Morning all.

Hope your return to work goes well @ThunderclapCloud

Wet and windy here as well. I'll resist namechanging though. Grin

Peridot1 · 02/08/2023 09:24

I am SO sick of this weather! Wet and dreary here. Again!

I didn’t do my house stuff yesterday as ended up going to garden centre with DH to look at fire pits. Personally I think an ark would be a better buy at this stage with all the rain.

I did cut the edges in the back garden and did a bit of tidying.

Today’s list:

  • general tidy up of downstairs as cleaners are in today
  • tidy spare room for cleaners to clean and make up beds
  • tidy my room
  • Sort kitchen cupboards
  • clear out fridge
  • do a load of laundry

The sun is attempting to come out here now so fingers crossed!

SummerLobelia · 02/08/2023 10:08

I am doing a pre-cleaners tidy here as well!

petalpower · 02/08/2023 13:13

Me saying that Petaldog is a straightforward chap has come back to bite me on the bum and cost me lots of money at an inconvenient time! On Friday I thought he had a seed in his ear so took him to the vets as he was doing a lot of head shaking and pawing at his ear. No immediate sign but he was very wriggly when being examined and they could only look so far. Advised to bring him back to be sedated to check more thoroughly if symptoms continued. All good until last night when DD noticed his ear was a bit yucky (spaniel so not immediately obvious due to the long ears!). Taken him back today and he’s been sedated and a big seed taken out. We travel to 3 hours family tonight so hope he’s ok in the car. Estimated cost £350-450 when I spoke to the vet this morning. Bracing myself for the bill and wondering whether it’s worth claiming on pet insurance or whether that will just cause the premium to go up?

Peridot1 · 02/08/2023 13:25

Ouch @petalpower. We have insurance and claim everything so just end up paying the excess. I’d claim it.

RunningKatie · 02/08/2023 13:36

Definitely in the thick of the holidays @ThunderclapCloud - not long till we go away, I'm so ready for a break. Shame the weather's looking like Autumn.
Hope you're properly on the mend @Mumtobabyhavoc
Not much to report here, i've had inches lopped off my hair. I usually have it longer over the summer to protect my neck and shoulders, chopped in the winter. I've gone short a month early in the hope that this means the weather picks up! I'll take a bit of sunburn if it stops the rain.

SummerLobelia · 03/08/2023 07:22

Ouch @petalpower hope poor ddog is okay!

Hope you are fine as well @Mumtobabyhavoc

I am out of inspiration for the holidays @RunningKatie .... already

Our wonderful cleaner is here.

I have ALOT of clothes to sort today. Charity shop bags beckon.

Peridot1 · 03/08/2023 08:46

Morning all.

There is a funny light in the sky this morning. It may be sunshine! Although judging by the clouds it will be short lived.

Yesterday I sorted the spare room and got that cleaned and semi ready for my sister. I need to find our light weight single duvets today to make up the single beds. Will need to sort the small spare bedroom for my niece too - our “lodger” stays there and it has all of his stuff in at the moment. Hoping he comes tonight and he can pack his things into DS’s room. He is a friend of DS and stays once a week but there are train strikes this week so he may not make it tonight.

I also did a bit of a clear out of kitchen drawers and a cupboard. A bit more to do in that area but it’s better than it was. DH’s overflow system is a pain and annoyed me so I’ve re jigged a few things.

I could do with sorting some clothes too @SummerLobelia.

Today’s list:

  • find summer weight single duvets
  • sort kitchen messy drawer
  • change a bed
  • ironing

Hope your hair cut improves the weather @RunningKatie!

SpiritOfEdna · 03/08/2023 11:43

morning, @petalpower poor doggo. SpiritDoggo is at the groomers currently with a coat full of sand, seeds and burrs. She will be getting a good old cut - she is very matted even though we were keeping on top of it.
Today

  • 'damp man' came yesterday - so the lovely new radiator in the hall will have to be taken off, the lovely new painted wall will have to be replastered/repainted because we have damp along the wall and some timber rot underneath the stairs which all needs to be sorted out. Today have chased for timescales of when the work can be done, but also getting another quote on Monday.
  • need to fetch SpiritDoggo back from groomers in an hour
  • Sort a pile of clothes that is on my bed to put back in the wardrobe - new blinds/shutters are being fitted next week, so it'd be good to have a nice tidy room when they are done.
  • the living room is an unholy mess of holiday stuff and things that need tidying away so the goal is to get that done today in between work tasks in my usual 5 minute bursts.
  • I need to get back on track with my diet - I tend to follow a 16:8 fast window but post holiday is proving difficult. If I target this evening to start the 16 hour fast bit that will kick start me off
That's it for today, have a good day, SoE
SummerLobelia · 03/08/2023 11:51

The clothing sort has been put on hold for a Heartstopper Season 2 binge-athon.

Love Heartstopper. I have promised the DCs I will make beouf bourgignon for dinner as it featured in an episode. (Anything to try and encourage DS1 to eat.... )

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/08/2023 18:11

Hello lovelies. Thank you for the well wishes. 💖
Recovering here. This bout seems to be less intense in duration. First week was the worst. Still lacking taste/smell. Fingers crossed for no relapse. 🤞
Have got a few major tasks to start once up to it, but cannot procrastinate. Need to set date for new flooring and decide if I'm going to tackle refurbishing kitchen cupboard doors and counter myself, including new sink (have purchased new faucet), or hire out. Have got quote but am reluctant to spend the money. Counter I want is too expensive atm so would settle for cheaper version or cheaper material. Unsure which way to go.

petalpower · 04/08/2023 00:24

Petaldog is recovering well after his trip to the vets. He is minus a large grass seed and I am minus £300.
First day of trip north to family completed.
visit to auntie for lunch ✔️ (my lovely mum’s sister not the care home auntie!)
seen one of my stepbrothers who is staying tonight at dad and stepmothers ✔️
had drinks with lovely friends (old school friend of DH and his wife) ✔️
Waves to everyone on the thread. Too tired for individual messages.

Peridot1 · 04/08/2023 07:41

Lots of decisions to make @Mumtobabyhavoc. Glad you are feeling better though.

@petalpower - glad dog is doing ok. Enjoy your trip. Sounds lovely so far.

I actually achieved two major things from yesterday’s list! The kitchen messy drawer AND the ironing! I have one item left to iron which is a pair of linen trousers of DH which I hate ironing. They were a crumpled mess so I’ve rewashed them this morning and they are hanging carefully and I will iron while still very damp. And then ban him from wearing! But the ironing basket is empty!!!!

Today’s list:

  • wrap DS’s birthday presents for tomorrow
  • find summer single duvets
  • make up single beds
  • laundry
  • tidy my bedroom

Have a great day all.

SummerLobelia · 05/08/2023 06:38

Morning all. Hope you continue to feel a bit better @Mumtobabyhavoc and get over this truly awful experience. Thanks

Poor petaldog!

Our immediate task is to get a pigeon out of our chimney. Our chimney has a brick in the middle that prevents birds falling all the way down it. This is now the third time a bird has got stuck. The first and second time I got a chimney sweep in to gently lift the bird out. The second time DH bought from a second hand tool auction his own chimney sweep brushes and now we have to use them. Each time I have suggested we put a bird protector on the chimney but both chimney sweep and DH said 'Oh it will never happen again'.... Hmm

After we get the poor thing out hopefully unharmed I am calling a company to put a bird protector thingie on the chimney pot.

SummerLobelia · 05/08/2023 07:16

Pigeon rescue task completed. 🐦

ThunderclapCloud · 05/08/2023 07:42

Best wishes to all the project doggies! We have had situations with seeds getting where they shouldn't as well (paws and eyes in our pets' cases) It's never cheap is it?

Poor old pigeon @SummerLobelia Well done for rescuing it. Pigeons don't seem to be that sensible about where they nest in my experience.

Our gutters probably need cleaning. We had a leaflet round but DH quite convinced its ne'er do wells wanting a gander through our windows. But he's agreed that we could go through Proper Channels and get them done.
Hoping the rain holds off so we (ok he!) can mow the lawn. I'm weeder-in-chief and have held up my end of the bargain 😇

Today is the day I take car through the car wash. Will hoover it out too. I also need to make some smug soup and clean the fridge so that's the day's excitement sorted.

I hope you are all similarly thrilled by your plans for the weekend 😂 💐

Peridot1 · 05/08/2023 11:10

Morning all.

bloody miserable here today. Dog is crossing her legs as doesn’t like the rain so hasn’t been out yet.

I got DH’s trousers ironed yesterday so I have NO ironing! Yay!

Have beds semi sorted for sis and family arriving tomorrow. Need to finish today.

Today’s tasks:

  • Wrap DS’s presents which should have been done yesterday (done)
  • Supermarket shop for a few things
  • possible charity shop drop
  • Make brownies for DS
  • Brush dog
  • vacuum
  • finish beds
  • laundry (one load in currently)
  • put some pictures up on landing
  • find a home for the books on the table which I moved from the floor of the study

Have a good day all

petalpower · 05/08/2023 12:27

Still away on the family visit so not achieving anything house/life wise on top. Yesterday I took my dad to visit his brother who is pretty ill with COPD and on constant oxygen. Caught up with my cousin who lives there part of the week and alternates with my other cousin as my uncle needs 24 hour care. Had a family dinner out last night for my brother’s birthday. Today we move on to the in-laws! Petaldog seems none the worse for his ear seed and is back to full bouncy mode.

SummerLobelia · 05/08/2023 19:55

Sadly little LobeliaPigeon died this afternoon. We put it in a safe place we could visually monitor and it seemd to be doing quite well, but did not make it.

I feel very sorrowful.

petalpower · 05/08/2023 20:11

RIP little LobeliaPigeon. Maybe the shock of human contact was just too much for it.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/08/2023 20:18

Summer, sorry about little pidgy. I struggle with feelings for helpless little beings, too. 💐
Petal, glad to hear doggo is better. What's this about an ear seed?????
Peridot, accomplishments for you!!!!

It's nice to read everyone's happenings. 🥰
I'm still improving!!!! I think smell has miraculously gotten better over night! I just noticed I don't smell "heat", so fingers crossed as it has been driving me absolutely insane for two weeks. Have been checking toaster, oven, heat controls etc constantly as convinced something must be on. Havoc has eaten well so far today and has just gone down for a nap. So glad dc's appetite is better!!!!

I've got a load of laundry in the wash and have wiped bathroom sink, counter snd mirror with vinegar. Similarly wiped down kitchen yesterday as was prompted by netflix doc I was watching about contaminated food in the states. I think it was called, Poisoned. Worth a watch. There is a bit of a concern here as well as a bacteria has turned up in some of our produce that is not common here, so have been extra careful washing fresh fruit/veg by rinsing, soaking in vinegar/water mix, then rinsing and wiping well. God knows last thing my household needs is another illness...

Off to hang clothes to dry and wash sheets.
BTW, made a lovely cold asian noodle salad adding sautéed prawns for dinner yesterday. Will post recipe if anyone wants inspo.
need to get moving; news is doing doc on a serial killer recently caught in states - chilling, and I've seen enough. 🫣

Peridot1 · 06/08/2023 07:17

Morning all.

up early with whiny dog today. Woke up at 3 anyway so hope I manage to get back to bed for a nap in a bit!

I didn’t get everything on my list done yesterday so some has moved to today.

  • one bed to make up and quick tidy of room
  • move charity stuff from hall to garage as didn’t get to drop yesterday
  • vacuum - battery on Dyson keeps running out of charge
  • general tidy
  • tidy and clean kitchen
  • airport pick up run

Sorry about the pigeon @SummerLobelia. We had a dead bird on Friday. They fly into one of our kitchen windows for some reason. Some just stun themselves but occasionally one dies.

@Mumtobabyhavoc - contaminated food and bacteria sounds worrying. Might have a look at that programme.

Happy Sunday all.

ThunderclapCloud · 06/08/2023 11:13

Hello! Poor little pigeon 😔 I'd be sorrowful too @SummerLobelia You did your absolutely best though and hopefully can prevent it in the future 💐

ThunderclapCloud · 06/08/2023 11:41

Hope you're having a good time with the family @petalpower though seems you have your hands full! Pleased Petaldog is back to his bouncy self!

We ended up with our aged ailing (fortunately small) dog in bed with us for several weeks @Peridot1 It was the only way he'd settle. Much like co sleeping with babies (we did that too!) I feel your pain with the early wakings!

Loss of smell feels really odd, doesn't it, @Mumtobabyhavoc. Pleased you're mainly feeling better and please don't overdo it! I'm bad with washing fruit and veg. I must start!

Little blitz going on here today as the sun's come out but it's not too hot. We have people staying for a couple of days next week and I want it shiny and smelling all fresh. I really worry about fusty smells due to still having the same carpets we had when the doggies were ailing. Not replacing till the ancient cat has left us, though they've been shampooed and are hoovered frequently. My nearest and dearest tell me the house isn't smelly but I fret about nose blindness. So I'm making sure!!

I'm simultaneously making green soup as we have a glut of greenery. Lawn didn't get mown as it rained all morning yesterday (can't say I'm disappointed as we needed it) Hopefully it will happen today!
👋 @RunningKatie and @SpiritOfEdna and @Aria999 and any lurkers who would be welcome to join us 💕

Aria999 · 06/08/2023 14:12

Hi everyone sorry about radio silence. Been traveling so my normal strategy of checking phone in bed while drinking coffee doesn't work because the DC are immediately awake, bored, and desperate for breakfast.

I have done nothing useful recently except navigate what Dorsey has to offer when it's raining, supervise the kids in the pool
and eat too much ice cream.

Flying back Tuesday, after which normal life will hopefully resume.

Sorry the pigeon died @SummerLobelia
