Continuation of previous thread.

Gather here all ye refugees from the foundering ship of JTT, if ye be in need of "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

Or just to chat randomly.

Yes, the cars outside are covered in large ice crystals. I'm glad I banked the fire with coal, last night.

Tricyrtis2022 · 09/12/2022 08:35

Morning. Cold, isn't it.

Colder than a penguin's chuff.

Tricyrtis2022 · 09/12/2022 08:51

Thick frost here too, looks more like light snow.

Dotellhimpike · 09/12/2022 08:56

Going back to something Grace said on either this or the previous Muster Thread. I stuck with the other place for so long because I thought it was offering something unique in terms of quality banter and discussions but once you start looking around you see that not only is this not true and there is quality in other places, what the other place has turned into is the same predictible cynical set of responses to most things.

I've just been reading the thread here on MN about the BBC show The Traitors and it has been a real pleasure, reminded me of how much I enjoyed not just the early series of Big Brother but reading people's comments on GUT and its descendants, how much people are enjoying it, who likes who, who hates who etc. If there was a similar thread over there now, I am pretty sure it would be mostly people slagging it off and saying how shit it is, doing their best to ruin it for anyone who was enjoying it.

I am now a little pissed off with myself I stuck with the other place for so long, and kept going back.

Kucingsparkles · 09/12/2022 09:02

MN is a much bigger place with a much wider demographic. Makes it feel a bit scary at first, and also there are far more opportunities for ill-tempered clashes.

But the very fact of its size means that there are so many areas of interest and expertise.

For example, I don't watch very much TV-type stuff, but turns out there is a dedicated BBC Ghosts fanbase here - which is delightful to me (and also they gave us the idea for where we went last half-term, to visit the location where it is shot).

Thing is, pike, for a long time it was a really good place. I have fond memories of the running commentary on the Survivors series, at times it was hilarious and people said they enjoyed it more than the programme itself.

Maybe, as the number of members dropped, that's when the rot set in and division became so obvious and so mean.

Dotellhimpike · 09/12/2022 09:13

"Thing is, pike, for a long time it was a really good place."

It was, and I loved the Big Brother threads in the early days, the show itself was supplemental to the entertainment you'd get from those.

Tricyrtis2022 · 09/12/2022 09:24

I was always impressed by the fast wit shown on those threads, something I could never quite match myself.

Still, all gone now, but we have the memories of the good times.

And so is this. He has a heart-shaped nose. He looks a bit mean here but he's the softest beasty boy.

He is the absolute spitting image of my dopey boy

Nice cat.

Wondering about all the cardboard. Was it for fuel or just kindling?

angelico53 · 09/12/2022 10:29

We had a lovely room in our last house, with a fab Morso woodburner. I occasionally managed to get the chimney pipe red hot, but never the stove itself.

We were looking after Jazz, a cat who looked like a small Freisian (sp?) cow. One day we were sitting round the woodburner, talking about Jazz, who we hadn't seen for a couple of days, when a small paw emerged from the chimney. There was a sort of shelf a metre or so above the fireplace, made from a modern version of asbestos, I should think, and Jazz had gone up the chimney and settled on it. It must have been very hot.

We had quite a time enticing her back - had to wait for the fire to cool, put a think bit of wood on it so she could step down safety. Of course, she loved it there. Warm, quiet (no resident Abby to hassle her).

Oh - and we had a starling somehow get down the chimney too. Heard her bashing around and nearlt died of shock when we opened the door and she flew out in a cloud of ash and anger.

Sashohoho · 09/12/2022 10:29

What a delight to see all these gorgeous beasts. Love them all. I'll post one later of QM, certainly not the most photogenic cat my favourites are big.bulky dopey toms, who are white and black and picked up from the garden. This one was picked up from someone else's garden and is just as quirky as the rest.

You were talking about the old place. When I first joined it was a very funny place. I could just read the thread headers and they made me laugh. Now it's full of people who snipe at whoever and whatever. Snark. I ended up scrolling most of the time. Good luck to them.

This place has more to offer, off work at mo with throat infection, hence time to say hello.

Kucingsparkles · 09/12/2022 11:27

This morning I am greatly enjoying this thread about a village fair raffle prize.

I noticed that the old place became ever more dominated by a set who consistently attempted to narrow the range of acceptable opinion on more than just That Subject. The sneering hostility towards certain demographics that developed is also deeply unattractive.

BinkerTell · 09/12/2022 11:40

@IReallyLikeCrows I was going to ask about Louise - am happy to hear she's in fine fettle! When you didn't mention her on the other thread I didn't want to ask in case the worst had happened.

We have just had to order a heated pad for our cat as she has been very vocal about the cold and wouldn't be pacified until we put the heating on. She has ignored it so far but I am off sick so she's been using me as her main source of warmth.

angelico53 · 09/12/2022 11:43

I wanted to discuss the disgusting way angelica is being treated at work. Any ideas where I might join in or where to start a thread?

CyanCyan · 09/12/2022 11:45

Legal matters? www.mumsnet.com/talk/legal_matters

there’s also a Work board

kittykarate · 09/12/2022 11:57

There's also a 'work' forum www.mumsnet.com/talk/work , but I think legal matters might be a better fit. Though if you want a lot of eyes and opinions, AIBU or CHAT (though the legal advice may be lower quality)

Kucingsparkles · Today 11:27

This morning I am greatly enjoying this thread about a village fair raffle prize.

Me too!

murasaki · 09/12/2022 12:22

Likewise. Crikey it is cold today.I was in the office using their heating yesterday, but mine's now been on for 3 hours and I am still cold. I have to leave it on for a bit though as it is unreasonable to expect lovely cleaner to work on arctic conditions.

CyanCyan · 09/12/2022 12:48

Get yourself one of these @murasaki and you’ll never be cold within the vicinity of a plug socket again

Thanks, all.
