Anyone else ill with a nasty cold/virus?

I feel so shit. I have an incredibly sore throat, pain killers hardly touch the pain. Hot and cold shivering, can’t get warm enough. Aches all over my body.

18mo DS is poorly too, just so sad and very warm.

Anyone else suffering too?

My DH had this before any of us and it’s taken him about 5 days to feel better though the sore throat still lingers. Hopefully it doesn’t take us too long either.

9 days in for me. Started with a headache and sore throat, both have continued. My throat has felt really restricted and swollen. I had 2 days of a high temperature then a weird low blood pressure/cold sweat thing. I've completely lost my mojo and cba to do anything!

Does anyone think it’s this years flu? I didn’t have the flu jab.

@Upyouranty sorry to hear it’s messed up your post chemo plans 🙁 must be so frustrating for you. All the best for your treatment

No, i don’t think it’s flu. Last time I had flu I did 10 days in HDU. This is nothing compared to that. It’s horrible, but it’s not flu.

BobaTea · 24/11/2022 08:24

I'm having similar symptoms. Those that have a sore throat, what are you taking to relief it? No one on antibiotics?

If you can get out of bed it's not the flu.

I had this sort of virus at the end of October, felt horrific and spent a week in bed. Couldnt even open my eyes as they were agony so was just lying in bed listening to the TV. Luckily my kids are old enough to look after themselves, I just had to remind them to go to bed.

It's taken me a month to start to feel even vaguely well again, only to now come down with shingles.

But the virus, I would say it was about day 9 or 10 when I felt well enough to work (luckily I was on leave before then) but still had the aches, pains and shivers. The sore throat and eyes had gone though.

HugHeart · 24/11/2022 08:37

I've a delayed prescription in case it's bacterial tonsillitis but for the moment it appears to be viral.

Co codamol and ibuprofen. Warm orange squash (sugar not sweetener) with large teaspoon honey dissolved in it. I find warm drinks more soothing than cold.

BobaTea · 24/11/2022 08:52

@HugHeart , how can you tell?

OllytheCollie · 24/11/2022 08:58

We have all had some weird shit that passes through us one symptom at a time - severe fatigue, muscle soreness, chest pain, tummy upset, cough. Takes about 7-10 days to get better. My middle child is still in the middle of it. I would swear we had covid which we've all had before more than once but we've tested religiously, it would be amazing if we missed one true +ve. So it's another virus that behaves very like covid. Joy.

HugHeart · 24/11/2022 08:58

BobaTea my GP said I just had a slightly raised temp and throat not sore enough. I felt rubbish and had white spots on my tonsils.

He did a scoring test based on symptoms over the phone and it gave a 30-40 % chance of needing antibiotics hence delayed prescription.

If throat is very sore and you have high temp, white spots on tonsils and feel nauseous/not well it might be bacterial infection. Check with your GP as I'm not medical.

Hope you feel better soon

PinkPlantCase · 24/11/2022 09:49

DH popped out for some throat numbing spray and that’s helped a bit.

I don’t have any white stuff in my throat so didn't think it was worth calling the GP for

@HugHeart , no temp and no white spots. Looks a a common cold then. Feeling a lot better this morning. Hope you get well soon.

HugHeart · 24/11/2022 10:31

Thanks Boba.

You can have viral tonsillitis with no white spots. You can always phone a pharmacist for advice - they know all about what's circulating right now.

One piece of advice the GP gave was to keep well hydrated with water.

HugHeart · 24/11/2022 10:32

Glad you are feeling a little better this morning Boba 💐

lilroo87 · 24/11/2022 10:41

Yes, mine started about a week ago but seems to be progressing through each phase pretty fast.
Couple of days of sore throat then couple of days of aching/shivering, couple of days of a horrendous cough and couple of days of really bad blocked nose.
Now I'm just left with a bit of a blocked nose. My DP had the same but was a couple of days ahead of me.
Our DD seemed to have a cough and runny nose before either of us.
So weird but I'm 30 weeks pregnant so I'm glad it's going by quite fast.
It's the first illness I've had in years

Upyouranty · 24/11/2022 10:59

@PinkPlantCase Thank you! Sick of being ill.

MotherOfPuffling · 24/11/2022 11:02

This struck here too, miserable. I felt a bit ill Thursday, then Friday and the weekend I couldn’t even get out of bed. I seem to be two days behind DD, who brought it home from school after someone sent their child back way too soon and infected the entire class. I understand that people get desperate, but that girl was clearly sick and should not have been in school, grrr! DD is back after a week off sick and missing two birthday parties, which made her so upset, and me too as she’s had such a tough year and was really looking forward to a lovely weekend with friends. Ah well. I have found difflam throat spray helped us both with the dreadful sore throat, also the boots honey and lemon analgesic lozenges. Warm drinks, nurofen, lemsip. Between it all it made it just about bearable. Still got the cough but it’s less thank goodness, and helping to shift the tightness of the chest at least (it’s a really chesty cough). Praying the sinus symptoms don’t hit here, but judging by how I feel today I’m not sure will be that lucky!

Witch2 · 24/11/2022 11:05

Can anyone describe the sore throat pain? I haven't lost my voice which is unusual for me when I get a sore throat. But it has felt tight and restricted, trouble swallowing food and having to clear my throat a lot. No matter how much I drink it feels dry.

It feels a bit better today but I've got a headache and was really bunged up when I first woke this morning.

pinkpeoniesmakemesmile · 24/11/2022 11:20

I've had it for 5 weeks now, and today I've ended to in hospital.

I had to keep going and couldn't rest and it's really got me now.

Please do rest up and look after yourself.

I put everyone else first and it hasn't turned out great for me now!

Get better soon

Sparkletastic · 24/11/2022 11:23

I've had it for 2 weeks now. Not flu or Covid as I've been vaccinated for both and testing negative on lateral flows. Painful throat, catarrh, headaches and coughing. I work in NHS and on most calls there are multiple reports of RSV affecting adults badly and Strep A circulating.

PinkPlantCase · 24/11/2022 11:30

Thankfully DS doesn’t seems too poorly today. Seems to be doing better than I am.

He doesn’t have a temperature anymore and seems fairly alright in himself.

My DD aged 14 months has been really ill, temp was 39, rash all over her body, full of cold, cough, sick, not eating etc. Took her to A&E the other night, she has something called Coxsackie Virus. Me and DP are ill now as well, both feel horrific.

bigfamilygrowingupfast · 24/11/2022 12:14

Yes feel dreadful. Started with sore throat at weekend so had an easy day on Sunday watching tv in bed hoping I'd be better by Monday and it's hit me like a tonne of bricks! Felt horrendous ever since. Nearly everyone I know has it.

Yes, this is our experience too. I thought it was one virus after another, but reading this I'm not so sure. Started with muscle aches and terrible headache, progressed into a cough. A week later, relentless sneezing started which lead to bad congestion. This was just improving, then a day of vomiting. Then the cough and congestion got worse again.

I haven't been ill like this for over 10 years. I don't normally catch the kids' bugs, but this has been exhausting. I've had covid twice, and it was just like a mild cold. This has been more unpleasant, whatever thing, or mixture of things, it is!

Somethingsnappy · 24/11/2022 12:38

Lots of the usual misinformation about flu here. You can have mild flu, as well as the 'can't get out of bed' type, just as you can have a mild cold, or one that floors you completely.

Janedoe82 · 24/11/2022 12:55

Have this- feel horrendous. Worse than covid
