Continuation of previous thread.

Gather here all ye refugees from the foundering ship of JTT, if ye be in need of "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

Or just to chat randomly.

My aged MiL doesn;t eschew any help but takes great delight in complaining about anything LadyK does for her. It's got particularly bad recently to the point when I asked what she was getting her mum for Xmas LadyK suggested "a one way ticket to Switzerland". I think she was joking...

Tricyrtis2022 · 07/12/2022 17:53

My dad's talked about a ticket to Switzerland but my step mother won't allow it.

Would you like an entire Karcher window vac including charger? Since we got double glazing a couple of years ago, ours has been sitting in the hall cupboard of doom.

Thanks for the kind offer - but please pass it on to someone more deserving, I can get a charger off ebay or something.

duc748 · 07/12/2022 19:13

In yet another 'duh' moment, I've only just realised that 'Glinner' = Graham Linehan. 🙄

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 07/12/2022 20:00

I think I threw away the original charger for our (fabulous, thanks for the recommendation) window vac, not realising its importance.

Kärcher supplied a new one, but it doesn't fit quite as well as the original. But still, thank you, German companies for offering spare parts sensibly . See also Bosch fridges with replacements for ancient plastic basket things.

Damn you French company (Magimix) for not allowing me to buy replacements for some of my Magimix things, but not all.

I have replaced so many bits of my Bosch stick blender over the years I’m wondering how much is left of the one I bought other than the important bit with the motor in it. But I treated myself to a new one in a Black Friday sale and it’s made me realise that I should have moved on years ago. Soup is much speedier now!

Is anyone interested in an 'elderly parents' thread I'm thinking of starting in the folder of the same name? Mine are Resistant to Help and I'm very frustrated.

My elderly parent accepts help all too willingly, to the extent that I don’t get to do much else these days. I’ll seek out your thread though.

"I bought a dehumidifier a week ago and so far it's removing 12 litres every 20 hours and we're still on 70% humidity."

I've always found it takes a few weeks to get the humidity down to a stable level. It should settle eventually.

weaseleyes · 07/12/2022 21:13

That's reassuring, bint, thank you! I know there's an underlying problem or two causing the dampness - above and beyond being in a Victorian terrace - but I can't afford to get it investigated right now, so hoped dehumidifying would at least stave off potential sodden doom a little longer.

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 07/12/2022 21:20

How do you find out the humidity level?

CyanCyan · 07/12/2022 21:25

My dehumidifier tells me the humidity level when it’s running, but you can buy little thermostat/humidity displays for a few quid.

Sashohoho · 07/12/2022 21:37

My baby dehumidifier arrived today for upstairs. as the condensation is bad in a.m.'s.I'm going to leave it on all night. It's quiet, unlike the large one that I have on downstairs. This is the main source of damp.
With the heated throw, and the hoodie, and the eco dimple heater, which turns itself on and off, I still haven't gone above 2-3 hours a day.
We'll see. Though my heat this eve, maybe due to a slight temperature, will take a test in the morning.
I keep reading this thread header as Lifeboat Muster Point for Tax Exiles.

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 07/12/2022 21:39

So do I Sasha!

Thanks Cyan: excited to find out our humidity level, as the dehumidifier doesn't show it.

CyanCyan · 07/12/2022 22:15

It has just occurred to me that we haven’t had a cat picture on this thread yet, so here is K in his sleepy refined gentleman of a winter evening pose

Awww. I adore blue cats.

Kucingsparkles · 08/12/2022 09:03

It's another freezing day. Clear skies again overnight - each morning when we walk to the bus stop with our DC, we've been admiring Mars and the waxing moon.

WFH today so we have the woodburner going and Phoebe enjoying.

That looks like what we call The Long Struggle.

CyanCyan · 08/12/2022 09:16

Beautiful and cosy

weaseleyes · 08/12/2022 09:49

Excellent cat pictures. Here is one of my furry buffoons, currently sleeping precariously on a stack of the guinea pigs' sawdust, so that when he moves he can scatter it liberally about the house. Because the cat fur just doesn't make things quite grubby enough by itself...

I’m forever sweeping up scattered cat litter in the bathroom. Actually that’s a lie, I’m forever ignoring it and very occasionally sweeping.

Plush close-up this morning

WFH today so we have the woodburner going and Phoebe enjoying.

I feel ashamed, our wood burner door is filthy and you can barely see through it! I'm not putting it on till this afternoon, I'm home alone. It was -2° last night, lots of puddles frozen solid on the dog walk.

Tricyrtis2022 · 08/12/2022 10:05

So is ours. I keep looking at it and thinking 'I should really clean that' but then don't do anything about it. Perhaps today will be the day?

Kucingsparkles · 08/12/2022 10:12

We don't clean our woodburner door Confused

weaseleyes · 08/12/2022 10:14

I wish I had a woodburner going. Current WFH temperature is 14.1. I'm about to get a hot water bottle. This morning's energy bill reflects the difference between not having put the heating on and having had it on for the past month. I feel poor, cold and fed up.

weaseleyes · 08/12/2022 10:15

Of course, I am being very self-pitying, and I can't bear to think what it must be like for people who don't have homes right now.
