Continuation of previous thread.

Gather here all ye refugees from the foundering ship of JTT, if ye be in need of "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

Or just to chat randomly.

I like "JTT exiles: the planet goes on being round”.

I've seen other chat thread titles here that are clearly long-running community zones, so I don't see why it should be a problem. It makes it easy for JTTers to find; and if others want to drop in they can either join in and we'll make new friends, or they'll decide we're odd and pootle off again.

Gonners · 20/12/2022 19:01

Yes, Binturong - The Archers thread here (currently Archers thread #143 + subtitle) is a good example. Numbering them might be an idea? Obviously I hope we wouldn't get anywhere near that number!

angelico53 · 20/12/2022 19:41

Just as long as we stay together, with any new visitors as welcome as a welcome thing. I take genuine delight in you lot. I've realised since leaving JtT that most of the posters I have followed (in a JtT sense) are here now.

As someone said, though, Greenie will be missed, and dear Rainy on the cancer thread. I did wonder about dropping a note to CaroleB and Clare/bibberty but I feel it's not my place and that some of you might have done so already.

(Graduate students of JtT might like to know that Jacob Richter made a brief appearance on the RIP Terry thread. I missed JR when he left the site.)

MissLawls · 20/12/2022 19:48

I'd like to keep the ex-JtTers' threads going for now. I am enjoying our chat. Feels like a bit of a halfway house between leaving JtT and fully integrating into mumsnet. A transition.

Winterborne74 · 20/12/2022 19:56

I thought JR often brought something interesting especially on the history threads but firmly anti-terf.

bignosebignose · 20/12/2022 20:41

As I’ve said before, I would very much miss this little friendly thread so hope it carries on. Can’t see what harm it does to the wider MN community, especially since we are all strolling around the wider area now anyway. This is just our little quiet corner to retreat to when we fancy it; our pub from the working day.

I very much like Jacob and I could probably say that no other single poster on GUT / JTT made me question - and sometimes change - my opinions more than he did (mostly on one topic) while there being no chance that he will change my view on the pretty major current bone of contention that brought us all here. But if he happens to look in on this thread - I wave a hello of genuine friendship.

artant · 20/12/2022 22:41

I’m rubbish at keeping up with threads so I hope this continues as it’s my best chance of staying in touch and I like you lot! (I’m reading the women’s rights thread when I remember and dipping into other threads but the discussion has usually moved on by the time I get to the end.)

I’m so behind the times with everything that I’ve only just got round to putting the Christmas tree up and my cake remains a bag of ingredients and a dollop of optimism.

You're still ahead of us. We've been away for a couple of weeks, so haven't even started Xmas prep.

Cards are done, and presents for the people we've been visiting, but decorating won't be until Thursday at the earliest.

artant · 20/12/2022 22:51

I don’t have the excuse of having been anywhere but that still makes me feel better!

I’ve managed to sort out a few presents (toys for my great nephews and wine for adults who drink it) but there are big gaps in terms of present buying that really should be sorted out.

SqueakyDinosaur · 20/12/2022 23:10

This is not quite right on here, but also not on the Women's Rights thread, so:

Guess how many posts there have been on the still-allowed Feminism thread on JTT since the exodus?

Eight. In the last 25 days. I mean, it's not like there's been anything happening that people might talk about, eh? (Lisa Keogh, the Scottish Parliament...

SqueakyDinosaur · 20/12/2022 23:11

I guess it just shows how easy and unproblematic feminism is if you exclude all those nasty TERFS.

duc748 · 21/12/2022 00:52

And of course, meanwhile, we're seeing some very big issues cropping up on an almost daily basis right here.

IReallyLikeCrows · 21/12/2022 04:12

Whoever starts the new thread it's helpful to post a link to it in the old thread, i.e here, so people can find it easily.

Kucingsparkles · 21/12/2022 06:15

I've started the new thread (links to previous lives in header) - don't all rush over there yet, we still have a space on this one.

You'd think there would at least have been some triumphantly Righteous agreement with the Haldane thing, or ScotGov's omnishambles victorious legislation last night, seeing as it's what they claim to so fervently support that opposing views had to be gagged, and that they're so obsessed about that they have to come and lurk on MN to confirm that they were right about our Bad Souls.

SinnerBoy · 21/12/2022 07:42

Apparently, it might contravene the human rights of rapists, if they are refused a GRC. Their right to freedom, if convicted, is removed when they go to prison. Where are the lawsuits for contravening that one?

GhostOrchid · 21/12/2022 08:55

Just to delurk and say hello. I’m opheliac from FU. I was only ever a lurker and (very occasional poster). Some of you will know me quite well, and others not at all.

Tricyrtis2022 · 21/12/2022 09:02

Hello GhostOrchid, what's FU?

GhostOrchid · 21/12/2022 09:10

Film Unlimited on the old Guardian talk boards. It was a bit of a separate community and had a reputation for being cliquey but there was some cross pollination.

GhostOrchid · 21/12/2022 09:12

Sorry. My original post was bad (oh for an edit function). I lurked and occasionally posted on JTT, I meant to say.

Winterborne74 · 21/12/2022 09:23

The name Unlimited in the old Guardian Talkboard format really belongs to a different era, when the internet seemed to offer up endless, exciting new possibilities for global communication and interaction. It always makes me feel a bit wistful when I think back to those times and see where we’re ended up. (This is why human beings can’t have nice things).

Hello GhostOrchid. I recognise the name opheliac but not sure we ever crossed paths. I only visited FU once or twice, I didn’t notice it being cliquey but it was difficult to dip into because it seemed full of very knowledgeable people, and although I was interested in films I rarely had anything to add.

Kucingsparkles · 21/12/2022 10:10

Hello @GhostOrchid ! I remember your username, despite barely ever going into the Film area.

GhostOrchid · 21/12/2022 11:41

Hello! I am also married to a Football talker who remains an occasional poster on JTT and had remained aloof from recent shenanigans.

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 21/12/2022 13:20

I'm so tempted to go back to That Place and start a thread to celebrate what the Scottish Gov is up to, especially their preservation of the human rights of rapists. I suspect the Guardian isn't covering this, so TRSOH may not be aware.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 21/12/2022 13:20

Hello, opheliac. Definitely remember seeing you around.
