Elon Musk is a horrible human

He just makes me cringe. He buys twitter after changing his mind backwards and forwards, promptly sacks half the staff, and then tells the rest they have to be in the office for at least 40 hours a week, despite them having been told previously they could wfh forever if they want.
He's a psychopath, right?

Why should he
He is not responsible for every other person on the planet
Surely parents are the people who are responsible for their own kids
As for the starving maybe their families who have no jobs but have 10 kids should think about how they are going to support kids before having them
We did
If you care so much give all your money away to Iran or Africa

That's the thing though isn't it? He wouldn't have to give it all away to make a huge change. He could still be a very rich man. As for the why should he? Well because it is the right thing to do. If you have the power to make a huge change in the world for the better then I think you have the moral responsibility to do that. What type of person wouldn't want to do that when it would have no effect on him whatsoever but could have a dramatic effect on the lives of many?

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 10/11/2022 18:40

As for Musk, I had no opinion of him until the whole Thai cave debacle

Calling person a pedo, tweet about Russia/Ukraine, Paul Pelosi etc., sounds like a person who fell into the rabbit hole to me.

This whole world seems to be in chaos and it's not just him, imo.

Justanotherlurker · 10/11/2022 18:42

They were approaching employees to come back yesterday, having figured out just how much they were needed.

'Sources' say they was wich was re-reported in other papers, but as of yet there is no-rehires or confirmed proof

If they are technical enough they will have no problem finding a job back at twitter, those that have been on the first line of layoffs are not techinical (same as Meta et al)

He cut unnecessary costs. He's a businessman

Badbadbunny · 10/11/2022 18:53

You can't keep unnecessary staff on the books just to be "nice".

Lots of businesses have gone under simply because they didn't make these difficult decisions until too late.

RJnomore1 · 10/11/2022 18:55

He’s a complete arsehole and as for having a business mind, hilarious. As much of one as that other arsehole trump.

SwedishEdith · 10/11/2022 18:55

All the "Twitter is a cesspit" stuff completely depends on who you follow. Follow genuine experts in their fields and their non-dickhead followers, adjust your settings to filter out the unverified accounts and block and report any offensive accounts. Do all of that and then it's genuinely one of the best sources of fast news and information available.

QuebecBagnet · 10/11/2022 18:56

I agree that wfh info changed for a lot of people. I was told wfh for ever and spent 7k building a garden office as had no space. Now told to come in and work. I have an expensive shed now.

SwedishEdith · 10/11/2022 18:56

And block Musk.

Ha. I do look at it occasionally for up to date local news, and my kids school post updates on it. I get it has it’s uses, I do. It’s still a murky pit of fake news and malice, though. Wouldn’t miss it if it went.

Such a psychopath that he was the only one helping Ukraine with his Starlink satellite off his own back and at a personal financial cost. Psychopath is a strong word to use for someone on the autism spectrum and not very helpful to others who have the same diagnosis and already suffer because they feel like they don't fit in.

So no one with autism/ASD can be criticised for poor behaviour now?

What if someone is has sociopathic personality disorder and they are also on the spectrum, is one allowed to talk about that?

bellac11 · 10/11/2022 19:04

RafaistheKingofClay · 10/11/2022 18:07

I’m not sure buying Twitter for the price he did and then chasing off the advertisers is going to turn out to be particularly astute.

I dont really understand how twitter makes money, I never see any adverts

SwedishEdith · 10/11/2022 19:05

I'd miss it enormously. I don't really see the fake news too much, more the screenshots of it and then the dissection of it.

Tinner01 · 10/11/2022 19:07

As someone on the spectrum I am disgusted by those excusing his behaviour because of a possible diagnosis. He is an awful man.

I see ads/promoted tweets on my phone (not loads) but use an ad blocker on my laptop so don't see any then.

Watchthesunrise · 10/11/2022 19:08

I admire his respect for artists and his contribution (incredible) to the technologies that are changing the future.

I really wanted him to stay with Grimes; she's one of the most incredible artists of our time and I think deep down they are probably soulmates. However I think he has trouble sustaining relationships due to his asperger's (she may be on the spectrum too, seems likely).

I hope his children grow up able to forgive his weaknesses.

Tinner01 · 10/11/2022 19:08

@bellac11 exactly, that kind of confusion is what leads to people like the parkland shooter being excused from their behaviour! Autism and neurodivergency does not lead to psychopathy!

Watchthesunrise · 10/11/2022 19:09

Twitter, I think he offered to buy it as a joke or as some sort of personal revenge and then it took on a life of its own. The business is a dog; it'll lose him a fortune.

Bakingdiva · 10/11/2022 19:11

Having worked for Tesla - yep - he's a knob!

onlythreenow · 10/11/2022 19:16

I don't particularly warm to the man, but no he's not a 'psychopath', he is a business man. He will have investigated the business and how it was being run beforehand, and he is not the only person in social media laying people off. As for insisting people return to the office to work, what is wrong with that? He is entitled to ask people to work wherever he wants them to, as is any business owner or boss.

Justanotherlurker · 10/11/2022 19:19

Having worked for Tesla - yep - he's a knob!

I can play this anecotal, I and my team have worked with him directly and he isn't a knob!

Wonnle · 10/11/2022 19:20

The media lap him up don't they for some reason , all that free publicity .

Two words some him up for me BELL END

User135644 · 10/11/2022 19:21

londongals · 10/11/2022 14:06

No he is a business man
He has the right to tell employees that they work in the office
All buy outs are subject to posturing

Any businessman who demands all their staff in the office (if they can WFH effectively) is an idiot and will just lose good staff. That's not good practice.

A hybrid model, fair enough.

You might want to check your facts. I'm fairly sure Elon Musk was a founder of PayPal.

Wonnle · 10/11/2022 19:21

Just remember he owns a controlling stake in Twitter not all of it
