Hi all- just checking in so i don't fall off the thread.

have just returned from what ended up being a 7 hour boozy lunch. Blush

Not what i expected when I began the day- but never mind- go with the flow i say.

Pre boozy lunch though i helped DH put up a painting. Then put together two more charity shop bags. Then washed and vacuumed the car.

Post boozy lunch I cooked dinner for everyone which impresses me profoundly.

And I think I am spelling things more or less correctly as well.

Hope everyone has a lovely evening. Smile

RunningKatie · 17/03/2023 19:57

Today I've had a mad few cleaning hours, then went out for lunch with dh. All very civilised, house still resembles a bombsite but a slightly cleaner around the edges bombsite.
@petalpower - we made a cheesecake, it was joyously received and consumed.
Looking forward to the weekend!

petalpower · 18/03/2023 09:09

Ooh a cheesecake @RunningKatie . Sounds lovely although I’m not a fan of baked cheesecakes. I’ve got a good recipe for a raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake which always goes down well but is hideously calorific.
Impressed that you’re upright after a seven hour boozy lunch @SnowAndIceLobelia never mind cooking dinner and spelling things correctly!
I went out last night and when I came back DH had somehow made the whole house smell like smoked fish. Apparently it was something to do with the wood burner not lighting properly rather than anything fish related but today’s job has to be to air the house and get rid of the smell. Not looking forward to opening windows as it’s cold and damp but needs must.

AllTheExtraClouds · 18/03/2023 09:15

Hello! I too fell off the thread. Well off MN completely. Welcome home @Peridot1
Boozy lunch sounds fab @ComeTheSpringLobelia
I have been ridiculously busy, though in a good way. I will catch up properly this afternoon.
Best wishes to all xx

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/03/2023 04:41

I'm joining the dessert gang! I bought a tuxedo cake today and ate two big slices - for lunch. 😋😋😋
Used my steam cleaner to clean the dishwasher door; kitchen floor and around the front door today. Managed to get two loads of laundry done and a grocery shop.
Very warm day today with lots of sun, too. Spent late afternoon with Havoc at the playground. All and all a pretty good day. 😊

petalpower · 19/03/2023 09:18

I just had to google tuxedo cake @Mumtobabyhavoc and they look delicious. You deserved it after your busy cleaning day too. Lots achieved. I’m not keen on my steam cleaner as the fabric pad thing attaches with a little toggle thing and keeps coming off.
Good to see you back @AllTheExtraClouds . I was wondering where you were and if you were ok. Still no sign of @FatSealSmugSoup . I hope she’s just busy.
Yesterday I added 5 things to my charity shop pile - a sweatshirt, two jumpers and two summer tops that I just don’t wear. Visited the care home too. Covid is still rampaging through but auntie now fortunately testing negative now.
Happy Mother’s Day to all. I have DD here (uni Easter break) but DS is at his flat as he moved out a couple of years ago for work. Lovely flowers, chocolate and card from them both (and the dog who is my honorary child!).

Aria999 · 19/03/2023 11:16

Mmm cheesecake.

Possibly I need a steam cleaner.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/03/2023 11:32

Happy Mother's Day. 💐
I do find my steam cleaner a bit glitchy, but overall am hapoily obsessed with steaming. 😂
I'm procrastinating on sorting, decluttering, and repacking many boxes from storage. Ugh. Steam cleaning is much more satisfying and is giving my the illusion of everything in order atm.

RunningKatie · 19/03/2023 14:42

I have a steam cleaner, used it once and now it's in the garage under a pile of stuff.
Lovely sunny day here after monsoon-like rain yesterday. Windows open, washing out. I'm feeling the need for an afternoon nap, wondering if anyone would notice!

Aria999 · 19/03/2023 16:26

I need an afternoon nap to get through the day. I just had one while the kids were finishing brunch 😳

SpiritOfEdna · 20/03/2023 15:14

hello all, just back from Neighbour's Funeral. It was nice to get a glimpse of the young J. playing darts and holidaying in Scotland, it must have been caravan holidays, because she used to take a chest of drawers with them. It was only when she finally got abroad that she got her first suitcase. The wake is taking place in the garden next door, so it sounds as if she is getting a good send off. I am back home and working

Anyhoo, tasks left for today

  • clean skirting boards in the hall
  • hoover the sofa and rug
  • need to catch up with Art days as missed over the weekend

Have a good day all.

Hope @FatSealSmugSoup is OK.

SoE.

RunningKatie · 22/03/2023 09:35

Morning all!
Dc1 is baking at school today, I have hopes for scones later, accompanied by a disagreement on how you say scone.
I've done some ironing this morning but need to spend some time just picking stuff up and putting it away. It isn't a natural process in this house!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/03/2023 16:57

@RunningKatie 😂

Planning on just getting some laundry done today. We're having gorgeous spring weather
and would like one more afternoon of sledding before the ski hills close. 🤞

SpiritOfEdna · 23/03/2023 08:31

@RunningKatie mmm, love a scone. @Mumtobabyhavoc envious of sledding :-)
Doggo went to the vets yesterday £45 for the privilege of being today she may have a low level allergy/sensitive skin, but her ears are fine :-)
I was knackered yesterday - so not doing much, the Niece can popped round after school had a nice walk with the doggo and learned the horrors of the puberty lesson in school.

Today I need to

  • catch up on my art lessons, I have fallen behind by 5 days
  • cleaned all the skirting boards in the hall yesterday, will do kitchen today
  • water all the plants
  • clean all the lights switches downstairs.

That will be my mad hour after work.
Have a good day all
SoE

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/03/2023 04:30

Missed sledding yesterday, but made it there today!!! It was snowing and lovely.

@SpiritOfEdna those little jobs are so satisfying! I also did baseboards as well as door frames recently and felt quite smug about it!
Had a late dinner of roasted chicken thighs and veg (baby potatoes, zucchini, yellow peppers, tomatoes), so no other chores. I still have loads of sorting to do of boxes from storage that I've been avoiding. I have three boxes of Christmas decorations/lights that need purging and at least three boxes of papers/files I'm sure can be shredded and tossed. Ugh.

SnowAndIceLobelia · 24/03/2023 06:43

Hi all- sorry for radio silence from me. We have guests staying and i have not had a chance to be on MN a great deal.

So for now my attention is caught up with being a gooid host and still trying to do all the normal DC and home related things!!

Hope everyone is fine and well. Thanks

SpiritOfEdna · 28/03/2023 10:52

morning

Just when you think you have got a handle on things... we thought we had an engineer coming yesterday to replace the droopy element in the top oven, so had to clear out the cupboard where the isolation switch is - dishes and pans kept emerging from this tiny tiny cupboard. Not sure how am going to get them back in. In more exciting news I purchased the train tickets needed to go and see The Tempest at The Globe next week - I could have paid for a two week holiday somewhere instead - or maybe a rainy weekend in the Lakes.

So gym this morning and my random tasks for the day are to:

  • clean one door
  • one more day of Art lessons
  • brush the yard
  • tidy 1 thing in bedroom
  • declutter the isolation switch cupboard :-)

have a good day all.

SoE

RunningKatie · 28/03/2023 11:32

Morning all, this week feels very long and it's only Tuesday! I blame the clocks going forward.
I've started bagging stuff up for a charity shop drop off tomorrow, I hope the container's empty to take it all!
Hope everyone is ok

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/03/2023 15:29

Feeling ahead of the game here. Put a load of laundry in first thing after waking up; made myself a latte; and packed swimming bag for Havoc's lesson this morning and about to get breakfast together. Fingers crossed for a smooth day.
@SpiritOfEdna I'd be tempted to throw things away...😂
@RunningKatie spring closet clearing always feels good! 😃

petalpower · 28/03/2023 15:52

How lovely to see people on here again. I was hoping that the thread wasn’t fading away!
I’ve been listing lots of things on eBay (mostly clothes I used to wear for teaching) and am being fairly successful. Another sale today and three parcels posted yesterday too. I’ve seen my lovely friend who works at the charity shop today so relieved myself of a bag of donations that she was happy to take for me. Had lunch with my friend and whilst I was out took the items that our local church accepts for recycling, picked up some medicines for DS who has a horrible throat, posted two cards and bought a 21st card for my daughter and a small present for a friend’s birthday. It’s horrible, cold and rainy outside but I need to take the dog out so it will be full waterproofs and a speedy walk. So different from the beautiful spring sunshine we had yesterday.

SnowAndIceLobelia · 28/03/2023 20:34

I'm still here but madly busy with guests and things going on. No projects are happening at all.

Hope all are well.

SpiritOfEdna · 30/03/2023 11:21

morning

Oven fixed with a bit of a lesson on which oven to use, so all good, I can stop catching my hand on the top bit when I forget :-) Its freezing here, sitting with coat on, might put heating on shortly.

  • another day another art lesson
  • put all the stuff away back in cupboards after engineer visit
  • look up how to unbung up a dishwasher
  • clean a door
  • brush the bathroom ceiling! (flaking piant) :-)

That is it for today, got to walk doggo when the weather picks up

SoE

samtheskull · 30/03/2023 11:32

Hello, may I join in please? I love hearing what people get up to everyday but I don’t have many friends to share this kind of thing with and you all seem like such a lovely lot! I’m a massive overthinker and need to be kept busy so as not to spend too much time in my own head. I have lots of little decluttering and organising projects I’d like to do around the house so hopefully a thread like this could keep me motivated.

I’m off work today and my car is in the garage so I have nowhere to go and can pretty much please myself all day. I always think I’d spend days like this having a long leisurely bath, reading my book and having an afternoon nap all of which I could do but I think I’ll crack on with my chore list instead.

Hope everyone is well

Peridot1 · 30/03/2023 12:01

Hello all.

I have not been up to much since I got back but I definitely need to get on with things. I need to start with a list!

DH has been laid up with gout for the last ten days. Thankfully on the mend now but at one point had it in both feet. Would he go to the doctor? No. So I found it very hard to be sympathetic. He did manage to get some medication on line which has worked thankfully. And hopefully is having a consultation with a doctor through our medical insurance so hopefully he can get some preventative meds.

Welcome @samtheskull. It is a lovely thread with lovely people. Good luck with your chores and enjoy your day.

my list today:

complete an application form to become a school governor
wash bedding - done
wash towels - currently washing
general wash
go and buy a new phone as the battery in mine is almost dead and not holding charge
supermarket shop for a few things
fold washing
make list of things I need to get done

Have a good day all.

Aria999 · 30/03/2023 12:28

Hi all!

Good luck with the dishwasher @SpiritOfEdna , you can get bottles of miracle stuff for cleaning them (you put it in upside down and run an empty hot wash).

School governor @Peridot1 that sounds very grown up! Hope you get it!

I have been having a hard time getting work the last couple of weeks. I have finally landed a tiny project for a sports club, she asked me not to bill more than $200 so it will probably end up being less than minimum wage but I feel so happy to have something!

So that's my project for today. I also need to paint a small patch of wall and sort out legal documents for custody of the kids if we both die.

DD3 has been off school again but I think can go back today. DS7 is now muttering ominously about a sore throat.
