Thread 3 - TalkExiles: "The Planet Goes On Being Round"

Kucingsparkles · 21/12/2022 06:14

Continuation of previous lifeboat threads 1 and 2.

Gather here all ye refugees from the JTT Flat Earth Society, welcome to the reassuringly oblate spheroid of MN! Ye all already know the answers to the questions "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

So really we're all here just to chat randomly.

I've just contributed to that one.

MavisMcMinty · 28/12/2022 13:05

Lots of the AIBUs that catch my eye are later deleted by MN.

MavisMcMinty · 28/12/2022 13:07

Probably because I’m attracted to the loonier outrageous unbelievable ones. The Yuletide Log Cutting one will be fine.

Tricyrtis2022 · 28/12/2022 13:07

I noticed the yule log one and will check it out later. Currently wondering what's going to happen here and whether or not the neighbour's family have stayed in the poster's house: www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4706690-wont-stop-asking

Britinme · 28/12/2022 13:08

Love the Yule log thread.

Those key-holding neighbours have got some front!

Those key-holding neighbours have got some front!

I've lost the link to that thread - can you remind me please?

Tricyrtis2022 · 28/12/2022 14:37

It's a few posts up, Brit.

MavisMcMinty · 28/12/2022 14:38

Oh duh...

Dotellhimpike · 28/12/2022 15:01

My gast has been well and truly flabbered by the key holding neighbours, I mean who does that?

angelico53 · 28/12/2022 15:45

Can I have a bit of a whinge? I'm going to anyway, cos I feel crap.

I've got a chronic condition that causes abdo pain amongst other stuff. It (or something else; I'm in the middle of tests) also causes me to throw up, usually in the morning, most days. Problem is, I have usually taken my morning meds, which are strong painkillers and steroids, beforehand. If the wretched things come back immediately I can simply take some more.

But if it's 30m-1hr, I don't know what's best. On occasion I take a half dose. Today nothing and it's pretty bad now but I'm holding out until my official next dose time.

I thought I'd map out the levels of the drug in my blood, using half-life data, to check how it might vary with a different regime (maybe 4 times a day not twice) but of course it's modified release anyway and I haven't the brains to do it. If anyone here knows anything about the pharmokinetics of this stuff (oxy), don't hide your light! I was thinking that I'll delay everything except a half dose of oxy until later in the morning - see if that stops the throwing up - but I'm worried about the combined effect of a delayed dose and a regular dose.

I need to talk to a pharmacologist, don't I?

MavisMcMinty · 28/12/2022 15:51

My first thought is that it’s the Oxy causing the vomiting, based purely on my own experience of opioids - is it possible to delay that until the steroids have definitely been absorbed?

SqueakyDinosaur · 28/12/2022 15:54

Angelico, if you are still on the old place, Sabacious is the poster to ask. He's medical academic specialising in pain and treatments. Can always be found by posting a question on Lost.

bignosebignose · 28/12/2022 16:00

I’m watching the Neighbour With Key thread too, sounds like we should find out what’s up in about an hour.

angelico53 · 28/12/2022 16:17

Thanks - might be the opioids, of course, but I had these symptoms before I was on them. Surgeon was very pleased at one point that she had untangled some bits that she though was causing it, but she hadn't. (I mean, she'd pretty much saved my life, so I'm not complaining).

Very good idea about Sab, but having left I don't feel quite right doing that. I think I'll have to follow it up with the pain clinic.

IReallyLikeCrows · 28/12/2022 16:49

I have nothing helpful to add but I'm so sorry that you're having to deal with this, @angelico53 .

CyanCrystalViolet · 28/12/2022 16:51

@angelico53 speak to a pharmacist, they are the drug experts and should be able to help.

IReallyLikeCrows · 28/12/2022 16:56

My COVID test pack arrived this morning and it came as no surprise to me that I don't have COVID. The good thing is I can go to the walk in clinic. Not going today as there is definite mild improvement (huzzah!) But as it waxes and wanes at least I know I can if I feel like shite again tomorrow.

I met the cat from upstairs today. I heard my neighbour arrive home and asked if I could meet him, wanted to know if he was the cat on my terrace. He is not. He is an utterly stunning big fluffy, blue-eyed, Siamese coloured Persian type cat. Neighbour and I are now set up for mutual cat feeding so all is good. I want her to go away soon so I can spend time with her big old beasty.

Tricyrtis2022 · 28/12/2022 17:23

How horrible for you, angelico, I hope you can find the advice you need. Pharmacists are often my first port of call and they're really helpful.

Hope the improvement continues, Crows. The upstairs cat sounds rather lovely.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 28/12/2022 17:24

Glad you've ruled out Covid, Crows.

Angelico, would it be feasible to move your whole daily meds schedule by an hour or so, in the hope that you then get the vomiting over and done with beforehand? (A later night dose might mean you could manage without immediate pain meds in the morning?)

My main recommendation would be to talk to a pharmacist and your consultant, but if it were me I'd try time shifting as an interim measure while waiting for their suggestions. Provided that's doable with any 'take with/before/after food' and similar requirements.

angelico53 · 28/12/2022 17:42

That's also a possibility, crows, thank you - and thanks for all your advice. I also have to balance working and being a decent man while having blasted cold turkey, which is horrible, even on my reasonably moderate dose.

I periodically enter periods of wanting to get rid of the stuff completely, until I miss a dose or throw it back, and have a day like today. I forget how rotten neuropathic pain is. It doesn't feel like any other.

I have a suspicion, however, that I'm just a wussy man. I bet it's similar to endometriosis, which lots of women have, and doubtless have it with a good deal less fuss than me. From today's experience, I'm stuck with oxy forever. I spoke to my pain consultant and he's of the same wretched view, and was able to shoot down all my suggestions last time I saw him. Dang and dang.

angelico53 · 28/12/2022 17:45

I typed "crows" then, when I meant Binturong, sorry!

Thanks to all (and now I'm sounding like Tolstoy! Anyone remeber him?)

SinnerBoy · 28/12/2022 17:58

Sorry for your woes, Angelico and I really hope you can get it sorted.
