Gather here all ye refugees from the foundering ship of JTT, if ye be in need of "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

Or just to chat randomly.

I’m not sure who you all are but just wanted to say welcome.

Not Wellcome obvs.

@Britinme I'm seven hours behind. Lots to catch up on every morning.

There's a bunch of posters who have departed from another forum because Reasons (probably best not to go into it here). Many of us were already MNers (at least in a lurky sense) and so it seemed a no-brainer to just move over to MN completely rather than keep posting in both locations. And we have brought some newbies over with us.

Hello again everybody.

Do you know I'm quite surprised by just how many people did come over here - I know we did know there were lurkers, but still.

TheMostBeautifulDogInTheWorld · 28/11/2022 15:24

BetteGein · 28/11/2022 11:10

Hello. Moving to MN has made me realise how set in my ways I am. My m.o over there was suscribe to thread and lurk. I've managed to watch the original thread and tried to watch this one but it doesn't seem to work. I don't know if you have to post first. Anyway, I'll work it out but my poor brain cells don't like change.

Bette, by default Mumsnet sets you to "watching" a thread that you post on, yes. But you can also set it yourself by clicking "bookmark" on a post you read on a thread. (And "bookmark" is also useful for marking the latest post you've read on a thread, so that you go to new posts when you go into it another time via "I'm watching".

artant · 28/11/2022 15:24

As one of the lurkers, hello!

Tricyrtis2022 · 28/11/2022 15:39

Same here, it's a surprising number.

Is anyone staying at the other place as well? I'm not and know that others aren't either.

Tricyrtis2022 · 28/11/2022 15:39

Hello artant!

otraynor · 28/11/2022 15:50

Tri, I've been reading it still. It is hard to engage in threads that were never meant to be anything other than harmless fun, like the word association thread, after these events have occurred.

I agree. And the same goes for various support threads.

Tricyrtis2022 · 28/11/2022 16:01

It is hard to engage

Very much so, I'd have thought, otray. That was largely why I decided not to go back anymore, because the whole site, for me, is now tainted. After what happened I would never be able to see it in the same affectionate way.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 28/11/2022 16:02

I'm thick-skinned and bloody minded and still posting there. If that annoys people, tough. I was annoyed on Friday.

I have become very aware of how unpleasant a few people who just weren't on my radar before are.

Tricyrtis2022 · 28/11/2022 16:04

It doesn't annoy me, elderberry, I'm just curious.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 28/11/2022 16:11

Tricy, I was thinking of the annoyance of the beastly misogynists who thought they were safely rid of the mouthy women.

I respect the people who have come over, and have never been given a reason to think they are not open-minded flexible thinkers. Some of the macho men, however . . .

Dotellhimpike · 28/11/2022 16:13

I'm trying to tear myself away. Failing very badly at the minute but to their credit, about half the site is doing a fine job of showing me how unpleasant they are to be around.

BetteGein · 28/11/2022 16:21

Thank you for explaining ing, beautiful dog.

Britinme · 28/11/2022 16:21

Quite a number of posters never took an interest in feminist threads of any variety though. My husband posts on various political threads and doesn't browse the site generally, and was quite bewildered when I pointed him at JtS's thread where he posts about shutting the site down.

Tricyrtis2022 · 28/11/2022 16:29

elderberry, hopefully you're being a thorn in their collective side.

I'm quite good at tearing myself away, possibly as a result of learning young when at boarding school where I'd make friends, only for them to then disappear forever.

ThucydidesJTT · 28/11/2022 16:34

Hi All,

Will save my main comments on the other place for the other thread but wanted to say hi and say you've been treated terribly.

MissLawls · 28/11/2022 16:35

Hello! How lovely to have a chat thread.

Something really pissed me off about the threatened closure or if the closure goes ahead is that quite a few people use the SEN threads, care, recovering alcoholic and depression threads. There are posters whose mental health and recovery is really helped by some of the threads.

I know his gaff, his rules, but I do feel he has some responsibility towards those who needed the place and found a small online community suited their needs better than the larger ones. I thought threatening to shut it at such short notice wasn't just cruel. It was wicked. I asked him to give it at least three months to give people a chance to regroup or find other places. And also for people unaware it was closing. Some only post very sporadically.

Kucinghitam · 28/11/2022 16:41

To be fair, the site may not close down now that only Good People remain there? Or is it a done deal?

Oh and hello, I recognise your username!

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 28/11/2022 16:42

Agreed, Laws. As a minimum there should be some sort of pinned thread/post to all threads to make sure everyone is aware. People can do general chat anywhere if needed, but the care/cancer/depression/rehab/sen etc threads have been quite literally lifelines for people and they should have notice to gather their community and make altenative arrangements.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 28/11/2022 16:44

It might not. But given the continued revivals of the topic in all the site discussion threads, I'll be surprised if JtS considers the pitchfork wielding mob to have been sufficiently effective.
