Anyone else ill with a nasty cold/virus?

PinkPlantCase · 23/11/2022 21:42

I feel so shit. I have an incredibly sore throat, pain killers hardly touch the pain. Hot and cold shivering, can’t get warm enough. Aches all over my body.

18mo DS is poorly too, just so sad and very warm.

Anyone else suffering too?

My DH had this before any of us and it’s taken him about 5 days to feel better though the sore throat still lingers. Hopefully it doesn’t take us too long either.

I'm starting to feel much better today but DH is still feeling rough and has been off work since yesterday. I have various chronic illnesses so I'm usually hit much worse than he is when we get ill.

We've both had our flu jabs, although he got his a few weeks before I did, and I got my Covid booster at the same time so I don't know if there's something overlapping between this bug and either of those things that might mean the jabs have helped? No idea.

DD was off school for well over a week with it and she's very rarely ill.

RosettaStormer · 25/11/2022 05:24

I was reading somewhere that this might be Covid but a strain that doesn’t show up on tests. I never get colds and haven’t had flu in 15 years. I got this thing recently and was really unwell.

SophieJo · 25/11/2022 06:01

Started last Friday with a headache and sore throat so did a LFT- negaitive. Since then I have the most horrendous cough which I can’t shift and it’s worse at night. My chest aches so much.

Lots of it about sadly, I know people with the mystery bug, don't think it's covid as they have tested (although of course lateral flows don't always pick it up). As well as covid, there's flu, RSV etc doing the rounds. Covid is damaging our immune systems and means we can't fight other things off as well as previously. When you start going out again wear a mask (FFP2 or better will protect both you and others), even when you're recovered from this you will be prone to picking up other bugs for a while unfortunately. One of my friends had 3 bugs since the start of October, it's not good ☹️
We need HEPA filters in schools and nurseries as well to reduce the spread of viruses there too and staff to mask up if they have any cold symptoms. The little ones can't protect themselves.
In the meantime lots of rest, a decent vitamin pill and lots of fluids. Take the time to rest to reduce risk of post viral complications.
Hope you feel better soon 💐

How does COVID damage your immune system? If you've fought it off your immune system should be stronger. I've seen this phrase being used and am wondering where it's come from as it doesn't make any medical sense as far as I can tell.

Lost my voice nearly completely at the weekend. Just woke up with it & no warning. Symptoms escalated from there.
Sunday night temperature, dry dry sore throat and dry cough. It’s lasted all week, covid tested, off work and can’t sleep. Headaches tiredness and now sinus issues. Even my teeth hurt.
so fed up as rarely ill enough to miss work but my job means I talk all the time!
still voice is shot. Kids think I sound ‘horrifying’ 😆
GWS everyone!

SouperNoodle · 25/11/2022 07:15

I've been the same for a week or so but the other day it got 10 times worse so I tested and had a blazing positive

wewishyouamerrychristmas · 25/11/2022 07:15

DH has been unwell for 3 weeks now and had 4 days off work last week. He just can’t shift a heavy chesty cough and generally feeling rubbish. Not Covid.

SandysMam · 25/11/2022 07:18

DH and I both had this last week, exactly the same thing at exactly the same time. He tested positive for Covid, I tested negative but the illness was the same I’m certain.

PinkPlantCase · 25/11/2022 07:26

I think I’m going to try and get into the GP today, my throat had got so much worse, TMI by my Uvula (the dangly thing) has got so swollen that I can feel it all the time on my tongue. If I lye on my back it makes me gag. Very very painful to swallow.

I’ve had a lot of sore throats in my time (hence the tonsillectomy) but I’ve never had issues like this with my Uvula. It’s so horrible.

I'm hanging out my backside with whatever this is. Stuffed right up, headache, sore throat and aching all over.

Tested negative for covid so far. Cancelling a hospital appointment for today, as there is no way I can go there like this.

Withnoshoes · 25/11/2022 07:32

Some of the people here sound like they had actual Flu. It’s rife at the minute and seems to be really wiping people out I work on a ward and loads of flu! . Also RSV season too. Covid is still lurking too. Other viruses are available.

TheMildManneredMilitant · 25/11/2022 07:36

I'm starting to feel like this. DD has had scarlet fever she's just coming out of and DS had a throat cough thing before that. Strep A causes scarlet fever as well as tonsillitis and other infections so may all be linked.

JosephFrancis · 25/11/2022 07:39

Yes. Had this for about a week and a half, dosed self up with industrial strength cold and flu meds and went to work because we were so short staffed. Shouldn't have done that, gave my body no time or rest to fight the thing off and it has now morphed into a hideous chest and throat infection. Have antibiotics, a cough that brings up handfuls of thick green slime and ribs that feel broken with every cough 😭

Same timescale here. Tight chest and endless cough are the only remaining symptom. Have you found anything that helps?

Furries · 26/11/2022 00:40

Was recently chatting to my friend in Australia and he was saying how bad flu was there. Friends/neighbours of his have all said it was the worst they’ve ever felt.

HelpMeGetThrough · 26/11/2022 11:02

I'm worse this morning. My mum text me yesterday to say she'd read in the paper that a pretty bad Flu is going around, landing people in hospital.

I got close to calling 111 early this morning, as I was having chest pains, but they eased. OH wasn't happy and said I should have woke her up. I'm under strict instruction that 111 will be called if it happens again.

nicky2512 · 26/11/2022 11:11

I could have written @Glowlamp s post.
My voice sounds awful, my throat is raw, ears are so sore, sore chest and was up through night with a nosebleed.
My teeth are agony and my face feels swollen. Mucus is now v green and bloody so wondering if I need an antibiotic but don’t really have energy to do anything about it. Ds has it too so going to steam him. We are suffering together.

Just said to my mum I can’t believe how careful I have been for two years trying to avoid covid and then to get this which has to be worse.

Glowlamp · 26/11/2022 11:36

@nicky2512 I feel for you, that sounds awful. Your poor DS. My family have escaped it but they are teenagers and favour their bedrooms!

I’ve been in the spare room as can’t sleep beyond 4:30am.

I now have horrid coloured & bloody mucus (tmi) and a headache from hell.

No let up in sore throat yet, but feel it’s moving to chest a bit, not as raw.

That’s 7 days now. Fed up!

colouringindoors · 26/11/2022 12:22

10 days in here. Throat still sore though not as bad. Horrible headache. Sinuses full of bright green gunk. Cough. Seriously fed up with this.

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 26/11/2022 12:27

Yep it's rampaging here too. DH was poorly for about 5 days last week but started to peel up by Monday.

Then I started Tuesday, coughing up mucus for a deep chesty cough that makes me gip and then throw up, can't eat, can't keep anything down, bunged up, sore throat, headache, aching everywhere. Am covid negative as was he.

DD (13) started Thursday with sore throat and headache...

Gatekeeper · 26/11/2022 12:39

me and dh have both been ill for a week. Horrendous headache, fever, cold shivers, nausea, aches and pains and dreadful cough. No sore throats though but the fatigue is something else. I'm really weepy as well and feel crushing melancholy. Weird

nicky2512 · 26/11/2022 12:51

@Glowlamp Same here with the unbelievably green gunk and headache. Ds and I are proudly comparing!!

Strange thing is that my daughter who’s currently living in Spain has something very similar. She started way before us and has needed antibiotics but still has the hacking cough and blocked feeling in her ears.

We are both blaming her for giving it to us!!!Don’t know how that works on WhatsApp video call but we are blaming her anyway!

Teadrinkingmumofone · 26/11/2022 12:54

Yes, been ill since the start of October with viral illnesses, including viral meningitis which hospitalised me for 8 days I was so bad. Just cannot shift it!

I feel exactly like this. I had a horrendous cold last Sunday just for a day but seriously not right still. I was in tears trying to do Xmas shopping yesterday. My whole body hurts, I have no energy. Strange headaches like neuralgia. Sudden feverish ness out of nowhere then feeling freezing cold. It’s very like Covid but not Covid.

Whydidimarryhim · 26/11/2022 17:49

Felt rough for a week - glands up - sore throat - sucking on Halls Mentholiptus which helps - doesn’t usually last this long.
