Anyone else ill with a nasty cold/virus?

I feel so shit. I have an incredibly sore throat, pain killers hardly touch the pain. Hot and cold shivering, can’t get warm enough. Aches all over my body.

18mo DS is poorly too, just so sad and very warm.

Anyone else suffering too?

My DH had this before any of us and it’s taken him about 5 days to feel better though the sore throat still lingers. Hopefully it doesn’t take us too long either.

A week later we’re all back at work now, was wfh on Monday and back in the office yesterday and today. Very tried but feeling much better. Still a bit snotty with a slight cough.

My throat still hurts sometimes but overall so much better. I did have antibiotics for the throat as it go so so swollen and was beyond painful. Nothing pain killer wise would touch it.

Ugh, well ds's Covid turned out to be particularly nasty and has landed him in hospital for the last 3 nights...

How’s your DS doing? Is he back home tonight?

Thankyou pinkplant, he's come home now. Antibiotics, inhalers wheeze plan and a rapid return if his sats go down persistently...but he is a lot brighter and happier now home.

Has anyone had excess stomach acid with this virus? I've had the blocked nose and awful cough for about a week, I think it's headed to my chest, but the worst thing is the stomach pain from too much acid. I've only had this when I was pregnant, it's waking me up in the night with a gnawing sensation, like being hungry but amplified, and painful and antacids aren't helping. Of course doctor Google has me thinking that I have a gastric ulcer 😩. Have a telephone appointment with GP today but I wondered if anyone has had similar?

ThaiDye · 02/12/2022 10:06

@Aishah231 COVID does NOT make your immune system stronger. Definitely not. It damages your T cells which are essential to fighting infection and cancer. Catching COVID over and over is a bad idea and it makes you more susceptible to catching everything else too.

Please read this, it sets it all out in very simple language.

For everyone doing LFTs, please keep testing, not just on day 1 of symptoms, the positive increasingly takes a few days to show up. A negative result doesn't necessarily mean it's not COVID (also you can get COVID and flu, or flu and RSV, or other combos, it's not an either-or situation).

Also, swab your throat and a nostril. Best to do first thing in the morning before you eat or drink (otherwise wait at least 30 minutes before testing), swab the back of your tongue/tonsil area, then a nostril.

Yes I've been exactly the same! Sooo much acid that the coughing makes me vomit. Hungry but can't eat because it hurts my stomach.

dancingqueen123 · 02/12/2022 11:06

Yes my while household bar me has it! Currently hiding upstairs with all the windows open. The cough sounds horrendous. DH says he feels worse than when he had covid a month ago 😞

Re: the stomach acid, my little DS has been vomiting & his cough is horribly chesty 😷

😩 I hope you are better soon, and everyone else here with it. GP has prescribed omeprazole and antibiotics so fingers crossed. Negative covid tests so far, testing every day. I would like to know what it bloomin well is!

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 02/12/2022 12:06

Day 11 and I'm still slowly dying.

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 02/12/2022 12:26

Yes, something awful that doesn't seem to be Covid has knocked us all out this week. DD is robust and healthy and has never had respiratory issues before but ended up being blue-lighted to hospital with sats of 85. Thankfully she is recovering well after oxygen, nebulisers and a wheeze plan.

HazeyjaneIII · 02/12/2022 12:47

Re the stomach acid - that has been a real feature of this round of Covid for us. DH has had really bad acid, burning his throat and making him feel really sick and ds spent a day and a night vomiting with reflux.

nicky2512 · 02/12/2022 15:32

To echo @ThaiDye I had all the mentioned symptoms and some! Started Monday evening 21st and only tested positive on Monday 28th. Still testing positive today. This is my first covid infection and I don’t think I’ve ever felt so ill. Not just as bad now but my throat and chest are still so sore and my ears. Did not think it would take as long to show up on test though.

3 weeks tomorrow. Though I was finally on the mend but worse again yesterday. Tonsils aren't swollen and can't see any pus but feel ill again today. Docs only seeing emergencies this week. WFT do I do? I need to be able to work as I'm self employed 😔

I'm worse again too. Sinuses are so painful and I think it's causing the blinding headache I've got, plus toothache and earache. Loads of green snot and phlegm. Totally fed up. I've tried the econsult option at the doctors but not holding out much hope as they have texted all patients to say they're incredibly busy.

colouringindoors · 08/12/2022 13:46

urgh sympathies @PositiveLife Steaming helps a bit, as does constant dilute orange squash with honey in, but head is horrible...

Peach2021 · 08/12/2022 14:14

another symptom to add to the list if I may...severe conjunctivitis. like everyone else ive been ill for days and the only thing that seems to help is sleep, which is good because I don't have the energy to do anything else1!

Glowlamp · 08/12/2022 23:16

It’s 3 weeks on Sat since I lost my voice and my throat is still sore. I’m so fed up. I’m back to dry throat and it catches then I cough uncontrollably and my eyes stream. Ugh. Painkillers don’t seem to work. Talking is a such big part of my job and I don’t think I’m getting time to recover. I’m so grumpy, I’m rarely ill for this long!!

AnnieSnap · 08/12/2022 23:40

DH and I have been ill with Covid for 10-days (confirmed with LFTs). We are picking-up a bit now, but both had several days part way through if feeling really bad, sweating, freezing, unable to walk to the bathroom without holding on to furniture. I totally lost a couple of days, just can’t remember them at all. We both still feel weak, exhausted and are still coughing, sore throat etc.

Despite feeling sorry for ourselves, we’re acutely aware of how lucky we are to have just contracted it for the first time when we are safer from the worst excesses of it due to our vaccines, including our second boosters in September ‘22. We are both older and DH has diabetes.

AnnieSnap · 09/12/2022 00:00

Might be worth mentioning, the first LFT was negative. Tested again several days in and it was positive.

MotherOfPuffling · 09/12/2022 17:26

Grah. Started to recover from whatever the awful virus was then came down with an opportunistic bacterial chest and throat infection. Antibiotics and steroids for breathing issues. Hopefully this will all be better soon!

NeverTooLateToSing · 10/12/2022 19:33

We've got this. My teen son started with it a couple of weeks ago, and he became so ill with it that 111 sent us to A&E to check it wasn't meningitis (he had severe headache & stiff neck, along with coughing, temp, a night's vomiting, exhaustion, sore throat etc). They swabbed him, ran it through the system and said it was Influenza A, and promptly shifted us out out of the waiting room into a well-ventilated side room.

Since then, me and my husband have both developed it. It's evil, and we're still ill. And I had my flu-jab weeks ago so I am miffed it didn't stop this one! Covid tests keep coming up negative. I haven't felt this ill since I last had flu in 1999/2000!

What's odd about it is that it crept up on us, which is unlike flu, which normally hits you like a truck. So you get a few days of bad headache and sore throat and thinking you're about to get away with a cold, then Bam! You're down...

Chatterboxy · 10/12/2022 19:58

Sore throat for the last 3 weeks or so, head ache, hot & cold, snotty nose, generally feeling a bit shit! Just doesn’t feel like it’s shifting.

colouringindoors · 11/12/2022 11:24

24 hrs of Penicillin and feeling improved. If you've had this for more than 3 weeks, worth considering...
