Elon Musk is a horrible human

He just makes me cringe. He buys twitter after changing his mind backwards and forwards, promptly sacks half the staff, and then tells the rest they have to be in the office for at least 40 hours a week, despite them having been told previously they could wfh forever if they want.
He's a psychopath, right?

He’s a complete arsehole and as for having a business mind, hilarious. As much of one as that other arsehole trump.

Is that the Trump who's "wealth" comes from daddy and who is also a serial bankrupt ?

Beanbagtrap · 10/11/2022 19:25

You need to watch silicon valley

sagalooshoe · 10/11/2022 19:26

Yes he was the founder of paypal. He's a driver of change, he doesn't quit. Tesla could save the planet. Did you see those two rockets he eventually landed. I'm in awe actually. I hope he razes twitter to the ground it's so toxic. Go Elon!

the 40 hours in the office thing is fair enough EXCEPT they were apparently told they could wfh forever if they wanted.

Being told something doesn't make it set in stone. Anyway, who told them they could wfh forever? If it wasn't him then he is not bound by it in any way. The whole wfh thing is just ridiculous anyway, and it is the last thing I would ever want to do. People are so entitled these days, time to realise the world doesn't revolve around them. If you are employed by someone then you do as they ask, within reason before people start piling in with examples of bad employers. If you don't like it, then find another job.

It's the job market. Force skilled workers who can WFH effectively back to the office full time and they'll just take their labour elsewhere.

It's not the way to run a company in 2022.

TheWurst · 10/11/2022 19:31

Elon Musk didn’t start PayPal, he started a company who merged with PayPal. He also didn’t start Tesla, he bought it. He isn’t some eccentric genius inventor. He is an aggressive businessmen.

PoundShopPrincess · 10/11/2022 19:37

It's really odd that people feel so emotionally invested in a billionaire business owner that they don't know at all.
All of these threads about Musk and Twitter from posters who never comment on any of the other exploitative companies, are just bizarre, especially since they always come from a place of not knowing anything about redundancies or layoffs or competitive markets.
The fact is that big businesses will do whatever they can get away with. If that's a suddenly upsetting revelation for you, then write to your MP and ask them to do more about worker's rights, monopolies and social media.
Musk is no more or less horrible than the Murdochs, Bezos, Zuckerberg, etc.

sagalooshoe · 10/11/2022 19:38

He sees a good idea that could help the world and he finances, develops it and steers it. That's business, that's entrepreneurship, that's world's better than just 'an aggressive businessman'.

SwedishEdith · 10/11/2022 19:41

I don't know why so many people are saying he's definitely not a psychopath. It's pretty well documented that a significant percentage of CEOs have psychopathic tendendancies.

TimeForMeToF1y · 10/11/2022 17:22

I hope it's not your intention but that makes your friend sound like someone totally shallow and easily bought

Pray tell? She wasn’t anyone particularly special on the team, so my understanding was that most people on the project were given one.
jealousy is a rather unattractive trait.

I’m not quite sure why you think he is some sort of saviour, he’s goal is to make money. He has yet to “help the world” in any way I can see.

MarshaBradyo · 10/11/2022 19:48

I don’t think so. I don’t follow him on SM anywhere so no strong feelings either way. But apparently it’s making a big loss so he’s just acting on that.

It did remind me of Succession though

sagalooshoe · 10/11/2022 19:53

I don't care what he is - he's making amazing things happen . . .

Justanotherlurker · 10/11/2022 19:53

It's the job market. Force skilled workers who can WFH effectively back to the office full time and they'll just take their labour elsewhere.

And funnily enough, it isn't the skilled workers who are leaving or being let go...

TheWurst · 10/11/2022 20:01

I do find it interesting the likes of Musk and Jobs who do/did very very little for charitable causes are seen as incredible visionaries who are changing the world. But the likes of Bill Gates, George Soros and Warren Buffet, who are giving away money as fast as they can make it to try and eradicate disease and poverty are the focus of conspiracy theories 🧐

Honestly, I’d rather he focussed his billions on our own planet first.

Did anyone said he's definitely not a psychopath? Having a tendencies and someone who aren't qualified to diagnose to call a person is the one is totally different thing imo.
Tbh, I just hate all these name calling. It's just horrible.

He is freely giving satellite communications support to Ukraine at a cost of 100's of millions of pound.

Look up the Musk Foundation.

He does more than most billionaires.

Pandor · 10/11/2022 20:08

He comes across as as a monumental thundercunt. Promoting conspiracy theories about the awful attack on Nancy Pelosi’s husband. Accusing someone of being a paedophile for no reason other than spite. Walking into Twitter carrying a sink and a shit eating grin. For fucks sake.

Leaders do often have to take tough decisions but you can show your humanity by how you communicate and implement those decisions. He acts with the total lack of care that comes with knowing that his money and his staff will protect him and clean up the puddles of shit he leaves in his wake.

twat.

My friend worked with him on the SpaceX project in California. When she left she was given a new Tesla. I don’t think she thought he was a psychopath 🤷‍♀️

Ah. How generous of the billionaire. You must realise that it's a drop in the ocean for him and doesn't make him a good guy, right??

CloudybutMild · 10/11/2022 20:11

MollieMarie · 10/11/2022 14:13

I don't understand why he wants to bring back the era of fake news by charging money for verified ticks and letting people spread misinformation under the guise of 'free speech'.

How is that going to encourage “fake news”? A blue tick just means that your ID is verified, not that what you post is true.

Donald Trump had a blue tick…

Lil50 · 10/11/2022 20:12

Discover a lesson in life that people who make a lot of money are often not particularly nice people

He doesn't though. In 2020 for example he gave 23million. The worlds richest man giving 23million? His yacht cost more than that.

CloudybutMild · 10/11/2022 20:13

Pleasepleasepleaseno · 10/11/2022 15:16

I mean maybe they were useless. I just can't imagine taking over a company and sacking half the workforce IMMEDIATELY. Surely you'd take a while to see how things work, who does what, who's needed where? From an outside perspective it seems like he hasn't even registered these are actual people with lives.

Maybe that’s why you don’t run a successful business then.

Or maybe you do?

SirenSays · 10/11/2022 20:15

He promised space x wouldn't impact locals. People were being told to evacuate their homes in the middle of the night or stay at their own risk because of his launches. He's a dishonest man with money and power.
