Hi everyone!

I am a bit all over the place at the moment. Work keeps being quiet when I expect it to be busy then flaring up when I have no time to deal with it.

Today I need to clean out the car, and have just been to the doctors for ongoing foot problems.

Aria999 · 21/04/2023 16:36

I am on a roll today.

Dropped the car off for a service. Discovered that Uber wanted $30 to take me home again. Made it home on public transport. (I have not really used public transport in this city before. It has trains! Who knew!)

Changed the a/c filter. This sounds pretty tame but actually required a fairly terrifying climb into the loft from the top of a ladder that doesn't quite reach that far. Then some further acrobatics in a small hot loft space with one safe wooden path through the fluff. Our loft is almost entirely full of insulation material and enormous black squishy pipes. Part of the a/c system possibly... I have no idea...

Most other things I want to do would need the car so I'm just going to sort the kitchen out and have a cup of tea.

How is everyone doing?

Hi everyone! 😄 Had Havoc at gymnastics today. Mummy had a good workout as usual trying to keep up. 😅 Errands done this afternoon. Laundry folded and put away. Organized and re-folded a drawer of Havoc's clothes. Another load washing now. 👍
Just made myself a sandwich with left-over ham from last night's dinner, well ham, brioche bun, French mustard -simple. Will put a proper dinner together in a bit. Havoc has just woken up from a good nap and is quite content sitting here beside me with milk.

Aria999 · 22/04/2023 03:10

@Mumtobabyhavoc washing is perpetual isn't it!

Recently I allowed a three basket buildup of clean washing. Finding things to wear became a whole family basket-rummage-challenge. I have cleared it for now but just when you think you deserve a break there's another load needs doing...

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/04/2023 05:44

@Aria999 so true!

Peridot1 · 22/04/2023 08:21

Hi all

I haven’t achieved anything this week. Well I changed all the beds and kept up with washing.

I’ve been sulking about the weather. We have lots to do in the garden but it’s been too cold for me - I’m a real fair weather gardener! I could have done stuff in the house but decided to sulk instead. Grin

I need to make a list and start ticking things off. Might motivate me.

today I am on village littler picking duty and then have a chiropractor apt. Then I think I’ll concentrate on my list.

Aria999 · 22/04/2023 12:22

Hi @Peridot1 !

Share your list with us 😊

I have now had a sudden panic about whether we have asbestos in the loft (given you have to kind of tunnel through the insulation to get to the a/c filter.

Need to get that checked! I hope not as we have already spent so much money on fixing this house but I can't rule it out from the information I can find online.

SnowAndIceLobelia · 22/04/2023 12:33

Hello!

Sorry I fell off the thread. Been having a stressy few days although i have been on MN.

My main achievement was to buy those vaccuum storage bag thingies and am merrily putting things into bags and stacking them up. I feel quite accomplished.

I need to get cracking on some washing though. DH is painting the room where I usually have the clothes horse so I hve been putting it off.

Hope everyone has a lovely week and that you have something suitably warming and alcoholic after the litter picking @Peridot1 !!

Peridot1 · 22/04/2023 12:53

@Aria999 - the edited version or the huge long list? Grin I think I’ll start with a brain dump list and I’m not sure MN would cope with a post that long!

Good luck with the asbestos info finding. Sounds a worry.

@SnowAndIceLobelia - I had to leave before they all finished but there were bacon rolls and coffee on offer for after. No alcohol this time!

RunningKatie · 22/04/2023 13:15

Afternoon - hope everyone is well.
Feeling worn out today, the house needs a good clean again, I'm still trying to declutter but getting fed up of messages asking if X is still available and then "poof" disappearing.

petalpower · 23/04/2023 09:14

I’m still here and lurking @Aria999 ! Have fallen off this thread but have been reading everyone’s updates. Just very busy with stuff. Builders starting extension, adult DS needing support, daughter writing uni dissertation and going into finals, Dad’s Alzheimer’s worsening. Hoping to get a bit more on top of things this week!

MoreCloudsThanYouCanImagine · 23/04/2023 16:58

Hello everyone! I fell off the entire Internet for a while! I'm so pleased that this thread is still going 💕
Just going to go back and read what you've all been up to xxx

SnowAndIceLobelia · 23/04/2023 17:00

Yay you are back!!!!

So pleased to see you. Thanks

Awww thank you! ♥

RunningKatie · 23/04/2023 19:39

Yay! So fab to "see" everyone. Today we've been to a dog cafe, ddog behaved themselves. I've labelled 1 pair of school trousers. 3 pairs to go!
I also have years of badges to sew on a hoodie, I have heard of something called badge glue so need to investigate this.

petalpower · 23/04/2023 21:20

You’re back @MoreCloudsThanYouCanImagine ! Thank you for your kind words. Definitely jam in the sandwich time. Good to see everyone else too.

MoreCloudsThanYouCanImagine · 24/04/2023 06:10

Hello 👋 I have caught up - ish! I have spent the last ten minutes reading about the Boot Buddy @SpiritOfEdna They do look good. I am famed for my boot neglect, and I would like to turn this around.
As ever I'm impressed with what you have all achieved!
I've not made smug soup in far too long. That might be a starting point for me today.
Also clutter has crept a bit. And I really must wash the car and clean it out.

SpringLobelia · 24/04/2023 07:26

Morning!

Smug soup.... I had it in my head yesterday to make Scandinavian split pea soup. But we were out of split peas! As we have about 400 tins and packs of all the other kind of legumes I couldm not justify buying a pack of yellow peas just because.

So we had sausage rolls instead. Hmm

I am missing our dear friend @FatSealSmugSoup ... if you are out there lurking I do hope all is okay. Thanks

This morning I have already amde all the beds; cleaned out the kitty litter trays; tidied the sitting room and am about to put a load of washing on for later. I am reading a book called 'Atomic Habits' and it has been inspriring - there was a case study of a chap who just made it a habit to clear up afterhimself every single time, without exceptions because he is self described as 'lazy' and this was actually easier.

Who knows... perhaps I will soon be able to report a sparkling home rather tha the cluttered disaster it usually is.

DH is also painting all the skirting boards right now ready for new carpets which we hope to have in situ by - maybe September realisitically. But things are happening!!

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

SpiritOfEdna · 24/04/2023 09:16

Well hello! Made the mistake this morning of saying ‘yes’ to upgrading my work laptop not knowing it would take an hour…. Thought I’d take advantage and do some tasks as I’ve slackened off over the last week. Work has been very busy (my excuse) but thus far:

  • gathered up all the recycling ready to go out
  • sanded a little bit more of my bed
  • done some more filing (I need the table back!)
For the rest of the day I need to:
  • clean the cupboard behind the TV
  • clean the stairs
  • actually put the filing inserts back in the filing cabinet
  • need to pay a bill I keep forgetting about
That might get me feeling a bit more productive today.

Peridot1 · 24/04/2023 09:38

Morning all.

Lovely to see everyone back!

and yes I miss @FatSealSmugSoup and hope she is ok.

not much achieved here over the weekend. And then I fell on Saturday night bringing the dog back in from the garden. Stood on the edge of the doormat outside and turned over on my ankle and ended up flat on the ground. So I’m a bit of an achy mess!

So today I will be taking it easy. Again. And mostly doing sofa jobs.

  • Do brain dump list
  • order veg trug planter - done
  • pay Next account bill - done
  • order a picture frame
  • sort paperwork basket
  • go through magazines and discard most
  • pack up a skirt to be returned

Hope you all, have a good day!

Aria999 · 24/04/2023 14:27

Woohoo, great to see everyone 😊

@RunningKatie let me know how you get on with badge glue- maybe it would work for knee patches! I tried the iron on ones but they don't survive the wash. I have taken to 'labeling' things by just writing the name in sharpie on the existing label.

@petalpower sorry to hear about your dad. That must be very difficult. Alzheimers is so scary and horrible.

@MoreCloudsThanYouCanImagine I finally got round to making soup last week (about 3 weeks after I bought the vegetables, luckily they survived) and it's lucky I did because I am now on a liquid diet for a few days!

@SpringLobelia could you make Other Legumes soup instead? 'Cluttered disaster' is our house too at the moment, especially the kitchen as DS made cupcakes yesterday then I ended up going to ER instead of cleaning up. (All turns out to be fine other than the aforementioned need to lay off solids for a short while). Sounds like I need that atomic habits book!

@SpiritOfEdna you are a powerhouse of activity! Why does your bed need sanding, are you revarnishing it?

@Peridot1 sorry about your ankle, it's so limiting when you can't move around much. Good luck with the sofa jobs.

Today I am mostly going to stay in bed though I do need to think of and send a gift for my lovely friend who took the kids yesterday afternoon so I could go to the hospital, and I need to drive out and get DH from the airport around lunchtime.

petalpower · 24/04/2023 20:18

Lovely to see so many people popping by today!
Today I’ve:
been to the solicitors with DH to finally sign our wills ✔️
ordered flea and worm medication for the dog ✔️
contacted three friends to arrange meet ups ✔️
thrown out some random items ✔️
found more items to list on eBay ✔️
arranged for a pair of trousers to be returned to Next ✔️
sent DDs postal vote pack to her uni address ✔️
A productive day!

SpiritOfEdna · 25/04/2023 13:44

@Aria999 It's a sleigh bed which is looking a bit tatty; it's the typical mahogany colour so I am taking it back to base and then deciding. The wood has a nice grain, so am looking towards a light oak stain; but I might change my mind tomorrow and decide to paint it :-) I am sanding it by stealth - a little bit every day.

Today's jobs have been a random lot, we have reverted back to pulling tasks out of a pot

  • clean bath panel and bath - done
  • clean fire surround - done
  • pay bills + some overpayments - done
  • nip to the vets to make a vaccination appointment for the dog (fed up after 2 days running of hanging on hold for 40 mins) - done
  • reserve a wetsuit for my open water swimming intro session next week - done (sent an email asking how to do it ! Nobody likes to answer the phone)
Still to do:
  • clean kitchen tiles
  • water the plants
  • tidy one item in my bedroom
  • a bit more sanding
That will be it for me today.

Have a good day.
SoE

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/04/2023 16:35

Hi everyone! Lots getting done by everyone here!!!! I cleaned the bathroom, washed the kitchen floor and put a load of laundry in then hung it to dry before going to bed last night. It always feel productive to whiz through some tasks, doesn't it?
