I am sure this has probably be done before but I was listening to Caroline Hirons saying she did not wear cardigans as she felt it was something her Grandma wore. Though I do not agree I was just looking up future cruises and decided Saga not for me . It would be for older people (I am 63!!). I just imagine loads of white cauliflower hairstyles. I know it is ageist and unreasonable (I know they have jeople going from 55 years).what are you too young for????

I got roundly picked on by a friend for wearing cardigans. I love cardies, I ditched the friend.

Kerantli · 17/01/2023 03:10

The crochet group and a choir I go to...
In both scenarios I'm the youngest by 30-40 years, which caused much hilarity when I was clueless about a Beatles song we're learning at choir that everyone else I sit with knew.
I am also too young to have a kid going to college soon, and another picking their GCSEs

sashh · 17/01/2023 03:16

I was diagnosed with arthritis at 26, the number of people who over the years have told me I was too young.

So I've had the bus pass for years, comfy shoes are an essential and I love a cardigan.

I'm 56.

I'm 42 and cardigans were trendy when I was about 13/14, think Nirvana era. And then later again. I have quite a few, good on a cool but not cold day

Aprilx · 17/01/2023 03:23

Not me but my husband has always refused to go into Marks & Spencer’s because he is too young and I mean he wouldn’t even have socks from there. Anyway at the weekend I persuaded him to try there for some loungewear he needed. He bought something and joked that I am making him middle aged, he is nearly 49.

LadyOfTheFliessssss · 17/01/2023 04:29

I'm 40 and I think I'm too young to stop wearing sequin hot pants.

I have good legs, sue me 😁

CheerfulYank · 17/01/2023 04:35

I’m too young for as many wrinkles as I have 😭 I’m 40! My 62 year old mom has fewer face/forehead lines than I do, I swear.

I love cardigans and slippers though!

It's my Eldest Son's Birthday today. He has turned 20. I can't believe I have a 20 Year Old. I am 42 years old and know ofcourse there are Mums younger than me to 20+ year olds but it feels strange like I am too young ( except when I have knee pain)

My eldest just turned 19 and I’m also 42. Most of my friends and siblings only have toddlers and younger children. I definitely feel way too young to have a child who’s moved out and gone to uni.

FangsForTheMemory · 17/01/2023 05:45

The point is, you are the same person inside whatever age you are, so it’s your self-image doing the talking.

YukoandHiro · 17/01/2023 06:02

I looked up Hotter shoes as I'd never heard of them (and totally agree on Ecco)

I'm not getting it. I'd deffo wear these now and I'm only 40

Have they had a bit of a rebrand or something?

thegreylady · 17/01/2023 06:12

I am 78 and am now too old to set up my Brio railway as I can’t get up if I get on the floor. I content myself with my Playmobil fairies. When the Christmas cake is finished I will set them up again and show you a picture.

Hollyhead · 17/01/2023 06:19

@lljkk if you have someone to share with the two together rail card offers similar benefits as long as your travelling with that person. I didn’t realise it existed until recently.

As 'old' goes, I'm not really approaching any kind of extreme yet; but when I stop and realise that there was considerably less time between the outbreak of WW2 and my birthday than there was between my birthday and today.... always a comforting thought!!

OMG - thanks for making me feel old in one fell swoop.....😢

GnomeDePlume · 17/01/2023 06:32

When we first got an allotment I felt we brought the average age down by several decades. Now with older members having given up we are definitely the average age.

Also noticed that ordering seed catalogues had put me into the Damart thermal underwear demographic.

Having cord things on my glasses. I'm constantly forgetting where I've left them but hanging them round my neck feels like crossing a line.

Oh i aspire to have a beaded specs cord thing but i really need two as I have seeing glasses and reading glasses (which are actually varifocals but not very good ones)
I have the matronly bosom to hold them up and everything 😂
I sometimes have to ask a companion or look in the mirror to check which specs I have on 🙈

Alltheclouds · 17/01/2023 06:36

I'm too young to go to work but I must 😢 I want to read this thread!

snowlolo · 17/01/2023 06:38

I've reported this thread because although the spirit of it is lighthearted there are some very ageist stereotypes here.
It is totally reinforcing these as things that only old people could/ should enjoy:

Crochet
Cruises
Quilting
Cardigans
Slippers
M&S
Choirs
... etc.

I mean aren't we as a society past that? I have friends in their 20's who love all of the above.

What song was it?

Swissmountains · 17/01/2023 06:45

Countdown.
When I start watching that it’s game over for my younger days.

Forgotthebins · 17/01/2023 06:49

You poor thing, OP. Maybe one day you could just try living your life instead of spending it being afraid of getting old.

Buttalapasta · 17/01/2023 06:51

My grandmother claimed she was not old enough for cardigans at 94. 😆

Stunningscreamer · 17/01/2023 06:53

Thank goodness I'm not like you.

I know lots of people this kind of age (older than me) and they're brilliant fun. If someone was fun when they were 20 they'll be fun now.

And I love a cardigan. Couldn't give a shit if it makes me look like Norah Batty, keeps me warm and looks nice.

Countdown.
When I start watching that it’s game over for my younger days.

Rachel Riley and Carol Vorderman were both 22 when they joined Countdown and Rachel is still only 37.

And Carol's in her 60s but damned if she doesn't look ten times better than I do.

Sux2buthen · 17/01/2023 06:54

I'm too young for reporting a lighthearted thread

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 17/01/2023 06:58

i was in a pub where a band was playing a Led Zeppelin number and I was surprised at how many old people knew the words.

Then I realised I was one of them! Sad
