Elon Musk is a horrible human

He just makes me cringe. He buys twitter after changing his mind backwards and forwards, promptly sacks half the staff, and then tells the rest they have to be in the office for at least 40 hours a week, despite them having been told previously they could wfh forever if they want.
He's a psychopath, right?

@JessicaTooManyRabbits - I am not a sociologist… that’s another poster.

Melonapplepear · 11/11/2022 17:17

I haven't once said my work and research is amazing and vital 🤣🤣 So no idea why several posters are trying to imply that. People like Elon Musk operate on an exploitative system, in the rich and powerful control everything at the detriment of the rest of society. Wether you want to accept that is of no odds to me, but I don't really understand the need to get defensive, like he's a personal friend. I can't imagine Elon Musk being a regular on Mumsnet, he isn't going to pick you. Chill out.

Softplayhooray · 11/11/2022 17:37

Wherever there is a cult of personality a complete disaster usually follows, but there will be an army of fans by that time, who will get nasty at anyone that criticises the personality in question. You just have to look at the mocking lefties comments, defensiveness, personal insults and so on on this thread to see that.

I couldn't stand Elon Musk after his pedophile comments about the hero rescuer in the caves, comments he made because he was clearly jealous of the guy. He also made a really stupid call buying Twitter at the top of the market and has no expertise in the field, and it's causing a complete mess, and hurting a lot of people. This'll likely be the end of Twitter and it's no mean feat to completely destroy such a phenomenally successful platform by little more than ego and incompetence.

Elon Musk is a perfect example of the Dunning-Kruger effect. that is, people who are BAD at something also don't have the insight to realise that they are bad at it and think they are great.

he was pretty good at running an engineering company - building cars & rockets and whatever. He thinks that makes him good at everything.

twitter is essentially an advertising company (it only makes money from ads) and a social media. those domains are VERY different to cars & rockets.

Elon charges in thinking he knows everything and rapidly finds that he has broken stuff before he even knew what he was dealing with.

The content creators are all moving to Mastodon, and without them, twitter is not worth anything.

Isn't this a feature of tech giants , they grow super fast , plateau for a bit while appearing to be indispensable. Then someone buys them. Someone who doesn't know - or care - about the business.

Then : pop! Like Bebo or Friends Reunited? There's others I'm.sure...

I don't think it would be at all a bad thing if Twitter became defunct. What might replace it is concerning though.

His latest thing is, some people can't work from home so it's morally wrong anyone should.

I can't believe how STUPID that is.

By that logic, since most people don't have a CEO's salary, nobody should.

All Musk really wants is to control his employees, practically own them. In the same interview he praised Chinese factories where workers were still labouring at 3am.

Musk says 'laptop class' should stop 'the work-from-home' BS

Musk argued that professional workers were being unfair in asking to work-from-home while factory and service workers still had to work in-person.

Workers these days have gotten used to basically not working... if they can't work from home, they're not interested. We've even had lab technicians asking whether they can work from home... NO, how are you meant to organise a lab from home?! Elon is simply bringing back the status quo, and this lazy generation are getting pissy about it.

NotTerfNorCis · 21/05/2023 09:06

For many jobs, working from home doesn't mean not working. In fact, it can make people more productive. No distracting noise, no gossiping co workers, and no time-consuming commute. Companies can easily measure performance and productivity without standing over employees. I work in software and although I enjoy trips to the office, it's clear to me that it doesn't facilitate productivity and often has the opposite effect. The majority of my co workers felt that strongly, too.

This idea that working from home means not working is reactionary crap usually spread by the right wing press. Often the real reasoning behind it is property - fear of losing profits from renting office space.

NotTerfNorCis · 21/05/2023 09:09

Incidentally the status quo is not always a good thing! If we stuck to that, we'd never have had any reforms that improved workers' lives.

@C1N1C what utter nonsense. Most jobs in modern economies do not require a physical presence, and there are huge benefits both to individuals and society in working from home more - more rested, happier people tend to be more productive. Also the amount of additional time people get to spend with their kids is on aggregate going to be a good thing.

Sure, there are some jobs where you’ll almost always needs to be physically present - lab tech is one, though I bet there’s an awful lot of theory and prep they could do from home. There’s a lot of pointless presenteeism in every field, and we’d all be a lot happier if we just accepted those days are over.

Love how the Musk cultists like this poster call him ‘Elon’ as though they know him personally. He doesn’t give a shit about you, you’re an amoeba in his mind.

Well women wouldn't have a vote for a start And no one would give a shit about the conditions of slaves anyway.

What an odd thing to nitpick. What would you have people say? Mr Musk? Elon Musk? Satan?

If this were Madonna, would you be getting pissy too? Oh no, someone called him Arnie because Mr Schwarzenegger is too long and cumbersome! [Facepalm]
