What was the first album you ever owned? Would you still listen to it now?

I was reminded of my first album recently, so had a listen on Spotify... interesting experience! Some of it was exciting and great, some utter crap. It was - going all the way back to 1981- Kings of the Wild Frontier by Adam and the Ants. I was 12.

What was your first album, and do you still like it?

Culture club: colour by numbers. Don’t love it quite so much now but still brings back memories. 1983.

My first single was Goombay Dance band, seven tears. Still do listen to that for nostalgia😳

Nothing like first album to date you🤣🤣

Kylie on cassette, not sure on the album name but her hat looked like a record. I was about 5 but I'd probably still listen to it to be fair. First CD album was East 17, again I'd still listen to it now.

augustusglupe · 29/12/2022 20:45

ELO - Out of the Blue
When i was a bit older, my first grown up album was Quiet Life by Japan. I still love it.

Jesusmaryjosephandtheweedon · 29/12/2022 20:46

Madonna's True Blue album. I was 7. I loves it. Haven't listened to it for years but still love some of the tracks. True Blue, la Isla Bonita and Papa don't preach were my favourites. Rarely hear any of them played these days.

My first record I ever bought was band aid..

missymousey · 29/12/2022 20:47

For my 9th birthday, along with my Sony Walkman, I got Now 19 and The Simpsons. On tape. I still know all the words to Lisa Simpson's blues 😂

Floralnomad · 29/12/2022 20:48

My first album was ELO blue vinyl copy of Out of The Blue in 1977 and I’m quite happy to still listen to it .

IntentionalError · 29/12/2022 20:48

The first album I owned was the Jungle Book soundtrack, bought for me as a Christmas present.
The first album I bought myself was Rio by Duran Duran. Everyone had a copy of that album, it’s hard to overstate how big the band were in the early 80s. They were one of the first bands in which the music, the look, the big-budget videos were a carefully put together package. Do I still listen to it? Not really, although If I hear the songs on the radio it takes me back to my youth. And John Taylor is still gorgeous.

Debbie Harry - Parallel lines

Barleycat · 29/12/2022 20:52

Culture club, colour by numbers. I would if I had a record player.

DeadDonkey · 29/12/2022 20:54

Great to see Pinky & Perky - I'm sure that was around in our house!

The first albums I remember actually owning as my own were Rio and Seven and the Ragged Tiger and I still have songs from those albums on my playlists.

goldenbag · 29/12/2022 20:57

@Jesusmaryjosephandtheweedon Snap! True Blue aged 7. I still love it.

Always4Brenner · 29/12/2022 20:57

I found the album version of this recently clearing out MILs attic (it had been BIL's). How hideous is the cover! The clothes and make up! I hadn't noticed at the time when I owned it myself because, you know, 80s.

Was that the one with the hidden track?

Yes, there's an unlisted weird instrumental track on it Xmas Confused

DrEllie · 29/12/2022 21:00

My first was the the Grease soundtrack. Would I still listen to it? You bet!💓

passwordnotsecure · 29/12/2022 21:00

MissSkate · 29/12/2022 21:01

First cassette I owned was some 80's compilation tape bought with my first Walkman one Christmas. First cd I ever bought was Bon Jovi - Keep the faith and yep, still listen to it!

TartanCurtains · 29/12/2022 21:02

The Bros Push album, in the limited edition Christmas box. I don't think I ever listened to it at the time, and certainly have no interest in it now 😂

No Parlez - Paul Young

Yes, I still listen 😀

I was absolutely in love with Paul Young when I was younger and yes, I still listen to him now too! Come back and stay is the most played song on my smart speaker! 🙈

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 29/12/2022 21:05

Had that as my second! Also had Soft Cell and Toto.
Went on to love heavy metal. The early 80’s were a learning curve.

Frenchyq25 · 29/12/2022 21:07

New kids on the block step by step, probably wouldn't listen to it now

upinastar · 29/12/2022 21:08

Now 17 and yes I definitely would listen to it now if I still had it. There were some great songs in it 😊
