What was the first album you ever owned? Would you still listen to it now?

I was reminded of my first album recently, so had a listen on Spotify... interesting experience! Some of it was exciting and great, some utter crap. It was - going all the way back to 1981- Kings of the Wild Frontier by Adam and the Ants. I was 12.

What was your first album, and do you still like it?

Oasis - what’s the story morning glory. And….
pulp - different class

they were rivals so I bought them both at the same time and listened to them equally. I still listen to a few of their songs but I also discovered blur who were far better.

adidasclassicsanddance · 30/12/2022 20:45

Pulp Different Class. Still love it now!

CockSpadget · 30/12/2022 20:53

Thriller - Michael Jackson. Don’t listen to that particular album start to finish anymore, but do have an MJ Spotify playlist that I listen to now and then.

Think it was what’s the story morning glory (on cassette!) and yes I would and do still listen to it!

When I was seven I begged for, and was given, an album called Echoes of Gold, which, I think, was covers of popular music played on the flute by James Galway. I’d rather eat my own boiled eyeballs than listen to it now.
I was a strange child.

Grin Love this Grin

You must have been a lovely child ❤️ (but yes, slightly strange)

Last minute rush on "What's the Story"... I was 26 when I bought that one.

Surprised nobody else has named my first album. George Michael's Faith.

DeliberatelyObtuse · 30/12/2022 21:08

Blondie - Parallel Lines. I was 10. Absolutely loved it and still do!

Probablymagrat · 30/12/2022 21:11

All the Fun of the Fair by David Essex, 1975. I was 12. I dont have it any more, and no way of playing vinyl if I did. But just had a listen on YouTube, and it was quite good, I still know all the words anyway!

Onesmallstepforaman · 30/12/2022 22:08

Like a pp., mine was Gary glitter. Still like the music , but hate Paul raven.

Bouledeneige · 30/12/2022 23:22

I had bought a few singles before but I think the first Album was probably Outlandos D'Amour by the Police. Not bad really - this thread has made me want to play it again.

I got two at the same time
Madonna's like a virgin and Michael Jackson's thriller.

They were released two years apart.

They were released two years apart.

Why would that make a difference? Both would have been on the shelves at the same time.

IAcceptCookies · 31/12/2022 15:58

I've had a bit of a nostalgia fest and listening to lots of these - especially the 80s ones - even if I wasn't a huge fan at the time.
My second album was Dare by the Human League, enjoyed listening to that again!

First album I remember owning was Superwomble by The Wombles, and yes I occasionally enjoy the odd Wombles track on spotify!

First album I remember choosing was Kings Of The Wild Frontier, and I still play it regularly (though not the vinyl as that's framed on my wall).

First album I bought for myself was Dirk Wears White Sox, and ditto!

functioningadult · 31/12/2022 16:36

Oasis - Definitely Maybe on a cassette tape I still have somewhere. Listened to it again recently and it’s still great.

TitaniasAss · 31/12/2022 17:14

Gary Numan, The Pleasure Principle. Still listen sometimes. 🙂

rumbypumby · 31/12/2022 17:55

Joss stone.
Cant remember the name but it was the right to be wrong song one

LlynTegid · 31/12/2022 17:56

I am not going to name mine, as it was by a relative. It reached the top 20.

IAcceptCookies · 31/12/2022 18:05

@LlynTegid YABU

You could at least give us a clue! 🙃

Why wouldn’t you name it?

I’m closely related to one of Steps. I would bet my house and possibly my life that no one on here could say who I was just from that.

Mumrey · 31/12/2022 20:11

Mine was a David Cassidy album, I'm so old....

As it turns out, my good friend's step uncle was one of the Bay City Rollers; and my babysitter (i.e. who babysat me) used to go out with someone in The Skids (Scottish punk band of the 70s).
Now you all know exactly who I am! 😂

This makes me sound nerdier than I am but my first cassette tape was Uoseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat and my first vinyl record was Jesus Christ Superstar. I absolutely still listen to both but also listen to a lot more edgy stuff. I can't really think of any album I've owned that I wouldn't listen to now.

Mine was Rio by Duran Duran.

Still love it many many many years later!!

And mine 🙂
