Just popping in quickly to say hi. Setting off to DD’s graduation later - it’s tomorrow but too far to travel in a day staying with PIL on the way tonight.
Sorry to hear about your dog @Peridot1 . Animals (and dogs in particular) are such an integral part of the family.
Everything very busy here. Supporting adult DS who is job hunting and needing a bit of mum TLC. In other excitement (of the sort you could really do without) my dad (82 and early stages of Alzheimer’s) disappeared on Sunday night after a disagreement. The police were called in the end as he’d been gone for over two hours and it had got dark and was late. Fortunately he was brought back at about 11pm by some people who had found him wandering and disoriented. We were beside ourselves as you can imagine. I’m nearly 3 hours drive away so just had to sit and wait for news. Feeling like jam in the sandwich again as @ThunderclapCloud and I have discussed previously!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/07/2023 14:57

Petal, that's quite frightening about your dad. How are things looking today?
Peridot, funny you should ask... Have had a cough getting increasingly worse since Monday/Tuesday. Last night and this morning congestion. Feeling very tired. I had barely gone a week feeling like I was over being sick.
Havoc started a light cough last night as well.
I feel like crying. I've/we've been sick since May 9. I don't know if it's a relapse, another bout of covid, or something else. It's just been so rapid over night. 😢🤷‍♀️

SpiritOfEdna · 20/07/2023 15:31

hope peridoggo is comfortable in a favourite spot @Peridot1

I am on my last day of work before I go on holiday and as ever, everything is SUPERURGENTCRAZY
Today

  • wait in for joiner to come and pick up his tools. The stairs did not get done, as as he went to investigate he could smell damp and there is evidence of woodworm. Have contacted a damp man to come and check out the damp - but will have to be done when back next week.
  • have picked up hire car - it's very quiet compared to my diesel but it's a more comfortable car; but I need to get used to driving it. Must remember to put petrol in it :-)
  • need to drop a spare set of keys with other local sibling
  • get my clothes ready and art stuff and books I am taking
  • prep some briefing/status docs for meetings I won't be in for next week.
  • out for dinner tonight - need to find some clothes to wear.
That's all for today, SoE
petalpower · 20/07/2023 23:27

Everyone seems in complete denial that this could all happen again @Mumtobabyhavoc . I’ve been finding out about tracking devices that might help in the future. All a bit scary but we have to take things a step at a time.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/07/2023 01:58

Petal, very worrisome. I feel for you; it's so difficult having an aging parent with health challenges.

ThunderclapCloud · 21/07/2023 07:51

Oh @petalpower how worrying and upsetting! I find denial from all sides a feature in caring for older relatives. It makes it even more difficult than it already is. I'm currently seeing it from both sides due to my own mother being on the slippery slope, and in my work. I am so glad he was found safe!

@Mumtobabyhavoc sounds like you might have long covid. A friend of mine is suffering the same sort of thing and her GP says long covid, even though she had it very mildly and only really knew about it due to regular testing for her job. I hope things turn around for you soon!

Have a great holiday @SpiritOfEdna and hope you had a nice dinner last night!

@SummerLobelia hope your trip away is great as well!

@Peridot1 thinking of you and doggy today 💐

@RunningKatie I hope you got a decent rest.

School holidays start today round these parts today. I used to view the long holiday with mixed feelings. Couldn't wait to have the children home but by week 5 had run out of steam and counting down the days till they went back!

👋 to anyone I've forgotten!

Going to do a reset round the place today. Have the whole day to myself at home which is rare. Seems a bit fresher out so that feels more comfortable.

ThunderclapCloud · 21/07/2023 07:57

@Aria999! Sorry I knew I'd missed someone! Hope you're well 👋

Peridot1 · 21/07/2023 09:34

@petalpower - that sounds really worrying. So glad he was found safe.

@ThunderclapCloud - I’m amazed how late the holidays seem to be starting this year. All of my sisters’s children have been off since beginning of June in Ireland! I was expecting schools here to finish last week as I thought it was usually mid July.

Another night on the sofa here for me. Although a bit of an improvement in her managing the step in and out of the house today. She’s gotten very fussy with food too.

@Mumtobabyhavoc - it does sound like it could be long covid.

RunningKatie · 21/07/2023 20:48

@Peridot1 - thought of you and ddog earlier, we've just been on a group walk and were joined by a 15 year old hound, deaf as a post and has just had a vestibular attack. His owner said he was much better on walks than in the house, but he didn't come along for long.
I did get some rest thank you @ThunderclapCloud but I've been an absolute nightmare to live with this week, knackered and either raging or crying. Dh luckily has the patience of a saint, and has poured me a large wine.
Both dc are on holiday now, we go away in a couple of weeks - North Norfolk beckons!
Hope you're doing ok @Mumtobabyhavoc, I'm in awe of what you achieve despite being unwell.
Operation shed rebuild is going super well, we need some shelves to put "stuff" on, and hopefully the rain will stop for dh to seal it all.
Apologies for the epic post! Happy weekend all

ThunderclapCloud · 23/07/2023 07:34

@RunningKatie that sounds really tough. Sorry you've been feeling like that. I can be similar when overtired 💐

The rain eventually came south and it's wet, wild and windy. Quite exhilarating but the cat isn't impressed!

I hope everyone has a peaceful and pleasant Sunday. We have a family meal out which I'm looking forward to, and other than that, plan to spend some time with my nose in a book.

And I think I might write a few lists and start again house wise tomorrow.

petalpower · 23/07/2023 09:04

Thanks for your kind words about my dad everyone.
It sounds like it’s time for a holiday and a rest @RunningKatie . Good that your DH is being supportive.
You must be exhausted sleeping on the sofa @Peridot1 . How is your lovely dog doing?
Long Covid sounds rubbish @Mumtobabyhavoc . You always seem to achieve so much despite being unwell.
The rain finally arrived here too @ThunderclapCloud . This week looks like it’s going to be a bit hit and miss too and this is the week of DH up on scaffolding fixing the roof. Only the edge tiles and doing something with guttering according to him but it’s still a long way up.
DD’s uni graduation went well and we were super proud parents. Now for her to decide what to do next! She’s taking a gap year working and travelling but is talking of a masters after that. Today I must list another couple of things on eBay and also look into some finance stuff for care home auntie. Might even go mad and change the bed.
Have a good day all!

Peridot1 · 23/07/2023 11:08

Hi all

Dog is doing a bit better. I’ve slept in my own bed the last two nights! We just leave her in the living/kitchen area and she is much happier than being in the utility room. She is definitely on the mend as she is bored silly. Still a bit fussy with foods but wanting treats. Whining a lot but I think it’s boredom really. DH just took her for a wander around the garden. I may attempt a short walk with her tomorrow.

I’m not achieving much really. Did a couple of admin bits. Need to book some flights to Dublin for September. Think today will be another lazy day and i will get on to getting things done from tomorrow.

Not a great week to be up scaffolding @petalpower! Hope all goes well. Glad the graduation went well. We didn’t get to go to DS’s as he didn’t want to go. He is planning a Masters in Dublin from September.

Enjoy your meal out @ThunderclapCloud. I’d love to go out for a nice roast later but DH prefers to stay home. And is cooking roast pork later so that will have to do!

Have a lovely Sunday all.

ThunderclapCloud · 23/07/2023 15:46

Congratulations to DD @petalpower and hope DH gets the job done safely! I went mad and changed our bed just, as well ☺

Ooh another clever child @Peridot1 Congratulations to him as well! Pleased dòggy is feeling a bit better and that you are getting some rest.

We had a lovely meal out. Noisy as usual and all the generations, with mum right down to our great neice. Quite worn out now looking after mum but was lovely to see everyone as we're all a bit far-flung now. I have my feet up now mum is safely home. The 'kids' have gathered at DD's house but I've run out of steam!

Nice cuppa here and probably beans on toast later.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/07/2023 18:28

Nothing productive to report unless getting dressed counts. Spent Thurs & Fri in bed and most of yesterday. Haven't been dressed since Wednesday. Didn't eat two days. Have lost sense of taste. Up again last night with Havoc for fever at 39c. Friend is getting groceries for me. Managed to get household garbage together and taken out, but it left me breathless and with a coughing fit. Everything in disarray here 😢

Peridot, glad doggy is improving. 😊
Thunder, sounds like a very nice evening out. ☺️

Peridot1 · 24/07/2023 08:31

You are definitely going through it @Mumtobabyhavoc. Really hope you feel better soon.

Your meal out sounds lovely @ThunderclapCloud. Lovely to be able to get all the generations together.

Re DS - I can’t remember if I posted but we are really proud of him. He got a First! This is the boy who did his GCSEs at home at the dinning room table with an invigilator as he had missed so much school due to daily migraines which turned into a bit of a school phobia. There were some issues coming up to A levels also but he did manage to do them at school. He hasn’t really been to uni as such as basically did it all on line from home but worked really hard. Going away for a Masters will be really good for him I think.

Yesterday ended up being slightly more productive than planned as we ended up doing some sorting out in the garage. DH bought a large metal storage cupboard to replace a wooden one we had been using which was falling apart so we did some clearing out and putting away.

Today maybe more sorting - part of sorting the garage was because we want to sort kitchen cupboards and wanted to gain some space to move things from the kitchen and utility room that aren’t used often into the garage.

petalpower · 24/07/2023 14:52

You must be incredibly proud of your DS @Peridot1 . He has done amazingly well despite his health issues. Will he be far from your family when he does his masters?
You sound as though you’re having a dreadful time of things @Mumtobabyhavoc . Have you seen a doctor recently? Hope you’re getting plenty of RL support.
Struggling with motivation here today. Rainy Mondays just aren’t good for the soul. Worrying about adult children too (early twenties age bracket) and wishing I had a magic wand to fix things. At least Petaldog is a very straightforward chap!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/07/2023 18:28

Petal, I don't think you ever stop worrying about children as parents...🤷‍♀️

Woke up drenched in sweat at 5:30am. Havoc was awake so got up and powered through some much needed chores: vacuumed; steam-cleaned kitchen and bathroom floors and sinks; washed out vacuum filters; stripped bed and washed sheets; put pillows in dryer on hot to fluff up and get of all the bugs I imagine are in them (!); steamed bed and pillows; steamed then wiped sliding door track and wiped balcony railing; and made a banana bread (it was that or throw away bananas). Need a shower but no energy left. Back in bed with a sleeping Havoc beside me. Hoping to get some sleep then wash up later. Managed to get Havoc to eat a tiny bit which was good. I'm not hungry at all either. The coughing is bloody awful and incessant.

SummerLobelia · 25/07/2023 06:43

Thanks @Mumtobabyhavoc you really are having an awful time and I am so sorry. I hope so much that you get better soon as it sounds just awful. Your resilience in still managing to get things done and take care of havoc is really something. Thanks

@ThunderclapCloud the family meal sounds lovely!!

Hope everyone is okay. I need to catch up properly on the thread. We arrived home from our holiday in the early hours of this morning and the family are all sleeping but I have blood tests scheduled for 8 am so am up with a cup of coffee wishing I had the foresight to put some sliced bread in the freezer so i could have some breakfast. Trip to Aldi scheduled after the tests.

Tasks for today- get going on the washing and unpacking and catch up on the thread!

Hope everyone has a glorious day. :) Love to you all.

Peridot1 · 25/07/2023 07:39

@Mumtobabyhavoc - please rest! You are doing so much while ill.

@petalpower - DS will be close enough but not too close if you know what I mean! It’s nice for me to know that family are there if needed.

Hope you had a nice holiday @SummerLobelia.

I didn’t get much done yesterday. Washed out some Kilner jars and bottles from the garage to put into the new cupboard.

Have some admin things to do today and need to order a few things for DS for his birthday next month. Need to strip spare bed and wash the bedding too.

Have a good day all.

ThunderclapCloud · 25/07/2023 14:29

Another older projecter coming on to wag a motherly finger at you @Mumtobabyhavoc and ask you to please rest as much as you can. In future just throw away the blasted bananas 🤗 think a GP appointment would be a good idea.

Congratulations to DS @Peridot1 and well done as such supportive parents.

Mine are in even older age brackets and things have settled down in the main, though recently one has had relationship problems and another has has a shocker of a mortgage payment increase so there is always support needed and given. They are a fabulous bunch but the last 34 years have not always been plain sailing.
My mother's stepped up to fill the gap, bless her. She's quite a handful currently, but although i have fallen into the role of project manager, I do have quite a lot of support. I have become quite assertive about this.

Good to see you back @SummerLobelia Hope you had an amazing time and most importantly, got some breakfast! Also good wishes for whatever the blood tests were for 💕

@petalpower in sandwichy sisterhood, may I suggest a nice cuppa, feet up with a book or some lightweight telly and a dog on lap/at feet (delete as appropriate depending on size and house rules) and take some time out from worrying. Even if just for an hour!

I've done mother shopping and arranged her a couple of appointments as she's losing the ability, sadly. I've taken own advice and sitting under a cat with a coffee and about to finish my whodunit.

Then i intend to do the flylady home blessing for an hour, which will soothe my soul, and then put together a large family sized bolognaise to have across the week.

Best to all flowers 💐

ThunderclapCloud · 25/07/2023 14:32

Chuckling at my final sentence.

You can call me flower if you want to (Bambi ref which I'm sure you'll all get!)

Flowers was just a short cut to the emoji. Oh the things that please me ☺

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/07/2023 16:13

Thanks for the kind words everyone. 💖
Doctor appt by phone in a few hours. 😊

RunningKatie · 25/07/2023 20:16

Hope the Dr has some good advice and help @Mumtobabyhavoc, you've been trying to power through and you really need to rest up.
We are at the start of the summer hols, I've only had to use my cross voice once so far and the dc are calling each other "bestie". By week 5, they'll be barely speaking and my cross voice will be making the neighbours quake!
I sorted the sideboard the other day and the shed now has a roof. Hurrah. Also 3 bags dropped at the charity shop, and I've made a start on stocking up on bits of uniform that we need for September.
The sun is out, I so wish we had a garden that got the evening sun, I just could imagine being out there with a large wine.

ThunderclapCloud · 26/07/2023 06:14

Morning all!
Hope the doctor was helpful @Mumtobabyhavoc Does seem to be pot luck whether they are, certainly around these parts.
Hope the holidays go very smoothly @RunningKatie You're right in the thick of it, by the sounds of it 💐 You've been very productive lately. I found an old pair of glasses the other day and thought of you 😂
I've finally started wearing my varifocals full time. Ive had them nearly three years and for a lot of that they've been considered reading glasses.

I have a list of little errands and appointments to book today and as I'm working the late shift I'm going to attempt to be as productive as possible this morning.

👋 everyone

SummerLobelia · 26/07/2023 07:17

Morning all.

Thanks @ThunderclapCloud I did get breakfast in the end.... it's been 12 days of glorious greek yoghurt with fruit and honey and I am trying to carry that on! The tests are an MOT really- I have had some bowel problems and a new locum at our GP surgery is being delightfully thorough. I am really grateful for that as i was extremely ill last year with what turned out to be pernicious anaemia and am still not on top of things in any way. Usually I feel fobbed off. So I hope she stays!

I hope you had a good appointment with your DR, @Mumtobabyhavoc you have been so unwell for so long and I echo everyone in saying that I hope you can rest up a bit and not exhaust yourself. Thanks

Hope the holidays go well @RunningKatie . I have been known to go around shutting open windows before MY cross voice comes out!

Hi to everyone!

I need to continue sorting out the washing and all that. DH has booked the carpet fitters to come this afternoon to measure up for our new carpets. Hmm Looking around at all the clutter I have no idea how they are going to do that!"!

Hope everyone has a great day.
