What was the first album you ever owned? Would you still listen to it now?

I was reminded of my first album recently, so had a listen on Spotify... interesting experience! Some of it was exciting and great, some utter crap. It was - going all the way back to 1981- Kings of the Wild Frontier by Adam and the Ants. I was 12.

What was your first album, and do you still like it?

It came free with my Boots make Walkman rip off cassette player-

Brother Beyond.

Not one of the greats.

OnceRuralNowUrbanbliss · 29/12/2022 21:57

Ha @MarshaBradyo I was listening to that on full blast just today (the Violent Femmes)! It's a great album.

Mine was Colour By Numbers - Culture Club I was about as obsessed by Boy George as anyone could be. He was all I thought about, talked about etc and not an inch of my bedroom walls were without posters of him.

Kim Wilde Kids in America.

Yes, I'd listen to all of my 80s records now. I recently searched for Heaven 17 Penthouse and Pavement and I re purchased Architecture and Morality by OMD

Architecture and Morality was my first album, bought from Romford market with my birthday money. I must give it a listen, haven’t played any OMD in years.
Roger Taylor was my Duran Duran crush too. My husband bought me tickets to see them for Christmas and I am beyond excited!

Jackfrostnipping · 29/12/2022 22:11

Another whose first album was Kylie - LP.
I remember going into town with a gift voucher before we had an HMV. Caroline music I think.

OnceRuralNowUrbanbliss · 29/12/2022 22:17

My first cool album was by The Mighty Wah I gave that a listen the other week too and it was still cool.

TheDogsMother · 29/12/2022 22:19

Michael Jackson Off the Wall. I still listen to tracks of this album.

thenightsky · 29/12/2022 22:21

Alice Cooper's Billion Dollar Babies. Back in the 70s when albums came with posters and sheets of stickers! I paid £3.99, which was considered very expensive back then.

With the Beatles 1963.

I was 11.

I haven't still got it, it was nicked by a "friend" , along with all my Beatles Monthly mags, and other albums, when I was about 18.

I would still listen but wouldn't actually seek it out.

Actually driving from Manchester to Brighton today DH told Siri play Beatles, first time I'd heard any of it for decades but DD was singing along and I was telling them who wrote which song for which girlfriend and who was singing.

Funny how some trivia is seared in your brain.

Sodie · 29/12/2022 22:26

The beatles anthology one on cassette, I was 11 and it was 96. Still my all time favourite. Three of my children have beatles related names also my dog.

GimmeBiscuits · 29/12/2022 22:29

Outlandish D'amour by The Police. Haven't listened to it in ages, but yes, I think I would still like it as I have some of their studf on a current Spotify playlist. Been listening to a lot of older music lately and thoroughly enjoying it.

Mine was Architecture and Morality by Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark. That was 1981 and I was 11. These days I listen to it on Spotify but I think I still have the tape somewhere, Souvenir is a cracking track.

glamourousindierockandroll · 29/12/2022 22:42

I think it was Michael Jackson HIStory from 1995.

ColinRobinsonsFart · 29/12/2022 22:42

King crimson - in the court of the crimson king

it’s still my favourite album of all time and I listen to some of it almost on a daily basis - in the car, when I have a shower….

I have that - in mono!

Bon Jovi - Crossroads, its still got some tunes on it tbf even if I've not listened to them in decades.

The albums the songs on Crossroads are taken from are better than Crossroads.

My first would have been either Kylie, Jason or Culture Club. All on my spotify playlist and I still have my originals on vinyl too.

fussychica · 29/12/2022 22:47

Help by The Beatles on reel to reel tape as we didn't have a record player. Sounds mental but it's true. I was 10. Still a great album.

geminiflanagan · 29/12/2022 22:48

That I bought myself? With my first proper pay packet I bought The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill and Californication by Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Still listen to both, 25 years later and feel a shiver of nostalgia!

SortinMyMH · 29/12/2022 22:48

Take that. Everything changes album

No wouldn't listen now

whoruntheworldgirls · 29/12/2022 22:51

Now 30 on cassette and on cd vengaboys 😂

Cocolapew · 29/12/2022 22:52

Little Jimmy Osmond when I was 5 and had been brave at the dentist, not in any hurry to re-listen tbh.
Then I got Abba greatest hits, the gatefold cover with them sitting on the bench. Still love Abba.

Rolypolyfishheads · 29/12/2022 22:53

I think mine was The Secret of Association by Paul Young when I was about 8. I definitely would not enjoy listening to that now!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 29/12/2022 22:56

With the Beatles - in the 60s.

Then I left it by mistake at a landlady’s house, and by the time I remembered a week or so later her grandson had nicked it. 🙁
Yes, I’d def. listen again.

MrsDrDear · 29/12/2022 23:02

Kate Bush - The Kick Inside for my 9th birthday.
Listened to it religiously, knew every word and song order.

I listen to greatest hits compilation now.
