Continuation of previous lifeboat threads 1 & 2 & 3.

Gather here all ye refugees from the JTT Flat Earth Society, welcome to the reassuringly oblate spheroid of MN! Ye all already know the answers to the questions "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

So really we're all here just to chat randomly.

Happy birthday! And I want curry for dinner later now. I made beef rendang at new year, it was delicious but quite a performance.

CyanCrystalViolet · 28/01/2023 09:44

Happy birthday Angelico! What are your plans for today?

VicSynix · 28/01/2023 09:48

Happy birthday Angelico!

And I really, really must try and convince my OH that a trip to South East Asia should be planned at some point in the next couple of years. I met an old colleague who is just off to Singapore to work for 10 days and it sounds amazing.

StephanieSuperpowers · 28/01/2023 10:04

Happy birthday, Angelico! Many happy returns!

Winterborne74 · 28/01/2023 10:07

Happy birthday 🎈 angelico!

UnfortunatePoster · 28/01/2023 10:11

Happy birthday Angelico!! Hope you (OK, Angelica) enjoy the massive telly!

angelico53 · 28/01/2023 10:18

Thanks everyone! The telly is installed and is indeed huge. Sadly, Angelica is finding it all very complicated to operate. TV remotes are terrible UIs, aren't they? I should have thought something the size of a very thin book with a querty input would be the thing - but they haven't changed in 20 years, it seems.

I'm looking forward to match of the day...

bignosebignose · 28/01/2023 10:38

Happy birthday angelico. Your trip looks amazing Kuc, bringing back memories of my one work trip to Singapore about 20 years ago. A Malaysian supplier came to meet me there and took me to a seafood place where I had curried crab, it was the most delicious thing I’ve ever eaten.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 28/01/2023 10:42

I can't magically transport myself to Malaysia, bit I am making resolutions about varying my cooking spices a bit - not just for SE Asian type dishes. I used curry leaves for the first time ever yesterday, with some other spices in the rice for a kedgeree, and was delighted with the result - not up to standards of the food Kuc is grigging us with, but tasty enough that I was still feeling pleased hours later.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 28/01/2023 10:43

but not bit

MissLawls · 28/01/2023 11:54

Good morning. Happy birthday @angelico53 - I guess the 53 after your name is bit of a clue!? Hope you have a lovely day. Always good to have birthdays on a Saturday. Especially big ones. I turned 60 on a Saturday and had a lovely day.

Hope everyone is well and happy. I don't post much here because it's not user friendly on my iphone and I don't like coming onto my big computer that much these days since I have retired - YAY! The government is paying me to stay alive. Ah ah ah ah staying alive staying alive.

BezMills · 28/01/2023 12:11

Good morning thread.

Happy birthday notFender!

I'm really not interested in further discussions about the old place, at all.

duc748 · 28/01/2023 12:16

Happy birthday angelico! I'm only a couple of weeks behind you!

TV remotes are indeed rubbish. Which reminds me that ISTR that we were promised at one time that one sooper-dooper remote would do everything: TV, hi-fi, Blu-ray, etc. And we seem to be further away from that than ever. My Virgin box has a remote, the TV has two remotes, the sound-bar has a remote...

Tricyrtis2022 · 28/01/2023 12:19

Nor me and I don't understand why we're supposed to go back there and search out this message that's been left for us. What's the point?

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 28/01/2023 12:22

It's another attempt to establish dominance. pffft!

MissLawls · 28/01/2023 12:24

I think it's understandable to pick at a scab for a bit. Like a long relationship ending it never just ends one day and it's over the following one. It takes time. But it's great when you wake up one day and you no longer care. Indifference is liberation.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 28/01/2023 12:25

I am a little sorry the ATBU thread there is off limits to me for a while, as I'm not sure I would have noticed the splendidly entertaining Pate thread here without it. I commend the pate thread to anyone who wants some amusement, or who wishes to experience an overwhelming food craving, or both. www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4728502-surely-nobody-can-eat-a-pack-of-pate?page=1

MavisMcMinty · 28/01/2023 12:36

Gorgeous beautiful food pics, Kuc!

My niece lived in Singapore for the first two years of her life, and my sister and BIL mainly ate at hawker centres, so niece had a very sophisticated palate and would eat foods her cautious unadventurous aunt wouldn’t dream of trying.

Britinme · 28/01/2023 13:07

Good morning from me, five hours behind everyone (except Kuc at the moment where it's more than that) and happy birthday to Angelico. Only 70? Spring chicken. Enjoy the enormo-telly and any other goodies that come your way today. I am salivating over Kuc's food pics while looking out of the window at the snow. My husband, god bless him, cleared off the driveway with the snowblower and a shovel, and the city plough has cleared the streets, so the roads are ok and we can go and do our shopping later.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 28/01/2023 13:20

Many happy returns, Angelico!

(I agree about TV remotes - very badly designed.)

This is Merlin. Every Saturday, Merlin has an egg (he's very particular about preparation - cooked but still runny yolk only), and his owner makes a short film: twitter.com/MartinM_Media/status/1619302214127828992?

CyanCrystalViolet · 28/01/2023 13:31

I was hoping Merlin was going to be a cat. What a sweet boy, I hope he feels better soon. Kasper used to love egg yolk until one day.. he didn’t. Cats Hmm

CyanCrystalViolet · 28/01/2023 13:36

5 month old K curled up on my desk and next to his second favourite thing in the world (after me of course). Just noticed how unbushy his tail was when I was little.

SinnerBoy · 28/01/2023 13:36

He's a beautiful mog, isn't he?

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 28/01/2023 13:43

The cats sometimes (but not always) like to lick the leftover egg yolk and butter off my breakfast plate. I try to keep the distribution fair, but neither of them is ever fully convinced.
