How long were you and DH together before engagement and then marriage

Feeling sorry for myself and want to see how our situation measure up to others.

Um about thirty years before engagement, then married one or two months later. It's been eight years since then. All still good.

But neither of us were making any big sacrifices for the other, neither of us wanted kids, neither of us had particularly romantic views on marriage. We did it for financial reasons in the end.

If I had a friend who wanted kids / was considering giving up something big to support their other half / was very religious etc, I wouldn't expect or advise them to follow my own example!

Together 5 years, engagement and marriage 10 months. Married 12.

Together for 10 years, engaged just over a year and celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary next week.

1 year and 7 months to engagement and married 9 months after that. We were early to mid twenties.

Five years to engagement. Ten months to marriage. Moved in together three days after marriage.

Met at school, dated 16 onwards, engaged at 21, married at 23 in 1979. Had DS after 14 years. Still very happily married.

3 months to engagement, then married 5 months after that

The age of the couple is a big factor.

We were together 5 years before we got engaged, another 2 years before we got married and then had first DC the following year. However we got together when I was 19 and although we were committed to each other and very much in love, we just weren't thinking of marriage and babies early on. If I'd been 35 there's no way I'd have waited so long.

Met at 19, lived together at 20, engaged at 21, married at 23.

Started dating mid August, got engaged that Christmas, bought our first house following August, got married early September.
That was 27 years ago.

Met in early August, engaged following January, married late August of that year. I remember thinking on our wedding morning "This time last year, I didn't know him! "

Friends for 4 years, a couple for 6.5 years, getting married March 2024 (21 months after engagement)

We met October 2018
Moved in January 2019
Engaged July 2019
Married October 2021 (delayed 6 months due to COVID)
Started TTC in August 2022.

By contrast a friend (religious background, wanted kids) got engaged after two weeks and married within a year or two, BUT they had known each other very well as friends for yonks before they started dating.

Met aged 19. Dated aged 20. Moved in together aged 25. Engaged aged 28. Married aged 29. Have been married 22 years.

Met in July 85 , engaged Feb 89 , married June 89 - still very happy .

Together for 18 months before we got engaged.
Engaged for 10 years before we got married.

11 years before engagement, 1 year engaged and married 17 years.

Together 7 years until engagement and 1 year until marriage.

21 years and still not engaged or married! Two kids.

Three years to engagement then one more until married. Age 27-31 for both of us

Together 17 years not engaged, not married.
I would like to marry/CP for security but I'm happy with signing the paperwork and he wants A Wedding which I will not plan so stalemate. Neither of us is particularly bothered though.

Between us we have four siblings, all married, all now divorced or separated so feel we're on to a good thing!

Engaged after 1 year.
Married after 2 years.
We were 28/29

We didn’t really get engaged. But we were together for 22 years before getting married, including four years of dating before moving in together.

Together one year, got engaged. Got married the following year, so two years from meeting to getting married. Married nearly 12 years now.
