.
Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/08/2023 15:41

Hello Summer, sending you a bit of love. 💐
Sometimes puttering at home and making a good meal are what we need. Let me know how the cake works out!

Sewing... funny it's mentioned. During lockdown I spent a lot of time googling courses I might be interested in and I saved two sites that offer sewing lessons! Haven't done it yet, though.

Was up at 6 today. Havoc woke shortly after and I was not able to coax going back to sleep. Ugh. So, towels in the wash and day is on. Also need to clean oven again, although it's not too bad, so is lower in my list.

How soup is ok. @FatSealSmugSoup

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/08/2023 15:43

💖💖💖Happy Birthday, Petal💖💖💖

ThunderclapCloud · 08/08/2023 16:07

Happy birthday @petalpower 🎂 🎈 🥂 (i tried to do a present emoji but I got something that resembled an amazon parcel which I thought wasn't quite in the spirit)

Awww big projecty hugs for you @SummerLobelia I hope a potter and a chicken pie do the trick!

I have been very busy today. We've already had rain. I think it might be doing it again now too 😔

Busy with work and a mum errand and making sure the kitchen continues to sparke. The soup has kept us going and I've avoided junk food for 9 days!! Just need to do inside oven and must book dentist appointment too.

I'm vaguely starting to think about Christmas, purely because mother's fretting about who she'll see (everyone, it looks like, but I'll be project manager I think) And also I was in local town today and spotted gifty things. We keep it minimal round these parts so I'm thinking of doing some mind mapping and get the gifts sorted sooner rather than later. Also I love a bit of stationery so it gives me an excuse to use it!

Loving the damp and sewer guys 😂

SummerLobelia · 08/08/2023 16:38

Happy Birthday @petalpower !! 💐

SummerLobelia · 09/08/2023 08:02

Morning all!

I need to plot christmas also- the gift giving bit anyway as I need to give gifts to family abroad and inevitably forget about it.

Today

  • send gift to godchild in Australia
  • send flowers to godchild's mother as she is 50 this week
  • tidy up bathroom as DH installed a new cabinet yesterday and there is dust everywhere.
Hope everyone has a good day!
petalpower · 09/08/2023 11:56

Lovely birthday dinner out last night. Today is also our wedding anniversary!
Today I need to:

  • go for a blood test
  • post another eBay parcel
  • visit auntie at the care home
  • arrange my birthday flowers
  • sort the onions I’ve harvested and dried
RunningKatie · 09/08/2023 12:29

Happy belated birthday @petalpower

Glorious sunshine here, makes such a change, I've had breakfast outside and everything!

SpiritOfEdna · 09/08/2023 13:57

Happy birthday @petalpower

Here we are financing xmas by doing the 'penny a day' thing and then swapping the money for gift cards/supermarket cards; it's working thus far. Next year might do it the other way round and start with the 365 pennies and go backwards :-)
It was very noisy here yesterday with walls being taken back to brick - it's much quieter here today - but with lots of dust in the air.
Today

  • sold another top on Vinted - it's been up a while, so will get it posted today
  • Put some more clothes up on Vinted - I have the photos just couldn't be bothered before
  • plan a deep clean of the house once the wall has been replastered - dust has settled everywhere despite things being covered. We seem to get straight after one piece of work done and then it all goes pear shaped. We are however, getting rid of stuff as we go along.
  • Do a load of washing while weather is nice
  • Postpone a meal out tomorrow and rearrange for next week - DONE
That's all for now, this has been sitting on my screen all morning, SoE, have a good day all.
