Thread 4 - TalkExiles: "The Planet Goes On Being Round"

1000 replies

Kucinghitam · 13/01/2023 17:17

Continuation of previous lifeboat threads 1 & 2 & 3.

Gather here all ye refugees from the JTT Flat Earth Society, welcome to the reassuringly oblate spheroid of MN! Ye all already know the answers to the questions "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

So really we're all here just to chat randomly.

I am still lurking on JtT, struggling to fit here or there tbh.

Sorry to hear that, @dollymixedup

I was wondering if anyone would notice that!

SinnerBoy · 19/01/2023 15:40

I think it's friendly here.

Tricyrtis2022 · 19/01/2023 16:28

It does seem pretty friendly, though I have seen Threads of Rage from time to time. The only thing I miss about the other place was that the refresh icon was handy.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 19/01/2023 16:32

I haven't yet worked out formatting and miss the ability to edit. It doesn't heel like home - but I realise that may come - and it is very big.

Ginmonkeyagain · 19/01/2023 16:33

Its hard to land in jokes and flippant comments here but I think that is a function of a much larger community. The other palace is like a family with in jokes and its own language built up over decades.

Tricyrtis2022 · 19/01/2023 16:49

@Ginmonkeyagain, know what you mean. I suppose we can develop our own jokes and whimsies.

We Will Rebuild!

MavisMcMinty · 19/01/2023 16:55

I’m off to my Dad’s for the weekend, and just remembered in time that my toenails need cutting, a job macman has undertaken for almost 30 years, so instead of driving off into the dark, I’m in the kitchen with my feet in a bowl of hot soapy water. Seriously horrific, good job they’re covered in bubbles, the nail ends are easily as long as the nailbeds themselves, truly, truly disgusting. I only notice them in the bath, as my feet are covered at all other times in winter.

duc748 · 19/01/2023 17:15

I am pretty surprised by how little I miss the old place, tbh, I expected a bigger emotional pull, but it hasn't really happened. It's mostly the sport threads I miss, the snooker and rugby etc. The TV threads, like Happy Valley, are great here, thanks to the big user base.

Tricyrtis2022 · 19/01/2023 17:17

Mavis, if your toenails are so long don't you get holes in your socks?

MavisMcMinty · 19/01/2023 17:19

No! And macman keeps his nails very short and tidy, and he gets holes in all his socks! All cut now, so much more attractive, not that anyone sees them.

MavisMcMinty · 19/01/2023 17:23

Just wish my fingernails grew so long’n’strong.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 19/01/2023 17:28

Sooner or later I'm going to have to start asking the woman who did my parents' toenails to come and do mine - it seems simultaneously luxurious and elderly. I just about manage to do my own, but my feet get further away all the time.

Ginmonkeyagain · 19/01/2023 17:29

Or get seriously in to yoga.

Tricyrtis2022 · 19/01/2023 17:52

The length of my toenails plays a large part in my sense of well being and I get very uncomfortable if they're too long. It drives me nuts.

My dear old dad used to get his done by a chiropractor and said he felt like a 'big daddy gorilla' because he'd be just sat there while a 'small female' played with his feet. My step mother does them now.

Ginmonkeyagain · 19/01/2023 18:36

I like to have pretty feet. I keep my toenails neatly clipped and painted different colours (they are currently gold).

If I am feeling fancy I will pay a professional to do it.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 19/01/2023 18:36

sensible advice Gin - or even start doing the back-strengthening exercises regularly. Though even with that, I slightly hanker after A. with her big black box of fancy scissors and cotton wool and surgical spirit.

Britinme · 19/01/2023 20:01

My feet are never pretty, so I skip the painting toenails part, but so far I can manage to cut them myself.

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 19/01/2023 20:08

Me too Gin. It's one of my few gestures towards feminity, having well-trimmed and colourful toenails. They cheer me up. I never bother about painting my nails, but I do like bright toes.

MrPSB complains if they get too long, because they get sharp and have been known to draw blood from him...

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 19/01/2023 20:22

The edit button is the main thing I miss about the old place. And the ability to start less serious threads without having to add a big, flashing LIGHTHEARTED sign.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 19/01/2023 20:23

My feet are best not commented on. They do the job they are meant to do, so I'm happy to not ask more of them.

Gonners · 19/01/2023 20:29

My feet are long, slim and elegant and are definitely my best feature. This is quite tragic, really, in our climate.

duc748 · 19/01/2023 20:30

In other news, I bought a bag of spelt flour, and am trying a bit in my sourdough tonight, but I'm not optimistic, I fear it will turn out a brick. Stretchiness of the dough was drastically reduced. I'll see how it goes later.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 19/01/2023 20:31

My feet are large and used to be usefully functional, but the left one has BETRAYED me by starting a bunion. So unfair after a lifetime of healthy shoes.
