When do you take down the Christmas decorations?

I am always itching to do it on Boxing Day. I don't, but I want to. I usually last until New year's Eve, but I think this year has felt really unchristmassy and I want everything taken down now! I will keep it up for the kids but does anyone else just want it all put away?

Today! 😂 I took them all down this afternoon. They were just play things for the cats really, no children, just me, so I did as I wanted 😁

Mine came down last night...all out away this morning....house all cleaned ready for new year

Went to a wonderful festive thing in some woods today. It was like part trial involving fairies and Christmas and wishes and things. And the other half was a Christmas story which was acted out

Ours went up 10th December and will be coming down probably NYD as it's the last weekend day before work starts again. I usually hate taking them down because I love December and Christmas, but we only moved into our new house on the 5th of this month so I kind of want to get the house back to normal so we can get used to it! Most people round here take them down around then, although I love walking round in the early days of January and seeing homes still twinkling away. It cheers me up and makes me feel weirdly nostalgic!

Why do you have up decorations that drive you mad? Maybe you should scale them back to things you like? You could have a smaller tree or a more muted tree or whatever suits you and make everything else more minimal. I get that all the piles of new toys and extra visitor's stuff is annoying and I'm currently spending all my time keeping on top of the kitchen with extra people in the house but the decorations really shouldn't be annoying.

What don't you get? ...... trees are decs are wonderful til the 25th ....then they are very irritating and need to come down ......far better to have them up 1st December then down before New year

What I don't get is why you have decorations up that drive you mad and put them up so early. Maybe try having less decorations up just for the traditional dates of Christmas Eve to Twelfth Night and maybe you won't then find they so irritating. What you are doing at the moment clearly doesn't work for you if it drives you mad.

Why would they want them up longer? They drive me mad now. The tree looks mess. I need to dust and hoover under things that can't be done properly until they've all been shifted. I can't wait until they're all away tomorrow/Friday. Christmas is well and truly over in this house!

Numbat2022 · 28/12/2022 22:38

You don't need to dust. No-one ever needs to dust.

I have 4 cats. I can tell you for sure that I 100% need to dust and hoover my bat window and the TV cabinet.

Furries · 28/12/2022 22:47

I want a bat window - could have been helpful when trying to get this little chap out of my living room.

Daft bloody phone 🤣 I want a bat window too!! And is that a live now picture?! I want a bat!🦇

@AllThingsServeTheBeam - made me chuckle. It’s not a live now photo, it’s from the summer.

Santasjingleballs · 28/12/2022 23:07

Usually March time. We’ll get rid the tree

limitededitionbarbie · 28/12/2022 23:35

Not tomorrow as my DH is fixing our boiler that broke in Xmas eve. Maybe Friday.

January 6th. They go up a week before sometimes later and stay up for the 12 days. I find it sad that Christmas is increasingly reduced to one day

Yep, us too: tree up roughly a week / 10 days before Christmas Eve, stays up until Jan 6 (although my friend's family used to celebrate the 'old Christmas' and decorations came down on 6 Jan, but greenery and lights stayed up until 2 Feb, which I liked).
