What was the first album you ever owned? Would you still listen to it now?

I was reminded of my first album recently, so had a listen on Spotify... interesting experience! Some of it was exciting and great, some utter crap. It was - going all the way back to 1981- Kings of the Wild Frontier by Adam and the Ants. I was 12.

What was your first album, and do you still like it?

Wham! Make it Big. I still listen every now and then. 'Like a baby' will always be on my favourites play list 😍

CockwombleOfWimbledonIsCommon · 29/12/2022 21:09

1981 Dare - The Human League. And yes I would still listen to it now!

Abba Arrival. Still absolutely love it.

The first " Now that's what I call music" album. I played it over and over. Yes, I'd listen to it. In fact I'm going to search for it now...

Wherearemymarbles · 29/12/2022 21:10

London calling - the clash
still listen regularly and still amongst the best album covers of all time

OrangePomander · 29/12/2022 21:10

Same as the op, Kings of the Wild Frontier. I still listen to it, and Adam Ant was an influence for bands I later discovered too.

CockwombleOfWimbledonIsCommon · 29/12/2022 21:11

Others of a similar vintage - Blondie - Parallel Lines, Abbe - Voulez Vous. But we had those on cassette in the car. Dare was on vinyl. I think Rio was probably my second vinyl album (still listen to that, too).

CockwombleOfWimbledonIsCommon · 29/12/2022 21:11

Abba. Not Abbe. FFS to my typing.

Mine was Nik Kershaw - Human Racing on cassette.

DH re-bought it for me on vinyl a few years ago and yes I still listen to it now and then.

Same but the LP. I have some of the tracks on my current play list. I loved him.

MrsAvocet · 29/12/2022 21:13

Blondie - Parallel Lines (1978)
I still have it, and still listen to it sometimes. Though my musical taste has changed quite a lot I still like it and enjoy the memories it evokes.

MassiveSalad22 · 29/12/2022 21:14

I bought BWitched and Billie Piper albums on the same day. Still love BWitched but never really a Billie fan, just bought it because I could 😄

Prior to that, Spice Girls’ first album on cassette and a Disco Divas CD and an amazing compilation of hits from the Sun magazine (the only time my parents would have ever bought the Sun 😄) were played and danced to constantly. But my parents bought those.

Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and yes, still listen to it.

Mine was Beatles for Sale, from Dec 1964. It was in my Christmas list (I was 13)
I don’t have a record player but definitely would still listen to it!

Roxmum14 · 29/12/2022 21:22

Sugarbabes - overloaded (the singles collection)

Neverknowinglysensible · 29/12/2022 21:24

When I was seven I begged for, and was given, an album called Echoes of Gold, which, I think, was covers of popular music played on the flute by James Galway. I’d rather eat my own boiled eyeballs than listen to it now.
I was a strange child.

Hohofortherobbers · 29/12/2022 21:25

Bananarama, WOW! It had 'love in the first degree' on it. 'I want you back' , 'I can't help it' and their cover of 'Nathan Jones' great album... Off to Spotify now to download

ginislife · 29/12/2022 21:28

Cherish, David Cassidy. I still listen to it now cos I bought the CD lol.
First single I bought was the New Seekers, I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing ! No idea why !!

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 29/12/2022 21:32

Trilogy by ELP. Still think it's a great album but am mystified as to why I loved the track 'Hoedown' quite so much.

AsanteSana · 29/12/2022 21:35

Snap @Wherearemymarbles! Still listen to it regularly and it never becomes tiresome.
I think I bought Sioxsie & The Banshees 'Join Hands' at the same time and that gets a regular play too

Squirrelsnut · 29/12/2022 21:40

I think it was Once Upon A Time by Simple Minds. Some cracking tracks like All The Things She Said. I would still listen to it although I much prefer their earlier, weirder stuff.

AutumnOcean · 29/12/2022 21:41

Britney - Oops I did it again album. Still listen to it in the car

catwithflowers · 29/12/2022 21:52

SuffolkBargeWoman · 29/12/2022 20:06

First album I owned
Pinky and Perky's hit parade
I would rather tear my own ears off

First album I chose
Specials Too much too young
Still listen from time to time

Ha! I was given that as a Christmas present 😄. Also Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated 🙈

First album I bought myself was Bowie's Hunky Dory 😍😍😍

CrabDuckDuckCrab · 29/12/2022 21:52

Craig David - Born to Do It, and I absolutely would still listen to it now. Absolute brilliance.

CrabDuckDuckCrab · 29/12/2022 21:54

sageandrosemary · 29/12/2022 20:09

Daniel Bedingfield - Gotta Get Thru This

I still listen to some songs occasionally

I LOVED that, although it is inextricably linked, for me, with the game 'Worms World Party' because I listened to it so much while I played.

Automatic for the People, REM on cassette. Yes, I was a fan for years. Went back to all their early albums when I was a bit older and followed new releases.

And that album is genius! Nightswimming is ❤️
