Hello all!

Welcome @samtheskull ! Good to have you with us.

I am hoping we have not lost our esteemed @AllTheExtraClouds and that she is okay.

Hope everyone is fine .... poor DH with gout @Peridot1 ! Hope he is better soon.

Not much being achieved here- still have guests. They are staying a while because it has been so long since we have seen them- cos covid - and its been intense.

For me I am finishing some documents re DS1s various issues and hope to do a wool wash. If I achieve those I will be pleased. baby steps are all i can cope with right now.

Thanks to everyone.

SpiritOfEdna · 31/03/2023 12:22

Welcome @samtheskull
hurrah for it being Friday - I am off on Monday so I am putting in 2 days’ work today; same as it ever was. Have sorted out parking at the station for Monday and will need to pick up train tickets over the weekend.
For today:

  • walk the dog
  • clean another door
  • pull up the weeds outside the house
  • put my newly arrived passport (hurrah) in a safe place
  • clear out my old blanket chest and chuck out anything that is redundant
and then relax!

Have a good day

SoE

Happy April all, hope you're being more productive than I am. Although I threw a mini tantrum before I left the house this morning and came home to find it had been tidied. Not ideal or something I want to repeat.
Going out this eve, and tomorrow eve. It's almost like having a social life again

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/04/2023 20:08

@petalpower how has the eBay selling going?
@Aria999 how did your job go? Freelance sounds so difficult!

I woke up before Havoc and rushed around folding and putting away laundry; making Havoc's breakfast and lunch; packing swim bag and laying out Havoc's clothes; then making myself tea and a bagel with pb and raspberry jam. I felt so organized!!!! 😁😁😁
Managed to be in the car only 5 mins later than I wanted, but we were in the pool 10 mins before lesson!!! Hooray!!!! Did a quick grocery stop on the way home and Havoc fell asleep right away, so I've got the swim togs and towels in the wash, I'm eating lunch and going to make myself a cafe latte. Mummy is winning today!!!! 😁😁😁

Aria999 · 05/04/2023 01:17

Yay @Mumtobabyhavoc that sounds like a win!

The project was fun and I nearly finished it in the allotted 4 hours (the extra time was a freebie).

There's not much out there at the moment. I am projectless again.

Had a fairly productive day though, drafted a new leadership structure for the school parent organization, initiated a quote for concrete repairs for our front steps, prepped two meals (DH normally cooks but he is having RSI issues) for today and tomorrow, and took DS to his therapy session.

SpiritOfEdna · 05/04/2023 11:18

Morning

Trip to London was successful, went to see the Tempest at the Globe theatre, so one ticked off the list - gorgeous venue, although the cast were competing at one point with an air ambulance (I think) I was knackered Tuesday though; back on it today.

We have slacked off on tidying the house up, it's amazing how quickly it can go from looking 'polished' to sh*t :-)

I am organising a secret party at home for May - no idea of how I am going to get the sibling out while I prepare. It's bad enough trying to make arrangements - today is cake and drink while the Sainsbury's offer is on. At least I can stash stuff in another sibling's house :-)

  • gym session - done
  • visit cake shop and JS
  • get all the recycling out in the bin
  • prep for a tip run on Saturday
  • photo more stuff for ebay given I was unresoundingly unsuccessful with Depop.

That's it for today.

SoE

petalpower · 05/04/2023 19:30

@Mumtobabyhavoc the EBaying is going well thank you. Steady and sure. I’m just going to keep on going putting a few items on every couple of weeks. It’s satisfying to be getting rid of things and having some money coming in too!
It’s been a gorgeous few days here (rain tomorrow though) and I’m hoping to get out in the veg garden at the weekend and get my potatoes and onions finally planted.
Sounds like you had a good trip to London @SpiritOfEdna .
That’s definitely a productive day @Aria999 .
A social life you say @RunningKatie . How exciting!
Where are you @AllTheExtraClouds ? Hope you’re ok and just busy.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/04/2023 01:54

Glad to hear it, petal. ☺️
Besides work it sounds like you keep fairly busy, aria.
I envy your posts, spirit, for starting with Gym done! What kind of cake did you buy? Have I mentioned how much I LOVE cake???😁😋

I managed to catch a cold. Boo. Not covid per three neg tests - thank God! Had that last month and it was bloody awful. Pretty sure I picked up a bug at Havoc's gymnastics club. Anyway, bare minimum getting done this week. Havoc had first day of school today! It's essentially play school at the elementary school and part of our school system. Had GP appt after then grocery shopping that ended up being 4 different places to get everything and traffic was awful. With it being Easter and a 4 day weekend I wasn't the only one wanting to shop... Now heating chilli from the freezer and serving over quinoa and a poached egg on top. Is that weird? It's quite satisfying. 😋
Hoping to be mire motivated next week.
Happy Easter everyone. ☺️

SnowAndIceLobelia · 07/04/2023 07:04

Morning all.

Just checking in to say hi and will go back and read the lovely busy posts!

SnowAndIceLobelia · 07/04/2023 07:25

Morning again,

some lovely things achieved on the thread!

LONG post alert.... Wink

have been madly busy here. Guests, and work and children and things going on. Hopefully will start to quieten down now.

Hope Havoc's day at school went well @Mumtobabyhavoc and you are soon over your cold!

@SpiritOfEdna I love your bullet point lists

@petalpower I really need to start ebaying. DH and I were talking about it last night. We have so much stuff (Did I mention he has hoarding tendencies? [rolls eyes] )

@Aria999 and @RunningKatie hope you are both well.

I hope @AllTheExtraClouds is okay and @FatSealSmugSoup who I miss for her wit and her lovely glimpses into Island life.

Hi to everyone!

So we have had guests and things have been busy. But I was thinking vaguely about everything i have achieved the past year- mostly due to the inspiration on this thread; (cue bullet point list Smile )

  • downstairs cloakroom- we had a leak and the ceiling fell in. Ceiling repaired; skirting boards and cornicing repainting white and walls grey. Retiled; chandelier installed and a silver gilt mirror installed and black framed pictures put up
  • our bathroom - retiled into blue and white chequerboard tiles; repainted
  • guest bathroom - (this had peeling and yellow paint) - repainted white; new grey and white flowered curtains put up
  • entrace to our front door - (this was a mess of broken bins and dumped rubbish)- rubbish cleared; flower bed made; ferns and euphorbia planted; bin house covered up with bug houses and pots of flowering heather
  • patio cleaned (delegated)
  • rose arch installed (delegated)
  • quite alot of decluttering and charity ship donating (not delegated)
  • DS1's room completely cleared of old toys and so forth. Colours and decor changed to his preference of pale grey, navy blu with blush pink accents. Seveal paintings put up on the walls by the wonderful artist Gordon Barker (naive art, mainly of children and snow and cats)
  • My landing reading nook!!! - unused space converted into a little reading nook with a small turkish rug; table with lamp and a little chair
  • More that I cannot recall right now!!

So much has been achieved!

This year I am carrying on with decluttering. But I also want a proper larger summer project. We have another tiny space in the garden which is a mess of concrete broken pavers etc. I plan to work on this and build up some flower beds (making them myself with stone blocks). We have an old wizened cherry tree there and I will build a flower bed around it and hopefully underplant with flowers. This will be a bit of a task as we will need to break the concrete up and so forth. DH does have a concrete breaking thing.

I hope everyone has a wonderful easter break. Today I need to take the DCs to a local park as they have entered into an easter photo competition. I also need to chivy DH into booking our summer holiday to see his family. He's a bit hopeless but he has so many self imposed requirements about hotels and rooms and the like that I told him to get on with it.

Very best wishes to you all. Thanks

Peridot1 · 07/04/2023 08:56

Hello all

Lovely to see all your posts and updates.

I am not sure what I’ve been up to! Not much really. Just the bare basics day by day.

I love your list of achievements @SnowAndIceLobelia. You certainly got lots done. Big projects too.

For me I suppose I did a lot of clearing out of clutter. Still a lot to go. But generally not too bad really. Our spare bedrooms tend to stay clear which is good. Our living room is much better than it was. The study still has a long way to go. I’m still working on my clothes. Dropping three dress sizes in a year meant lots of stuff had to go.

We are garden focused too at the moment. I can get overwhelmed by it all at times so tend to let it be DH’s domain but I like the planning and shopping bits! Current plans are:

  • Replace three dead young cherry trees along the drive (we have the replacements so starting that today)
  • order some potato grow bags for the seed potatoes I bought yesterday
  • work out what we are putting in beds by patio and order the plants - a garden expert neighbour gave us some ideas so putting that into practice
  • replace the herbs that have died in the herb garden
  • dig over a ‘bed’ that DH didn’t prep properly last year and is still full of weeds and grass. Going to put membrane down and gravel and put pots on there to match the opposite side.
  • decide where the fruit trees DH bought are to be planted
  • get pots for the two blueberry plants he bought
  • order a vegetable trug table for planting lettuces etc
  • get the new greenhouse going
  • plant some shrubs under a line of lollipop trees that were already here when we bought the house. I rather remove them tbh but DH not keen.
  • remove the mostly dead beech hedging plants along the back fence and plant a metre wide wildflower strip all along instead
  • Remove the dead hebes in the front garden
  • Plant the Lily of the Valley pips I bought near the front driveway
  • DH needs to plant hedging around the compost area to screen it

There is lots more and it’s a big garden so it’s all going to take time. General stuff needs to happen like patio washing too and planting up the pots on the patio. Lots of blue lobelia again this year I think.

And we are hosting a big BBQ at the beginning of June so would like a lot of it done by then. No chance!

Have a great day all.

RunningKatie · 08/04/2023 09:25

Morning all! Those are some impressive lists, especially the garden ones.
We had bright sunshine yesterday but woke up today to fog. That's unexpected, it's chilly again too.
I have a massive indoors job list as well as outdoors ones, but dh also mentioned a new footpath yesterday so a expedition might be on the cards too.
We had a night away without dc and ddog, such bliss, felt like a proper holiday!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/04/2023 22:18

Out of all the boxes of "stuff" I have to sort and purge I managed to consolidate two. Ugh. I also threw away another bag full of bags. In this case, paper grocery bags; and a good few cardboard boxes I had been saving (?). 🤔 I then skillfully put all the boxes back into the storage closet for another day then vacuumed like a demon before making brunch. 😈
Once everyone is asleep tonight I might rearrange the living and dining room furniture.
🤫🤫🤫🤫🤫

SpiritOfEdna · 11/04/2023 14:47

lol, a bullet pointed list makes me happy.

A busy weekend, I

  • did a much needed revamp of my filing system (I know, even I am groaning :-)). Still ongoing.
  • nearly caught up with my art sessions. I am practising drawing magpies.
  • moved a big chest from bedroom to downstairs, fits in the bay window nicely and holds all my art stuff. With the added bonus of being able to get rid of a stool that had a table lamp on it
  • tried my new orbital sander on the bed - with the intent of revamping the bed - not sure whether to re-varnish or paint. Leaning towards painting at the moment.
  • visited family, walked the dog a lot :-)
  • bought a load of plants for the garden to give some much needed colour, they need to be re-potted
  • read a chapter of my book - Violeta by Isabel Allende.
  • Had the next bit of work confirmed with replacement paving in the alleyway between us and next door - will need a trip to the tip before then
Today looks a lot skimpier:
  • some more filing
  • walk the dog once finished work for the afternoon
  • water all the plants
Have a good day SoE
SnowAndIceLobelia · 11/04/2023 15:56

Hello!

You achieve loads @SpiritOfEdna !!

I have not achieved my charity bag dumping plan but have bought a Gardeners Wolrd magazine because I have decided I really want to get stuck into the garden this spring and summer. I am massively pleased with what I achieved in the dark area..... ferns and euphorbia and the like but I was looking at it today and think that I can definitely add more to that area. So tonight I am sketching out a plan and will get stuck into it from this week. I am thinking hostas (which I love) but will need to find a slug and snail repellant that does not actually posion them (birds, hedgehogs etc). I think I read once that you can put copper rings on the pots that will deter them. I have plans for a mass of dark greens in various colours.

Hopefully that will all start tomorrow!

RunningKatie · 11/04/2023 16:48

Long weekend was lovely but back to work has been slow today. As it's the Easter holiday there's the added bonus of dc floating about desperate to talk absolute drivel at me as soon as they think of it!
Managed to sell some things this weekend on fb but also got the timewasters, so frustrating.
Today I've contacted the window company about a broken handle. It's only taken a year for dh to agree he cannot fix it afterall....

SnowAndIceLobelia · 12/04/2023 11:44

Morning all... today i shall achieve... going out for lunch.

(Plus a charity bag dump on the way).

Hope everyone has a great day!

RunningKatie · 12/04/2023 12:22

Enjoy your lunch @SnowAndIceLobelia

Last night I painted my nails, today I have messaged a gym. I've neglected myself for far too long.

Today I'm trying to work, going to do some shredding and need to get some washing on. It can't go out on the line due to our seasonal weather.

SpiritOfEdna · 12/04/2023 14:08

afternoon, it is blooming freezing here and raining. At least all new plants have had a good water; it feels warmer outside! Been in back to back meetings this morning, no opportunities to do quick things in between meetings, but have been to the gym this morning before work started and the dog had a good walk earlier.

  • now all filing mostly done, can check the tax calc is correct - at least for the next 15 mins
  • dog walked - done
  • gym session - done
  • art session - tonight
  • pick up and tidy books from bedroom floor - tonight
  • wash gym kit - tonight
  • pick a morning to do a pre-work swim - may have to be Saturday - there are some very early meetings in diary :-(

Have a good day

SoE

SnowAndIceLobelia · 12/04/2023 18:59

Hello! Thanks @RunningKatie lunch was lovely. We nearly got blown over walking home though!

I have successfully prepared the house to face our cleaner tomorrow. I also have almost caught up on the washing.

I need to get back to the gym as well. @SpiritOfEdna what do you do? i do a legs bums and tums and some spinning. In theory- when i actually go that is!

have a great evening everyone.

SpringLobelia · 14/04/2023 07:11

Good morning!

Yesterday I cleared out the fish pond that had a strange new weed in it that I have never seen before. It was thick and one of the fish was caught up in it. DH is taking a sample to the aquatic centre today to see what we can do to get rid of it.

I am on an agapanthus hunt as I have a tricky garden bed in which agapanthus may work.

I also need to figure out how to make a living roof for one of our sheds. I have just been putting pots on it but want something more attractive.

Inside projects- I am donating some old blankets and duvets to the RSPCA who need some. I washed them all yesterday and they are drying.

Hope everyone has a good day!

SpiritOfEdna · 14/04/2023 15:32

@SnowAndIceLobelia I do weights twice a week with a trainer. if it was left up to me I would go the gym and sit on a bike for an hour reading my phone :-)

  • I've been knee deep in years' past accounts and out of curiosity checked an old pension pot that I'd asked the FA to transfer into the bigger pot a year ago and it is still sitting there... One email sent. The amount is small but still.
  • It's raining, but all the new plants have been transferred into lovely pots
  • Gym session today cancelled - rescheduled for tomorrow
  • Click and collect ordered, pick up tomorrow, before I go the gym.

A living roof on the shed sounds fab. I live near a children's hospital that has two big living walls, they go from grass in the summer to moss in the winter

v. boring stuff today, I will be glad when last work meeting is done at 5.

have a good day

SoE

RunningKatie · 19/04/2023 10:20

Morning - is anyone out there? I've kept meaning to check in and failing.
Today I am going to sort receipts and bank statements, they end up in the fruit bowl so it's a mess.
DH is going to repaint the wall that he chipped the paint off when he was doing a 2 person job without asking for help!

Peridot1 · 19/04/2023 11:53

Hi @RunningKatie, I’m here. Been meaning to check in too.

I really need to get back to this thread and making a list and getting stuff done. I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed with knowing where to begin and this thread was so good for me just making me chip away at things.

I put all my summer clothes in the bed in the spare room when I came back from Australia thinking I’d be switching over from winter stuff quite soon but it’s been too cold. I have a bit of ironing to do so I might start with that and get that done and sorted.

Also have some things I could try on to see if they will fit and if not I can do a charity shop bag to add to the others that need to go.
