Good afternoon! (Or is it evening?)

I have had an exceptionally productive day. I decided that I would view housekeeping today as my job. So I started at 9 am and had a lunch break (cue 2 episodes of the IT crowd which DS1 has just discovered and I am succumbing to) and then I stopped at 5 pm.

The house is very sorted. The carpet fitters came and we have made plans for what needs to be moved etc before they fit. I also sorted a whole bunch of banking; paid for DS1's Year 9 trip that happens at the start of the next term; perused some outdoor garden trellised mirrors for the dark corner of our garden to place over the ugly binstore and generally Did Stuff.

The Dcs might be having instant noodles for dinner, but other than that I am on fire!

Hope everyone had a great day. Smile

ThunderclapCloud · 26/07/2023 20:02

I love Greek yogurt @SummerLobelia Breakfast most days here. You've done really well today. Go you!!
I'm quite pleased with my almost tidy house. Work went smoothly and now I'm awaiting a plateful of the bolognaise I made yesterday. Good old DH is in charge of organising it because he finished work long before me (even though I had the morning off!)

Eating in front of the telly and watching Timothy Spall in The Sixth Commandment. It's so sad (especially as it's true 😔)

petalpower · 27/07/2023 20:00

How did you get on with the dr@Mumtobabyhavoc ? I’m quite worried at how unwell you sound and how long this has been going on for.
Well done for your super productive day @SummerLobelia . Very impressive!
I took note of your advice @ThunderclapCloud and sat with my feet up for a bit and the dog joined me on the sofa too. A bit too heavy to sit on my lap as he’s rather solidly built! I’m trying to switch off from worries when I can.
DH has increased the danger factor by getting a roof ladder as well as the scaffolding so he’s now right up on the top of the roof. I’m trying not to look when he’s up there as it’s mildly terrifying.
We’re going away next week for a few days to visit both sets of parents so today I’ve been contacting other bits of the family to sort out visiting them too. Also had a lovely lunch with a friend and did an online shop.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/07/2023 20:50

Hi Petal. Thanks for your concern. This bout seems a bit easier as I am feeling better. Still coughing deeply and uncontrollably, but appetite is back. Sitting with a big bowl of pasta for lunch atm and Havoc is also eating now. It's been so rough, though. Barely well before catching it again. I really wish people would stay home/wear masks if ill. It would sure help.
Doctor just gave guidelines for going to hospital. I'm slightly immune compromised right now so she said the bar is lower to seek medical attention. She also said there's no way to know who will get complications as virus is largely unpredictable and systemic. All things I knew. I'm just glad we are able to eat even if (I can't fully taste yet.).

petalpower · 27/07/2023 21:14

Thanks for the update @Mumtobabyhavoc . Glad to hear your appetite is back and BabyHavoc is improving too. Just don’t do too much during your recovery and listen to your body.

SummerLobelia · 28/07/2023 06:25

Thanks @Mumtobabyhavoc

I agree with @petalpower please do listen to your body. I know that being unwell can be so frustrating and it is tempting to do too much though.

very best of luck. ❤

ThunderclapCloud · 28/07/2023 07:54

Adding to the chorus of 'take care of yourself' @Mumtobabyhavoc Glad you're eating now, though 💐 And havoc of course. Really tough being ill at the same time as babies. * *

@petalpower I'm wincing at the thought of your DH on the roof! Mine has similar notions about our shed roof. He really doesn't like heights but insists on doing these things anyway. He comes over all Manly bless him. I've been on MN long enough to feel slightly ashamed at my willingness to let him do the Man Jobs, but he's determined, and I'm never going to do it. I'd get someone in (probably a Man, hence DH's problem with it 😂) < not because of being a jealous type, she says hastily, but suspect he doesn't want some young buck showing up his 60 ish self.

I am pleased to report that I've swept and mopped my kitchen floor two days running. It makes such a difference. I'd got our home clean and uncluttered in a year of working very part time when DH worked out of the house. Then various family members did some boomeranging and have left stuff here, DH is still WFH after covid - nobody on his team went back, so he's cluttering up the place with his work stuff, and I'm working longer hours and helping mother more. When i first joined @SummerLobelia threads I was all oh I wiped down my light switches...because genuinely not much else to do!
Today is the day i get my act together and start rebuilding my habits.

I have a new notebook for my lists 💪

Best wishes to you all!

Peridot1 · 28/07/2023 07:59

@Mumtobabyhavoc - glad you spoke to the doctor and are feeling marginally better. I know it’s tempting to try to keep on as normal but you really need to rest as much as you can to give your body a chance to recover.

@ThunderclapCloud - we have just watched The Sixth Commandment too and found it excellent. But also incredibly sad. There is also a Channel 4 documentary on the case which we watched last night. It’s called Catching A Killer - A Diary from the Grave.

Hope everything else is ok and surviving parents, children, holidays etc.

SummerLobelia · 28/07/2023 09:43

ooh a notebook for lists!

I am always up for a new notebook. Great idea @ThunderclapCloud Smile

I think the first ever task I ever did as a daily project was I put a lightbulb into an old lamp I was going to charity shop and put it on our hall table.

That lamp is used every single day, and certainly was the start of a slippery slope of achievements!!

ThunderclapCloud · 28/07/2023 11:37

@SummerLobelia these threads have made a lovely difference to my life. It's a bit like a knit and natter group in a way - getting something done with just a bit of chit chat thrown in ☺

There is an ongoing thread in chat about notebooks. It's also the sort of thread I enjoy. I love a good notebook but have tended to be at a loss about what to write in them. Quite a lot of inspiration on there about that. There's also some excitement on there about different types of pens and inks. I live such an exciting life 😂

I occasionally really love mumsnet. A thread about driving on motorway got me inspired to stop being a wet blanket about them (for me it's all about the slip roads) and I've found some excellent YouTube videos by a driving instructor which I have subscribed to. I drive many miles in a week but we are in a motorway free area so for me it doesn't come up on day to day journeys.

@Peridot1 how is your lovely dog?

Hope all the on holiday children are having fun and giving their parents an easy time of it.And hope @SpiritOfEdna is having great hols too!

Thinking of @FatSealSmugSoup and hoping she's ok and just got bored of our company 💕

Peridot1 · 28/07/2023 12:13

I love a nice notebook too. Have a few I must use. DH got me two last Christmas. One is a cleaning check list. And the other is for Procrastinators. I’ve no idea what he is getting at!

@ThunderclapCloud dog is a bit better but definitely not back to normal. Still a bit confused at times. Whines a lot. Sometimes can go in and out the door by herself and sometimes not. There is a step and sometimes she is ok,and other times she needs to be on the lead. Seems to have mouth issues and won’t eat anything hard. But is still eating. She is at the vet on Monday for her monthly injection and a check over with the vet. I think she’s a bit fed up really.

I worry about @FatSealSmugSoup too. Hope she is ok.

SpiritOfEdna · 28/07/2023 13:17

Morning - hope everyone is well! Am back and in work and wondering why I have not booked today off as it has been hectic but I’ve managed to:

  • speak to a damp person about the damp under the stairs and contacted another one in case they can do a survey any quicker
  • speak to the door/window man about when he can come and do the door window replacements
  • organise a replacement tyre for my car this morning. Thankfully I was driving a hire car to Norfolk.
  • paid bills
  • out tonight for a sibling birthday dinner but need to be back on the diet asap
Norfolk was lovely, spiritdoggo loved being on the beaches even in the rain, it was very quiet and the cottage was lovely - ate too much, drank too much but zero regrets 🤣 Hope all dogs, dads are safe and well and all poorly posters get well soon,SoE
ThunderclapCloud · 29/07/2023 06:32

Is your cleaning checklist gathering dust, or lying open on the kitchen table so DH knows what needs to be done, @Peridot1 ?
I used a lovely old unused ring binder to make a flylady control journal yesterday. I'm hardcore 😎
Pleased your dog is on the up. Not much fun getting old for anyone really 😔

Norfolk beaches with a dog in the rain, and a cosy cottage with fine food and ale sounds like bliss, @SpiritOfEdna And you've certainly hit the ground running on your return!

Saturday once again. The year is flying by! I'm pleased with what I achieved yesterday. If the next two days go to plan I may get my home and routines organised once and for all (ever the optimist!)

Meal planning next on the list. DH and I have both got a little too comfortable with a bit of weight gain. We had a last hurrah last nught and went out for supper at a nice local restaurant (we dressed it up as date night but in reality neither of us could be bothered to cook) But my decision regarding what to wear was informed by what will comfortably go round my expanding middle. Bit of a Moment for me, so I intend to do something about it!

Have a lovely weekend everyone 😊

ThunderclapCloud · 30/07/2023 06:46

Morning! I seem to have got into the habit of waking early even on days off, so am making the most of it!

Have showered, done stretches, coffee, wordle, mopped kitchen floor and put a wash on 💪

My beloved took two parcels to the post office for me yesterday. All because I left them with something he needed to send back. I have a real block about going to the post office.

My project today is to tackle a small mountain of books and paper that has formed on the floor by my bed. And do something about my kitchen windowsill as it's become a dumping ground. I might even sort out the larder and see what we've got, and do menus.

That's a lot of excitement for one day!

I hope also to go for a walk by the sea ( with or without DH, but hopefully with)

Hope you're all having a lovely weekend x

Peridot1 · 30/07/2023 07:10

Good morning @ThunderclapCloud. I’m up early these days too but not a productive as you! Just drinking tea and have done Wordle. And fed the dog.

Village clean up this morning so am on litter picking duty at 9.

Just looking at the sun shine through our very grubby French doors so might get the Karcher out this afternoon and clean them. Also have to book flights to Dublin for DS and I. And a list of things I need to get done this week.

Have a good day all.

RunningKatie · 30/07/2023 14:30

Happy Sunday all, second weekend of the summer holidays, neither dc is dressed! Situation pretty standard then.
DH went out for a very long day yesterday, whilst he was gone I pottered around the house doing random cleaning jobs - he actually said this morning that he could see I'd done loads. I was quite staggered as usually a lot of effort makes minimal difference.
I originally joined these threads because I'm so fed up of having to hide "stuff" when family come over, which is rare but I cannot keep on top of the paperwork and general day to day clutter. I'm not saying I've got this sussed at all, but actually the house does look a bit better now.
If everyone could just move out and leave me here then there's a chance it would stay that way!

SummerLobelia · 31/07/2023 07:54

Morning all.

I also think that if everyone (but me) moved out of the house it would be a great deal easier to keep on top of!

Today is a day for catching up on washing.

Peridot1 · 31/07/2023 08:06

I so agree @RunningKatie and @SummerLobelia! When I was back and forth to my Dad’s house last year it was great as everything stayed as it was as I was the only one there.

So I didn’t do the windows yesterday. Or book flights. So today is an admin day as I have a few things to do and I might do the windows. I have also started sorting out my hoard of beauty products so I will continue with a bit of that. Also need to order some things for DS’s birthday. And take the dog to the vet this morning.

Also have my sister and her family coming to stay for five days on Sunday so need to get organised for that.

Have a great day all.

ThunderclapCloud · 31/07/2023 08:19

Morning! 👋 fellow wordler! It's the first thing I do every day. Dh and I alternate choosing the first word and then compete, which adds to the fun (simple pleasures 😊)
Go you, doing the litter pick. I've never done a formal one but will pick up what I see round our way. Most of it in my road is what gets dropped on bin day. One my (full) recycling bin got blown over and it was all over my opposite neighbour's garden and halfway down the road. That was embarrassing- chasing it down!

@RunningKatie I used to love those occasional pyjama mornings! And well done on your noticeable difference! My nest really only got tidy when my kids all flew, I was part time and DH was out all day. It's still not a show home but 15 minutes will usually have it sorted in an emergency!

Today's project is lounge. I'm sitting here looking at a badminton racquet and and umbrella leaning against the wall, clean washing in a basket on sofa, a map and pile of cards and my 33 year old son's christening mug (tarnished) on windowsill. General grot belonging to DH on table one end of sofa, pile of books, kindle, half opened amazon package on table 'my' end, and a football and box of batteries for recycling on the floor. Two pairs of shoes and a board game, plus a fair bit of dust. Laptop and yoga mat ( both rarely used) on a chair. Oh and old box of covid tests and a paper bag full of papers.

It's all sort of contained but none of it needs to be in here. We've got blind to it, so today is the day it is all found a proper home, or discarded appropriately.

Off to get on with it. Have a lovely day everyone, and carry on the good work!

ThunderclapCloud · 31/07/2023 08:23

Crossed posted with everyone! Happy laundry day @SummerLobelia and I hope the kids are enjoying the holidays still 😊

Hope vet appt goes well @Peridot1 All such a worry! (I also meant to tag you in previous post but it was obviously for you)

SpiritOfEdna · 31/07/2023 15:06

Another Wordler here 🤣 6am and a cup of coffee and the Guardian crossword. Already crossed some things of my list today

  • reunited a lost cat with its owner - we sheltered it overnight as he had parked himself in our alleyway all day. Funny thing is the owner lives on our street but we found her through SM
  • fixed a coat stand
  • gone back to fasting after the carnage of holiday eating 🤣 zero regrets
  • cleaned up the yard of plant debris - it’s blowing a gale here
  • found the foot of my sewing machine so I can get sewing
  • Need to clear off dining room table so can do said sewing
  • am looking at all my wet washing on the line and wondering if I need to re wash or just shove in the dryer
  • I need to find a wo/man with a van to get rid of stuff that can’t fit in my car…
That’s all for today, SoE
Mumtobabyhavoc · 31/07/2023 22:06

Got dressed today! 🤗
Wiped fridge out with vinegar; two loads laundry; made pasta with prawns for lunch; and have got a blueberry lemon loaf in the oven. Still no sense of smell and taste is off, but appetite is back and am coughing much less and much less deeply now. Hoping this bout of covid is winding up. Can't take much more, really. 🤞

ThunderclapCloud · 01/08/2023 06:36

Morning! Glad things are improving but please continue to take care of yourself @Mumtobabyhavoc!

All very productive @SpiritOfEdna Well done you!

I've put a wash on. I'm quite pleased with what I achieved yesterday. Lounge is now free of things that shouldn't be in it. I think I'll give it a big clean over the next couple of days, then think about making a few changes @SummerLobelia style with lamps, rugs etc.

As soon as I get my flow going with routines round the house, I find myself with time to do things and feel a bit more creative.

@Peridot1 how did it go at the vet? And did you get the flights booked? @petalpower I hope things are going as smoothly as possible for you 💕

@RunningKatie are you coping with the holidays/work/weather? Morning @Aria999 hope all is well. Not seen you for a while 🤗

I also need to do something about the state of my car. I feel a list coming on!

Have a lovely day everyone 💐

Peridot1 · 01/08/2023 08:51

Morning all.

Glad you are feeling a bit better @Mumtobabyhavoc. Don’t try to do too much too quickly yet though!

@ThunderclapCloud - vet appointment was her monthly injection with a bit of a check over after the vestibular issue. She is doing ok. Still a bit confused at times and needs help getting up and down the step out into the garden and didn’t like getting in and out of the car but she’s not too bad. Except she is doing my head in by whining constantly for treats. Or to be taken out. Or just because.

I did book the flights so that’s done.

Keeping the place tidy and getting things into the right places is never ending isn’t it? Good luck with your cleaning of your now tidy lounge.

@SpiritOfEdna - you always seem to get loads done!

Today I need to:

  • Do a rough menu plan for next week when my sis etc is here and finish my Ocado order.
  • washing
  • tidy spare bedroom to get it ready for sis etc
  • clear out my shoe cupboards in the hall - all gotten a bit messy!
  • some tidying in my bedroom which is also a bit messy
  • possibly cut lawn edges

Thats quite enough I think!

Have a good day all.

ThunderclapCloud · 02/08/2023 06:20

Morning all! Back to work today after a lovely few days off. Not impressed as I was really on a roll. But I'll settle back I know.

Thamk you @Peridot1 😊

Today i plan to keep on top of what I've achieved, and book some appointments for self and pets.
Wild and windy here and feeling more like March!
