Just catching up. So sorry to read about your sibling L1ttledrummerGirl. It must be incredibly frustrating and frightening. It just just shouldnt be happening.

Nokes has commented that the Menopause Task Force hasn't met since before the summer recess. The industry round table meeting about HRT supplies has been delayed a number of times.

"Healthcare for women in the UK is as bad as Kazakhstan and worse than that provided in China, a poll suggests.

Britain came below the US, Australia, New Zealand, France and Germany in the 2021 Hologic Global Women’s Health Index out today.

The government has been criticised for “glacial” progress on efforts to improve treatment for the menopause.

Analysts said the UK’s ranking was down to poor access to preventative care, such as screening for cancer, diabetes and blood pressure, diagnosis of causes of pain and mental health support." From the Times.

But lets worry that men might be discriminated about and complain about the economically inactive over 50's.

Just heard this on the news.

They said some ministers are concerned it'll "discriminate against men".

Think that's the real crux of it Angry

I just heard that excuse on the news as well Angry

Oh poor men. We must protect the bloody patriarchy at all costs.

Oh FFS

The process used to appoint BBC chairman Richard Sharp will be reviewed - Commissioner of Public Appointments William Shawcross.

William Shawcross is the father of Emily Shawcross who was appointed head of the No10 Policy Unit by Rishi Sunak in October. She had previously donated £20,000 to his Tory leadership bid.

I relly thought they couldn't get worse than they were before their wipeout in 1997, but here we are. And people are so much more polarised these days that we can't even have high hopes of getting rid of them.

Notonthestairs · 24/01/2023 10:49

The madness of Westminster - they all seem to be related or have worked for each other or have benefited in some way (contacts/contracts).
Heaven help me, I'm starting to see Trump's point about draining the swamp.

CriticalAlert · 24/01/2023 14:07

We have a Tory government that have no interest in governing. To them it's all about making as much money as they can and screwing up the situation for the rest of us. They're taking the NHS away from us. They have taken the country to its knees and the Daily Heil spews its fascist message of hate and states that people on benefits are doing better financially than those in work. How did it come to this?

Blossomtoes · 24/01/2023 14:19

Just listened to The World at One. The consensus was that this government is now in huge trouble with no realistic way out of it. They interviewed Zahawi’s former special adviser whose only defence was to say what a nice man he is. Tory MPs have finally tired of being asked to defend their colleagues’ appalling behaviour; none of them would agree to be interviewed. Surely to God it’s time for an election, I reckon a lot of them would vote their party down in a no confidence motion.

Cornettoninja · 24/01/2023 14:31

Tory MPs have finally tired

along with most of the population. It’s just relentless.

I’m still following closely but am honestly fatigued with it now. As far as I can see a GE is the only realistic option although I don’t have particularly high hopes for the calibre of many candidates. It’s a small ambition but we just need a period of calm and purposeful leadership to sort out the utter carnage this lot have wrought on the country.

Hopefully breaking the cycle of shite will allow newer talent to emerge from all the political parties.

DowningStreetParty · 24/01/2023 16:01

We should have had an election when Johnson was made to ‘resign’ instead of the awful protracted internal power struggle in the Tory party which is STILL playing out and has taken their eyes of the ball completely around post Brexit recovery, post Covid recovery and cost of living crisis recovery not to mention action on the housing crisis and climate crisis action.

This government is a self indulgence of the Conservatives that the country just can’t afford right now.

itsgettingweird · 24/01/2023 16:24

Blossomtoes · 24/01/2023 08:56

Oh poor men. We must protect the bloody patriarchy at all costs.

That's what it screams doesn't it?

Aside from the fact men cannot and don't have a menopause is cleverly ignored. Alongside the fact they are protected by anything they do have based on their sex as sex is a protected characteristic.

Maybe instead of discriminating against woman to protect the poor men they should also look at a task force to protect the rights of any men going through anything solely suffered by men.

Interestingly off the top of my head I cannot think if anything.

But I am worried they'll start to erode maternity rights as they will class as discriminating against men too Angry

A few more Zahawi stories

twitter.com/Gabriel_Pogrund/status/1617803571294244864?t=buLKE96n9jEIebwQTRhRoQ&s=19
Nadhim Zahawi held undisclosed meeting with Kremlin-linked warlord claiming to represent Libya

The presence of Zahawi, who met the man at behest of lobbyist friend Mark Fullbrook, was later used to challenge Britain’s foreign policy

twitter.com/marcusleroux/status/1617921569321553920?t=buLKE96n9jEIebwQTRhRoQ&s=19
A small development on the Nadhim Zahawi story: we can say categorically that he has an expensive mortgage with an offshore business owned by his parents. The Bank of Mum and Dad in a very literal and quite unusual sense. [a short thread]

Wow. How is he still in a job?

DuncinToffee · 24/01/2023 21:08

And another story, DM this time, link in tweet.

Nadhim Zahawi's family lived in Cotswolds mansion in breach of planning conditions

“The ROC stated that occupation of the property was limited 'to a person solely or mainly working, or last working' in local equestrian activities, agriculture or forestry”

Soothsayer1 · 24/01/2023 22:16

he's got dirt on people?

Maybe. Either that or he's kept in place by his mates who really don't think morals are important.

Blossomtoes · 24/01/2023 23:34

I don’t think this lot would recognise a moral if it tripped them up.

DuncinToffee · 25/01/2023 08:40

Any morals that were left, went with Johnson

And I have seen this question being asked a lot

why a man receiving £156K plus endless entitlements and gifts, & vast additional sums from speeches and Telegraph columns needed at least an £800,000 credit facility with such urgency.

OP posts:
Notonthestairs · 25/01/2023 08:47

Apparently he had a £300,000 tax bill (accumulated pre PM) which he clearly hadn't set aside money for. I suppose at least he paid it - low bar and all that.
But he did have free accommodation, food, decoration, bills and transport costs covered.

countrygirl99 · 25/01/2023 08:49

Perhaps having to pay tax came as a surprise.
